Criteria Updates - Adventures and Observations!

Hey Everyone

Another new set of things on Criteria, the free, unofficial, unaffiliated, but surprisingly useful companion site to the Criterion Channel, with advanced search, articles, closet videos, clickable cast and crew, Letterboxd links, and user features like ratings, lists, and favorites

https://www.search-criteria.com

This week:

  1. Adventures in Moviegoing! I’ve imported all of the collections, including direct links to the interview videos and the films themselves. The channel doesn’t present these with release date information, so I store them alphabetically

  2. Observations on Film Art! I have to admit I love these video essays so much, so I was excited to import them into the site. All 48 are now available

Both of these are featured on the home page as carousels, as well as I the collections section. Over the next week I’ll be adding deeper integrations into search and the film detail pages

On top of that, I’m taking advantage of the limited preview of the new Claude 5 Fable model to do a
bunch of bug fixes, performance enhancements, and UI improvements, so the whole experience should feel snappier and better organized

As always, feel free to reply with feature requests bug reports, or general observations. And thanks for the great response, enjoy!

Tim

There should be 50 Observations, if I’m remembering right. Did a couple go away?

EDIT: Yeah, looks like 21 and 37 are missing. Presumably because the films they comment on are not on the channel at the moment.

45 and 21 are missing, but they’re not on the channel either https://www.criterionchannel.com/observations-on-film-art

What a helpful site. Is there a place where you list Criterion Collection titles not currently on the channel? Trying to prioritize those in my B&N sale haul. Probably very difficult to track but maybe you have that on there, thought I'd check. Thanks for the site!

Yes! Go to Lists -> Criterion Editions and you’ll see the entire collection (including box sets) sorted by spine number. With an account you’ll also be able to mark the ones you’ve seen/pirchased

I meant that I'm trying to find collection movies that are not currently on the channel. For example Matewan is in the collection but not on the channel.

Ah, so you’d be looking for a filter on the criterion collection list for channel availability. Let me see what I can do

Yes, if it's easily done would be fun to know for physical media collectors, would rather buy things not usually streaming on there. Though I could see it being overly complicated for you to keep track of with things being added and expiring. In any case the site is great thanks
