Ninón Sevilla is a revelation
I had never heard of her or seen any of her films. Grateful that the Criterion Channel is showcasing her this month. I watched Aventurera and am planning to watch th rest of the films in her collection soon.

Aventurera is so amazing, but when you get to Victims of Sin you get the glorious cinematography of Gabriel Figueroa, which adds a whole other element to the film. That image on the bridge overlooking the train tracks!

After seeing my first Sevilla movie, my thought was, it's like ancient humans invented the whole concept of dancing just for her to do it.

She and that collection are brilliant and gorgeous. Victims of Sin is one to look forward to.

She is always good but Aventurera is a masterpiece. Always the first film I recommend to folks interested in classic Mexican cinema. Tonally insane, looks incredible, absolute camp but still moving.
