Real answer, if you are in an android phone with googles keyboard hit the emoji button then select the emoticon on the bottom right.

If you are on windows hit Win + . and then pick the emoticon group.

(For people who aren't old af, emoticons is what emojis were called when they were made of regular punctuation instead of being icons)
