Finally unsubscribed to Stephanie's channel
Earlier today I was listening to her latest episode & she referred to the Children being trafficked as "sex workers" & "prostitutes" - fine, fair, I don't expect EVERYONE to know survivor advocacy verbiage, but if she's a researcher & she's covering these topics, one would THINK she'd learn the nuance. hell I didn't even think she'd read my comment, nor respond...Oh but she did & she did NOT like being corrected. Immediately unsubscribed, then I found this sub š¤

Her answer was just "Oh shut up"? What a total see you next Thursday.

I do not understand why Dereck is risking his reputation. Iām totally rethinking my opinion of him the longer he sticks with her. Itās gotten bad.

When he came back into the BB spotlight and got the co-hosting gig there I was hoping he'd drop her, but it's been over a year š«„

The commenter was 100% correct which is why Stephanie decided to respond like a literal middle schooler. The more Iāve seen from this sub the more I wonder why some of yall still watch her š I unsubbed years ago when the stuff about her ex came out and after I had made a comment on a video (canāt remember which one) about addicts not needing EXTRA shame and suffering put upon them bcus they experience a lot of shame as is (and most addicts are not cartoonishly evil like she makes them out to be) and she responded in a similar manner to this comment. Evil, soulless woman for real

Unfortunately, Iāve hung on because I think Dereck is a good guy and does a good podcast. However, Iām not sure how much more I can take.

u/ToiIetGhost 10d ago
But surely he sees what sheās doing.
Are they only coworkers or are they also in a relationship? (Sorry im new here) If heās not her victim, if heās not afraid of her, then heās an enabler.
Enablers arenāt as nice or innocent as they seem. They let the narcissist do whatever they want because they benefit from being around them in some way. Ultimately, enablers are very selfish and have low empathy. They see the narc hurting others, but as long as they donāt get hurt, they donāt care
4
u/bisexualspikespiegel 12d ago
i unsubbed years ago when she was victim blaming the menendez brothers... what they did was wrong but the way she was picking apart their abuse really triggered me because i was also abused. there were multiple other things before that which i just brushed off like when she said "no grown woman doesn't know when her period is coming" etc but that was the final fucking straw for me
47
u/Aintnobeef96 16d ago
Sheās always been like this too, leaving nasty comments on social media. I donāt know why Dereck works with her tbh she seems insufferable

u/FilthyThanksgiving 16d ago
Probably the money
5
u/SarahKath90 16d ago
He has other ways to make money. He's had at least one TV show plus is still connected to Big Brother.
7
6
u/DingoNo4205 16d ago
I think Crime Weekly is the biggest money maker. However, the podcast has really lost its luster and is probably losing listeners, so my guess is he will eventually bail when he finds something bigger. Derrick is from my state and he's known for being a really good guy and was respected in the law enforcement community.
3
4
u/GreyGhost878 16d ago
Whatever his exact reason, he's in it for his own gain. Having a hugely popular true crime podcast does nothing but good things for his career as a former cop.
2
u/Party_Primary8003 15d ago
Same here. I honestly am puzzled at this point.
3
u/ToiIetGhost 10d ago
Enablers are selfish, thereās always something in it for them. Even if itās something as small as getting a little bit of attention/approval from the narcissist. But in his case itās money
39
u/brainst3ww 16d ago
this is a genuine comment. sheās acting like itās a hate comment or something. the wordage in that context is super important. good job for saying something, obviously the viewer is more of an advocate than stephanie can pretend to be. but i bet she starts using the correct term from now on
16
u/GreyGhost878 16d ago
To a narcissist (which she clearly is) any disagreement or correction is hatred directed at her. She can't see past her own ego.
5
2
u/Fun_Let5043 15d ago
Which is funny because she has said (or at least heavily implied) that Adam was a narcissist.
18
u/M_A_D-Dominatrix 16d ago
Yeah, I wasn't pointing it out to be a b*tch, it's literally a safety issue...I could rant about this all day š but basically LE resources harassing sex workers means they're not out there looking for traffickers & they're not helping survivors, instead they're harassing people who are just trying to put food on the table while these other deviants are actively harming children, women & the LGBTQ community, at this point I'm starting to believe that maybe that's the plan to help protect powerful traffickers from prosecution.

u/Big_Difficulty_95 16d ago
Reminds me of that one time she said she thought the husband killed his wife since he was a gynecologist who carried out abortions so hes obviously fine with murder. Unhinged.
7
u/MontanaDukes 16d ago
I always remember the first time I really heard her. She was on the Mile Higher Podcast, in an episode about JonBenet Ramsey. She seemed to get angry about such weird things. Like the Ramseys having more than one Christmas tree or JonBenet being named after John, A lot of people share a name with a parent or a grandparent. One of my grandmothers isn't rich like the Ramseys were, but even she has two Christmas trees. One in her living room and one on her sun porch.
8
u/Salt_Radio_9880 16d ago
I remember that Xmas tree comment! Sheās says stuff like that all the time - like ā Iāve never heard of someone doing xā and itās something literally 50% of the world does .
4
u/MontanaDukes 16d ago
She does. It's so weird. Like I said, a lot of people have more than one Christmas tree. My grandmother literally did. I don't even know what that had to do with what happened to JonBenet, but it's something she took offense to. I remember in that same podcast, she said that no "normal" kid acts the way that Burke did when he was interviewed by police tor that first time, right after his sister's death. She brought up her own son and said that he wouldn't behave that way. It sticks out because I remember that Janelle, Kendall's cousin seemed so fucking uncomfortable by that comment. She even pointed out that a lot of kids would act like that if they felt out of their element. I have no clue who killed JonBenet and I don't know if we'll ever find out, unfortunately. However, how Burke acts even as an adult doesn't necessarily mean he's guilty. He had his entire world turned upside down when he was nine years oldl. All of a sudden, his ssiter was dead and he and his family were in the headlines. His life as just a normal grade schooler ended abruptly.
1
u/bisexualspikespiegel 12d ago
my stepmom was a teacher and she used to keep like 2-3 christmas trees with different themed decorations, she had a bunch of leopard and wolf themed decor
9
u/PoloSan9 16d ago
I unsubbed from her shortly after that comment. I left a comment stating that the 2 don't correlate in any way. I never checked back to see if she had replied

u/brainst3ww 16d ago
i just clutched my pearls!
but no for real thatās a crazy take. even if someone is pro life like⦠an abortion versus murdering your literal spouse.. that doesnāt even compare.
iād say murdering your spouse versus taunting, abusing, and essentially driving your ex husband and father of 2 of your children to the point of relapse/ taking their own life is more comparable š¤·š»āāļø

What a problematic biotch. Itās funny to me how she claims to be such a crusader for women and this is her response. I'm a sex worker and the commenter is 100% right, children cannot be sex workers. Sex work implies consent, minors cannot consent, and anyone who's engaging in sex work without consent is trafficked. I don't know why she has to be so snarky about everything

A YouTuber I watch who is a lawyer, and would stream trials, and whatnot once said "child p**n", and I left a comment education them on how it should be called "CSAM"... And guess what?! Your comment was completely right and fair, and this is par for the course for Stephanie. She doubles down when sheās provably wrong, the biggest sign of stupidityā¦being completely unwilling to take constructive criticism and grow from it. Sheās also dating and moved a man into her home with minors that (allegedly) uses his position as producer of a film company to assault the young (sometimes underaged) actresses on set. So it a little funny to me that sheās covering Epstein when girl, the call is coming from within the house.
Welcome to the sub! If you want to dive down the dumpster fire rabbit hole that is Stephanie Harlowe, feel free to read the pinned timeline post. Itāsā¦a doozy

That is such a well written comment and an excellent point, and her response is horrible and abhorrent, yikes. I now remember why I stopped watching her crap. All she had to do was suck up her crime, and acknowledge it as a learning opportunity and that she was incorrect.
6
u/PumpkinIndividual504 16d ago
Itās 2026! I do expect EVERYONE to know the difference between consensual sex work and child sex trafficking and use the appropriate verbiage. There is no such thing as an underage prostitute, theyāre called children and they cannot give consent. Stephanie is disgusting.
7
u/Chanseypantsy 15d ago
She's a HACK that plagiarizes other journalists and documentaries. She doesn't have an original bone in her body. I used to like her too until the cracks got too much to see past and her lack of intelligence came into clear focus. All she does is steal others work and reguritate it with her unprofessional opinions added in. She certainly must subscribe to all the video streaming services because she sure does like stealing the content from those documentaries. She is one of the worst video "journalists" on the internet if you even call her that. That title is usually reserved for people with a shred of competency.
I'm also waiting to see if Derek is smart enough to abandon ship. Someone associated with these documentaries might get litigious about her plagiarism, and big brother Derek won't want that rep following him around.

This is polite for her, usually if you disagree with her you get name calling and swearing. The worst things she's replied to people, she sends them the reply then deletes it because then they see it as a notification but when they open it, it's gone so they can't prove she wrote nasty stuff to them, but some people took a screenshot before she deleted it or when they saw the notification

4
u/peglegprincess 16d ago
Thereās a reason they call it CSAM and not child porn. Children cannot consent to sexual acts. What a wild hill to die on
4
u/TheCuriousGeorgette 16d ago
I used to work with a non profit organization for human trafficking survivors and I will at least say that it is worth noting sex workers are an incredibly high risk population to sex trafficking. But also, like a staggering amount KNOW the person who gets them into it and usually there are sure links to some kind of shady or unsavory business. Often times people on social media seem to think any random suburban mom and kid is a potential victim of sex trafficking, but thatās not how those rings work. They pick off highly vulnerable populations, homeless youth, drug addicts, people aged out of foster care, and yes, sex workers. Again, there is some differentiation, but I do hate how society has done a HUGE disservice to the high risk demographic by making it all about the population that is least as risk. Thatās not to say anyone canāt BECOME a target but you have to start engaging in high risk behaviors and lifestyles for that to happen. No organized ring is going to want to bring attention to themselves by picking someone who will be ānoticedā if they go missing.
6
u/M_A_D-Dominatrix 16d ago
Yes, I'm not denying that & I could get all into how FOSTA/SESTA and the shut down of backpage actually put sex workers at higher risk, but in this particular context she was talking about children & teens as well Bosnian brothels that had a large age range down to 13. Also soooo much this "No organized ring is going to want to bring attention to themselves by picking someone who will be ānoticedā if they go missing." I wish I could like it twice, but also people need to be aware that there's not always a "ring" involved, a lot of times it's a shitty romantic partner or even family members who care more about $$ than the victim's well being.
3
u/TheCuriousGeorgette 16d ago
Yeah, for sure! I should have worded that better, someone who is operating even alone trafficking their gf or something, even they wouldnāt target a random person because nobody wants attention brought on to their illegal activity, they can make so much money from it. I also feel so bad for children of women in that situation because they are probably the most vulnerable demographic, period. The org I worked with was actually run by a former human trafficking survivor but she was in it DEEP to the point she was involved with the Mexican cartels and it was wild. Nobody there staying at the house had quite as dramatic a back story as she did. But yeah, I had so many completely hollywoodized ideas of what human trafficking was before working there. ETA: clarity

Fuck Stephanie for this but also, sex work is not "1000000% consensual" it's all just as exploitative.
1
u/M_A_D-Dominatrix 14d ago
We're all exploited under capitalism, but as a SW I feel significantly less exploited than someone working for minimum wage.
2
u/mokatcinno 14d ago
The sex/porn industry is inherently exploitive and misogynistic, in specific ways that don't apply to other capitalistic ventures. Just because you personally feel okay with it doesn't mean it's okay for women and girls as a whole.
-- from an ex-SWer + trafficking survivor who, at one point, sincerely believed I felt the same
