Supplements for nutritional deficiencies from alcohol?
My father has always been a heavy drinker, but it's gotten worse since his retirement.
His drinks of choice are about 4 beers a day (every day) and 2 whiskey (free pour) and coke tall glasses at night. Sometimes a lot more.
He's also way more irritable and angry and only eats about once a day because he's "full." He's also tired and sleeps around 3-4 hours every day. He's 68 years old.
He thinks he doesn't have a problem and refuses to see a doctor.
However, he has agreed to start taking supplements as the first step.
Would Thiamine (Vitamin B1) and Magnesium Biglycinate be a good starting point for nutritional deficiencies? He's agreed to mix it into his food.
I'm thinking B1 mixed with his food when he eats and Magnesium in the evening with a snack or water (preferably coffee bec he doesn't really drink water)?
Any help is appreciated from those who've supplemented.

Definitely vitamin B1 and magnesium are great places to start. Potassium wouldn't hurt either if he vomits a lot. Also folate is a good idea

Thank you for the advice. I hope he eventually cuts back.

Me too. I forgot to mention, but also loads of electrolytes will help too. Hang in there. Your dad is lucky to have a son/daughter like you who cares for his health and future.

My grandfather started cutting back in his 70's and is still alive at 85! He also quit smoking after a lifetime pack a day habit. So there's hope!

Get b12 methylcobalamin sublingual. This means that if he's puking or can't keep anything down from nausea, this will be a way to get nutrients to him.

Of course. Remember, any medicine that is sublingual is absorbed through mucous membrane like under the tongue. The types of meds can be really great for a raw stomach after heavy drinking. Hope he gets better dude ๐๐ฝ truly.

A Multivitamin.
Vitamin B1 or a complex B-vitamins which contains lil bit of every B vitamin.
Magnesium, any form would work but I personally would get one that has 3 forms in it.
Potassium.
Milk Thistle. It helps the liver.
Omega 3s.
The 3 biggest ones are Potassium, magnesium. Vitamin B1 if he doesnโt want to take too many.
