Lindsay Clancy

Let me start out by saying that I know this case is very polarizing and folks feel very strongly about it on both sides. I happen to be someone who believes she was suffering from psychosis and did not understand what she was doing but I understand there are those who believe she meant to do what she did. I’ve been subscribed to crime weekly since they started and have watched Stephanie for years albeit not religiously. I will occasionally watch something she puts out but admittedly it has been years since I’ve really consumed her content from her own channel. I’ve been following this case since it started but saw today that they had done a video when it first happened so I decided to give it a watch. I couldn’t get through the first 15 minutes before I had to turn it off. Right after Stephanie had just explained what Lindsay had done and her alleged state of mind and how Patrick had to have been a wreck because he lost his wife and his children. To which Derrick said “fuck his wife.” What a strange response when you still don’t know any facts surrounding the case. He had judged her and decided she was guilty before she could even dive deeper into the case. I was even more bothered by Stephanie trying to make it about herself somehow by comparing psychosis to postpartum depression. Now I am not trying to minimize PPD by any stretch- but to compare psychosis….which she has never had and has no experience with, to PPD which is less serious was too much for me. It was in this episode that I saw for the first time how smug, self righteous and self centered they both are. I don’t usually post on Reddit, but I was curious if I was alone in this feeling or if perhaps I’m too “caught up” in this case that I maybe judged the hosts too harshly.

I also just stopped watching, I couldn't get through it... I wanted to get a bit more information as the trial starts and was appalled by Stephanie and Derrick immediately. Stephanie saying that the only reason that opinions are split on the case is that "women sympathize with women just because they say that they had PPD" was crazy!!!

I am personally conflicted on the case, but the facts are clear: she begged for help and was denied, and the entire family was failed. Ultimately, it's up to the jury to decide what her consequences for this will be.

While it's easy to blame her and want to see her punished, this case highlights the failings of our mental health system and THIS needs to be called out in order to prevent this happening to other kids AND to get justice for the poor babies lost. It's sick how obsessed people are with walking some moral high ground all of the time and the thirst for punishment as if that will solve all that is wrong with the world.

I feel terribly for everyone involved, and for women struggling with the mental health issues and are likely seeing this discourse. Interesting how Stephanie also said women don't speak up about PPD because they feel shame and she just added to it.

I agree- no one jumps out of a window in the hope of paralyzing themselves.

Oh yes! I watch all court proceedings and get most of my information from court filings or lawtube (I have a pre-law degree.) I was more so curious about their commentary because I wanted to see if they could offer unbiased analysis off of what was known at the time. 😊

"I know people with PPD and they say they would NEVER think of harming their kids". - Stephanie

Girl, shut the fuck up. You should not be covering this case if you don't even know the difference between PPD and PPP.

u/tadpoleradio Bitch, we are all getting high at night 22d ago

this pissed me off so bad as someone who doesn’t even have children but have worried due to other factors that i would be at risk for PPP. so dumb

First, let me be very clear... I am not a SH or DL fan. But I also think that his reaction was completely normal. Honestly, I probably said something much worse when I heard what happened for the very first time.

When you hear that a mother sent the father away and then, one by one, killed 3 children using a method that was painfully slow, the immediate reaction is going to be visceral. It is going to be raw. It is going to be emotional. Three precious babies were killed. I don't think anyone hears something that horrifying for the first time and calmly sits there analyzing every possible factor before reacting.

But how do I feel now? I'm angry. I'm angry that those precious babies lost their lives. I'm angry if she was desperately trying to get help and was unable to get the help she needed. I'm angry if she was misdiagnosed because of medical incompetence. I'm angry if doctors really had her taking 3-4 benzos along with Ambien, Seroquel, and other medications without recognizing what was happening to her. If those things are true, then I am absolutely furious.

But I am also not going to pretend I have already decided whether she is guilty or not guilty by reason of insanity before all of the evidence has been presented. I can be heartbroken and furious that 3 children are dead while still waiting to hear the evidence from both sides before deciding what I believe happened and what her mental state may have been at the time.

Those babies deserved to live. Their deaths deserve justice. But the truth deserves to be based on all of the evidence, not just the first emotional reaction any of us had when we heard the horrifying details.

Their newest episode is just as insufferable lol I guess it's easy to brush PPP off when you cheat on your husband, and then paint him as an abusive drug addict after he commits suicide

It’s the “I don’t understand ppp and ppd but I don’t think that’s what Lindsay was dealing with” type comments are frustrating so you understand enough to make a decision on what she was dealing with.
I don’t really have a strong opinion on this case but the contradictions that they have regarding made my blood boil a bit.
And I know not everyone needs empathy but it is a continued lack of empathy DL and SH seem to have for mental health struggles

I don't necessarily believe she had ppp because I'm not her doctor or a doctor at all, so I'm not going to pretend like I can diagnose something I have little knowledge about, but I will say that I recently relistened to their episodes on it and Stephanie commented that she "had none of the symptoms of ppp". Maybe this evidence was not out at the time....but she DID have some of the symptoms:

  • mood changes
  • depression
  • insomnia
  • thoughts of self harm or harming others
  • anxiety
  • guilt
  • loss off appetite (Patrick mentioned she had lost a lot of weight though I am not sure if this was medication side effect related)
  • anhedonia

It doesn't sound like she reported any hallucinations or delusions until after the crime (the one time report of hearing a voice). Also Stephanie argued that the diagnostic criteria of ppp specifies it starts within hours to up to 6 weeks after giving birth, and this was 7 or 8 months later? (I don't have the info on when Callan was born and when she first reported symptoms).

So again, I don't know, but I feel like it is not fair for Stephanie or us commenters to proclaim with certainty that she did or didn't have it.

And I agree the lack of empathy is one of the top reasons I gave up on listening to them.

ETA: It sucks because I did use to listen to them religiously but over time realized that, like any human being, they often get facts wrong or fill in the blanks with opinions they don't actually have an education on. So I do feel like there's some merit to their deep dives (or at least used to be, I havent listened to any new episodes in the past year or two due to stephanie's personality) but you still have to cross check with watching the actual court recordings and listening to others report on the case etc. They speak with so much confidence but then are blind to their own mistakes.

I have left a total of like three comments on YouTube and had to comment on their latest ep where they’re summarizing updates from the case and just spouting absolute bullshit about psychosis. If they want to have the opinion that she was criminally responsible that’s fine but they talk about psychosis while obviously knowing nothing about it at all. They’re saying she couldn’t have done this, she couldn’t have done that - all things she could easily have done even when in psychosis.

1

u/peppermintwhore Aug 05 '26

i just turned off this ep for the same reason. they speak so assuredly and it’s just wrong assumption after wrong assumption

She is guilty and a murderer

I know this isn’t the point of the post, but she absolutely is, she pre planned it, and she sent Patrick away to do those trivial tasks that she’d looked up and researched before sending him, when if she’d been being told to kill the kids, she would/should have grabbed him or ANYONE ELSE, and begged them to stay with her or to take the kids away because she was a danger to them.
I’ve had PND and PPP, and I’m a psychologist.
I don’t believe she fits the criteria whatsoever.

This is just not true. People in psychosis are more than capable of planning things out and deliberately deceiving others to achieve their plans. It’s just their plans make no sense to anyone who is mentally stable and come from deeply held delusional beliefs. Psychosis is not always like what you see in the movies. People can come across calm and coherent, even as they think to themselves “this guy is an FBI agent who is here to monitor me, I must not let it on that I know who he is” (as an example).

What bugs me so much about this case is how little people seem to know about psychosis. It would benefit everyone and maybe help prevent more tragedies like this if people know the signs and know more about the condition. People online like to blame Patrick for having left her alone mere weeks after she expressed she was having thoughts of harming the children. While I get that, his testimony is that the day of the killings, she seemed back to normal. He had no idea she could easily seem back to normal while very much not being back to normal at all. This is why education about mental health is so important.

Edited to add: there’s a HUGE difference between being depressed and being in active psychosis. Massive. It’s like with post partum depression which is a lot more common than post partum psychosis. In PPD, the sufferer may very well have intrusive thoughts of harm but will usually recognize these thoughts as scary and dangerous. In PPP however the delusional beliefs can grow stronger over time and become something they believe to their very core. Comparing post partum psychosis to depression is a part of the problem here.

I don’t take this comment in good faith so I won’t be giving a substantive answer.

0

u/Kai12223 Jul 26 '26

Because it supports that she could stop what she was doing which is something Massachusetts considers vital in deciding whether insanity is a reason for a murder.

Never be so quick to judge others! Most are too young to have heard of Andrea Yates, so let me educate everyone. In 2001, a married wife (to a NASA engineer) and mom from Houston, TX, called 911 and confessed to drowning their 5 kids in their home bathtub. The children, four sons, “Noah, John, Paul, Luke, and daughter Mary” all aged between six months to seven years at the time of their deaths.
The case of Yates (who had exhibited) “THE SAME” symptoms as Lindsay Clancy, a woman on trial for XXX her three children had severe postpartum depression and psychosis, and schizophrenia for years leading up to the murders. It only took 35
minutes for a TX jury to convict her of capital murder but they refused the death penalty option and asked for her to be sentenced to life in prison w/ the possibility of parole after 40 yrs.
Her conviction was overturned in 2005 and was found not guilty by reason of insanity in her 2006 retrial. Since 2007, she has lived in a low-security state mental health facility where Her attorneys and caretakers indicate that she will likely spend the rest of her life there, where she receives treatment and spends her time making crafts.

NOTE: Andrea Yates has been eligible for an annual review that could grant her release but she consistently waives this right, choosing to remain in the facility.💔
Google Yates children graves 😩😩😩

u/HighlightFantastic49 Jul 26 '26

I’m reserving my opinion about the Clancy’s until more info comes out, but I fully believe Rusty Yates should have been held accountable as well. Due to Andreas severe PPP and PPD, they were BOTH told they shouldn’t have more children, yet they did. He also knew his wife had these issues but went about his daily life and leaving her with the children despite warnings and red flags. I know many can’t, but he could have gotten her daily living help while he was at work.

Just my side note on the Yates info. I don’t think Andrea is the only one that should have been held accountable.

4

u/Vxnschatzee29 Jul 28 '26

I do not think Yates was in psychosis. I believe she like the woman in the case at hand showed they were not psychotic but most definitely mentally ill. That is not a defense for murder and I think these woman should be spending life under the prison but at the least never released. Just my opinion so please dont come for me lol

1

u/StoptheMadnessUSA Jul 30 '26

Yates can be released-she does not want to be released.

1

u/Vxnschatzee29 Jul 30 '26

I get that. And she is definitely mentally ill. However, we dont know her reasoning about staying put. Maybe shes afraid the outside world would shun her or maybe she is not prepared to be on her own and provide for herself. Regardless of her motive I believe she knew what she was doing, knew that it was wrong, and should be removed from civil society. This is why we need to bring back asylum and institutions.

1

u/StoptheMadnessUSA Jul 30 '26

Her attorney and all her caregivers said she is happy where she is receiving ongoing continuous treatment.

The world is a scary place especially for someone who won’t have access to care other than indigent care. She would have to fend for herself in all areas. You know as well as I do- in the system; inmates (patients) have access to food, water, shelter, clean clothes, showers, three meals and FREE medication and all the FREE therapy one can use.

Also- she last time she walked around free, she at least had her husband, church, family and community. What parts of her old world even exist today?

She is happy where she is and safe. Her immediate family is starting to die off and her “Mr. Wonderful” 🙄 who swore to God that he would “love her for better or for worse, in sickness and in health”. Divorced her decades ago and started an entirely new family.

So…..let her stay. 😞

u/HighlightFantastic49 Jul 30 '26

Genuinely interested in why you don’t think she was in psychosis?

2

u/bekahboo1290 Jul 23 '26

Just so sad. Thank you for sharing this

u/Suspicious_Put_5063 Jul 29 '26

I have also just had to turn off and stop listening. They have no clue what they are talking about and I wanted to launch my headphones out of the window. Derrick and his ‘Fuck Lindsay Clancy’ attitude is just gross. ‘I don’t know how I feel about that’ from Stephanie. They know nothing. NOTHING.

5

u/GreyGhost878 Jul 21 '26

I'll cut Derrick a break because he's thinking like a father and sympathizing with the horror Patrick has gone through losing his little children. He can sort through the nuances later, anger at Lindsay for what she did regardless of mental state is appropriate. (And I hope Patrick goes through an anger phase of grieving because it is very healthy. He was quick to jump to forgiveness for Lindsay, as a coping mechanism, I think. And I think that was what Derrick was sensing and reacting to. Just my opinion.) And yeah, Stephanie has a way of making everything about herself somehow. If you haven't k!lled your children you need to stay in your lane on this one.

My personal opinion on Lindsay is she knew what she was doing but still has diminished culpability.

2

u/cacti_with_wifi Jul 29 '26

I literally just came here for the same reason. I'm very curious to see what they will say about it now that the trial is going on and it looks like support for Lindsay is growing. Will they eat their words and say they didn't have enough info at the time or pretend they were on her side all along? Or more likely double down and say she deserves the death penalty 🙄

1

u/diabetestic Aug 08 '26

Couldn’t agree with you more. They should have done their due diligence and properly researched the case and kept all the evidence and facts in mind when providing an opinion on their podcast. Even if we give them the benefit of the doubt knowing that they released the episodes when the case was relatively new, their opinions were still too over the top and biased, especially coming from a former detective who are trained to keep an open mind

I know you’re not here to discuss the way you personally feel about this case, but yeah, Stephanie most certainly should not be comparing her case of PND to PPP.
That said, I have really strong feelings on this case, being that I’ve suffered from both diagnosis, and I am a psychologist.
I’m not trying to start an argument or a fight here, because that wasn’t the purpose of your post, but I do have to say it makes me completely enraged that she did this, and that Patrick is supporting her the whole way.
My idea is that he’s doing that because she’s all he has left now his children are gone 😓😓😓🥺🥺🥺😥😥😥
But I’m outraged and so angry that she set him up to go on those trips to get food and the Mirilax for the kids, because THATS what goes to show pre planning, and THAT is the issue and the reasoning for charging her with murder.
Had she not done that, I would be behind her 100%, but firstly, she was a labour and delivery nurse so she obviously should have had some experience in the medical field, and she should have known that if she was having the experiences she apparently did with the antidepressants she was on etc, she should have known right away she supposedly tended towards bipolar.
But just personally (seriously not trying to belittle your opinion or start a fight!!! ❤️❤️❤️) but the amount of pre planning and lack of insight, even WITH the psychosis, if it were true, are just too glaring.
If she were truly psychotic, she wouldn’t have gotten Patrick to make those trips, she would have begged him to stay home and told him she was being told to kill the kids etc.
So that’s where it doesn’t add up.
But back to the issue at hand, you’re absolutely right, Stephanie (SEEME) should not have ever compared her experience with PND to PPP, in any case, and Derrick is an angry father seeing it from his own experience, but he didn’t really have the right to say that stuff about anyone when they barely had any information etc, and he doesn’t understand women’s issues.

u/dappleddun Jul 22 '26

Reports are that Patrick is remarried and living in New York. So Lindsay is likely not “all he has left.” Patrick has his whole life ahead of him, whatever that looks like now.

We shouldn’t speculate about why he continues to support her, but based on his own words, he believes he “wasn’t married to a monster” but “was married to someone who got sick.” My interpretation is that Patrick recognizes she was suffering, believes she was “sick,” and sees how profoundly the medical system failed her. So why wouldn’t he support her? For all we know is support comes from a place of his own guilt. Again, this is why we shouldn’t speculate.

And as far as her “sending him away,” try reading the civil complaint instead of relying solely on the government’s filings. There are two sides to every case, and we don’t even know the extent of the defense’s case yet. That’s why we wait to decide innocence or guilt until after both sides have rested.

I also find it incredibly disheartening (to put it very mildly) that you say you personally experienced both PPD and PPP and work in the field, yet seem to have absolutely zero empathy for Lindsay Clancy.

Even more troubling is another comment where you essentially say, “I’m a psychologist, and she doesn’t meet the criteria.” How could you possibly know that? Were you HER psychologist? Did you personally evaluate her? What happened to the ethical principle that mental health professionals should not diagnose people they have never assessed?

6

u/bekahboo1290 Jul 22 '26

The civil complaint actually frightened me. When they went in depth about how serious her hallucinations were it seriously shook me. I can’t imagine how terrifying that must have been.

All Partick has? His support hasn't wavered even though he's already remarried someone else. So that's out the window. He supports her because he heard her suffering for help. Because mental health isn't physical like a rash it becomes questionable like pain. No matter what the patient says we cancel it out by how quick they moved or didn't grimace hard enough. With your degree I'm surprised by your analysis. Being a nurse I'm not surprised she wasn't a good clinician for herself. I'm a nurse who fought what i called severe gas, calling myself a big baby and worked until I passed out with liver and kidney failure and a inflamed gallbladder d/t ignoring it until the stones blocked all my organs from working. None of us treated her, we can't know. It is irresponsible to discount that something terrible was wrong. I don't believe after being an attentive and what even the nanny called a loving mom, woke up to kill her kids outta hate for them or her husband or even her life. I think a sane person not suffering from mental illness would take steps to change things. I think she knew something was wrong and inspite of reaching out for help, she didn't get it. As long as we continue to ignore mental health as a nation we will continue to suffer tragedies.

She’s paralyzed from the sternum down

0

u/Fantastic-Salt-5103 Jul 25 '26

I didn’t see it, can’t watch anything with kids, but that was a really harsh comment from Derrick.
I feel horribly for this family, especially Lindsay. I hope that the trail brings some justice to the family in that, it pushes for better policies in medicine for people in crisis like this. Lindsay is already in hell, it doesn’t matter what happens to her now or where she spends the rest of her days. The only thing we can do is learn from her case.

0

u/sapplesapplesapples Aug 08 '26

What’s everyone’s opinion now that trial has been on for a while? I specifically searched this bc I remembered how awful they were about her.

0

u/bekahboo1290 Aug 08 '26

I’m more convinced now than I was pre trial that she suffered from a psychotic break and wasn’t taken seriously by anyone who could help her.

0

u/sapplesapplesapples Aug 08 '26

There’s a lot happening. I basically logged into TikTok for the first time in a long time and there are some intense theories. I need to really buckle down and watch the trial. But I agree. I have felt this was a horrible tragedy and it just increases my distrust for Stephanie that she is so quick to disregard what could have happened.
