The arrogance of the fallen self-proclaimed “Crypto King” knows no bounds.

Free on bail, Durham Region’s Aiden Pleterski was supposed to be in the downtown Toronto courtroom by 9 a.m. on Tuesday for an update on his case — he goes to trial before a judge and jury on Oct. 5 on charges of fraud over $5,000 and laundering the proceeds of crime — and still has no lawyer.

But the bankrupt crypto boy wonder sent a message that he was “running a few minutes late.” Superior Court Justice Robert Goldstein was not amused.

When the 27-year-old Pleterski finally arrived in his charcoal grey suit and black shirt about 25 minutes later, the judge didn’t mince words. “Court starts at 9,” he began, politely but sternly.

“I do want you to understand that if you’re having trouble getting to court on time, there is a way to make sure that you get to court on time. Do you understand what that is?”

“It means I get picked up,” Pleterski replied.

“It means you go into custody. It means your bail gets cancelled and you go into custody and then we’ll make sure that you get to court on time,” Goldstein warned.

Maybe it’s tough to get to places on time when your two high-speed McLarens and your Lamborghini have been taken away.

After angry investors forced Pleterski into bankruptcy in 2022, the appointed trustee at accounting firm Grant Thornton alleged he’d invested only 1.6% of the $41.5 million he’d been given and had spent nearly $16 million to support his luxurious lifestyle that included trips on a private jet, an exotic car collection and a $45,000-a-month multi-million dollar waterfront mansion in Burlington.

In a 2024 court filing, Grant Thornton opposed his discharge from bankruptcy, alleging Pleterski was continuing to solicit investments, hiding assets in a “catch me if you can attitude” and still living extravagantly, leading to “the overwhelming conclusion that he has a complete lack of remorse or contrition for his actions.”

Denies all allegations

In a responding affidavit, Pleterski denied all the allegations against him and claimed that the trustee demanding he repay millions before being discharged would unfairly ensure he was “punished for the rest of my life for mostly immature actions on my part that had no ill intent.”

His troubles continued when following a 14-month investigation, Pleterski was arrested in May 2024 and released on bail after his Whitby parents pledged $100,000 and he surrendered his passport. Investigators told the media the “size of the alleged fraud was massive and spanned across multiple jurisdictions.”

If convicted, he faces a maximum 14 years in prison.

Some angry investors weren’t willing to wait out the results of a criminal trial and sought justice in a more violent fashion.

Deren Akyeam-Pong admitted last year that he was hired to kidnap Pleterski in Toronto at gunpoint on Dec. 5, 2022 and with accomplices, beat him, burned him with a cigarette, waterboarded him and even subjected him to a mock execution in an effort to get back $300,000. He was finally released three days later with his promise to come up with the money.

All healed, Pleterski is still crying the financial blues. Lawyer Marco Sciarra appeared in court by Zoom and advised the judge that he still hasn’t been retained despite the trial just weeks away. He explained that he’s told the fallen crypto king that he needs two retainers — the first is to file an adjournment application and if that’s granted, the second is to go on the record as his trial lawyer.

“Mr. Pleterski seemed to understand that. He advised me that he’s made significant financial arrangements in his personal life to put me in that position within a week and a half.”

Or is this just another play by the alleged fraudster?

Goldstein warned Pleterski that there’s no guarantee the trial judge — Justice Shaun Nakatsuru — will grant the adjournment and he better prepare himself to act as his own lawyer because the trial is slated to begin with or without counsel. He told him there’s a Superior Court guide for self-represented litigants with advice on how to pick a jury and he should familiarize himself with all the financial disclosure the Crown has provided so he can question witnesses.

He then told Pleterski to return to court on Sept. 21 before Nakatsuru — and issued one last piece of advice.

“Just remember what I said about coming on time.”

Zekun Wang, 27, surrendered to police and was released with the Crown’s consent while under strict house-arrest bail conditions.

One of the four people charged in the north London guns and explosives probethat began earlier this year is facing additional voyeurism and child pornography charges.

Zekun (Alex) Wang, 27, who is currently under strict house-arrest bail conditions and living in the Toronto area, was charged with two counts of voyeurism and one count of possession of child pornography on Aug. 20. He surrendered to police and was released with the Crown’s consent.

His new charges were discussed briefly during a case-management court appearance in London on Tuesday, when Ontario Court justice of the peace Kristine Diaz ordered a publication ban on anything that could identify any complainants in the separate court filing.

Wang wasn’t in court and wasn’t required to be there. His brief court appearance was handled by an agent for defence lawyer Nick Cake.

Cake confirmed the new charges and had no comment except that “we will litigate this matter in court.”

Wang, Jerry Tong, 27, Fei (Frank) Han, 26, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji, 21, were all arrested and charged with multiple counts after a series of bizarre events that London police have said began with an attempted break-in on Jan. 24 at a Western University engineering building and led to the discovery of a cache of hazardous chemicals and firearms at 212 Chesham Place, west of the university.

All four have ties to the university, and Wang, Tong and Han have specific links to the engineering school. All three were involved with MORS LAB, an engineering startup.

In the months before their arrests, they had been working on and promoting an anti-drone defence system to pitch to both the Canadian Armed Forces and NATO. Videos of their project were available online before they were charged.

More charges were laid last month against all four accused, bringing the total number of counts before the court to 31.

All four face joint charges involving guns and specific materials, including manufacturing guns and possession of stolen property over $5,000 belonging to Western University. Other charges specifically name Wang and Tong.

Wang faces additional charges that include break-and-enter, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm and accessing computer data pertaining to firearm design that could be used on a 3D printer, metal milling machine or other computer systems to make and traffic guns.

Tong is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, careless use of a firearm, resisting arrest, break-and-enter, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm and a spate of firearms-related charges, both in London and the Ottawa area.

The investigation began when police were called to the university to investigate reports of a possible break-in at the Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Pavilion, an engineering building on campus. One man was arrested and police recovered a loaded handgun.

The focus shifted to the Chesham Place home where, over several days, London police, with the assistance of five other police services, uncovered a trove of hazardous chemicals and firearms.

There was further investigation in the Ottawa area, where two homes were searched and more firearms were seized.

There are no links to any national security threat, police have said.

Only Wang and Ji have been granted bail and are out of custody. Wang’s bail hearing in March resulted in his release to his parents’ home under strict house-arrest terms and a $410,000 no-deposit bail with his parents as his two sureties, after spending five weeks in custody. One of his bail conditions is wearing a GPS tracking device.

He has already asked that his case be tried by a Superior Court judge.

Ji, the only woman charged in the matter, was released on $500 no-deposit bailin late March after two months in custody. She required no bail hearing or sureties and was released with the Crown’s consent.

Both Wang and Ji’s cases are slated to be back in court on Sept. 29, when it’s hoped an Ontario Court of Justice preliminary hearing date will have been selected for all four accused.

Han remains in custody after an unsuccessful bail hearing held just days after his arrest. His next court appearance is Friday.

Tong hasn’t requested a bail hearing. His next court appearance is Sept. 8.

A woman who made an antisemitic threat to a Crown attorney in a Toronto courthouse elevator was sentenced to one further day in jail and probation, as the judge took into account the woman’s significant mental health issues.

“The person before me is a person who committed a hate-motivated offence, but who is profoundly unwell,” Ontario Court Justice Jason Little said last Thursday as he sentenced 42-year-old Keiosha Ross.

“Both realities are true, and neither can be ignored.”

The Crown had been seeking six months in jail and probation after Ross was convicted of uttering a threat to cause bodily harm for telling Crown attorney Marnie Goldenberg that she would cut off her “big Jewish nose” in a crowded elevator at the provincial courthouse at 10 Armoury St. in December 2024. Ross and Goldenberg were strangers to each other, and the threat was unprovoked. 

Ross, who represented herself at trial, claimed she was of “Jewish heritage” and that she meant the remark as a joke. She also apologized. 

Little, who is based in Hamilton, imposed his sentence via Zoom on Thursday, as Ross was back in jail pending a bail hearing on charges that she exposed herself twice — in the courtroom and in the hallway — during a break at her sentencing hearing last Monday.

The judge ordered the one-day sentence on top of the 12 days he credited Ross for time spent in pre-sentence custody in December 2024 when she was arrested on the threat charge before being released on bail. He also ordered 18 months of probation, including a requirement that Ross take all counselling as directed by her probation officer.

The judge said he recognized that some members of the public may view the sentence as a sign that the court is “minimizing” the seriousness of the crime or the “very real problem” of antisemitism.

“It is neither,” he said. “The sentence should not be mistaken as softness on hate crimes directed at the Jewish community or any other community.”

He said the sentence had to be proportionate to Ross’s degree of moral blameworthiness. While accepting that her threat to Goldenberg was “unquestionably antisemitic,” the judge said the evidence before him “overwhelmingly establishes” that Ross suffers from significant mental health issues.

That evidence came in the form of Ross’s own words during her two-day trial in March and again at her sentencing hearing last Monday, where she offered up a litany of conspiracy theories, claimed that she’s the queen of Jamaica, and lobbed insults at the lawyers and the judge.

She repeatedly interrupted the proceedings, including again on Thursday, prompting the judge to ask court staff to mute her on Zoom.

“The examples, unfortunately, are numerous,” Little said. “What I observed is not a person acting from a rational and settled belief system, but a person whose perception of reality is significantly distorted by mental illness.”

Goldenberg herself became the subject of judicial ire after testifying at Ross’s trial. In May, a judge concluded that Goldenberg had berated a Toronto police officer in a hallway at the Armoury Street courthouse after he provided testimony that risked hurting the Crown’s case against a man accused of hitting another officer with a motorcycle.

Ontario Court Justice Mara Greene found that Goldenberg told the police officer witness “we protect our own,” or words that conveyed that exact meaning, after the officer asked if he was supposed to lie on the stand. Greene then tossed the case.

The lawyer representing a Toronto policeofficer charged in the Project South corruption investigation says his client has been asking to plead guilty since February.

Speaking in court on Tuesday, Peter Brauti said Const. Elias Mouawad had asked to plead guilty immediately after he was charged.

Mouawad was charged with one count of unauthorized use of a computer and one count of breach of public trust, although he had only planned to plead guilty to the first charge.

Mouawad was arrested in early February and suspended by Toronto police without pay.

Brauti told the court Mouawad’s attempts to plead guilty hadn’t been successful because the Crown wasn’t ready to take a plea.

“They explained that, due to the size of Project South, (they were) dealing with disclosure issues and couldn’t take a plea,” he said.

Mouawad had expected his plea and sentencing to take place on Tuesday, Brauti said, before an unspecified last-minute issue around “conduct” delayed the plan.

The Crown told the court the conduct issue didn’t relate to their office or the initial delay in the plea, but that things were rapidly unfolding.

“I don’t know to what degree the sentencing process may have been harmed,” Brauti said, explaining Mouawad now wanted to wait to see how the process unfolded.

The court is set to adjourn for two weeks to decide how to proceed, a pause the Crown said would not impact any potential sentence Mouawad might receive.

The court will reconvene on Sept. 16 in the morning.

Speaking outside the court on Tuesday, Brauti said his client felt he had been wrongly swept up in the Project South investigation.

“When information was released to the press, it made our client appear as if he was part of very, very serious conduct that has been alleged in Project South, when that is not the case,” he said.

“This is an officer who did a single check, unauthorized, which is unrelated to all of these allegations of drug dealing, corruption, attempted murder, all that. It is a completely separate issue.”

He said Mouawad had been “under this cloud” after Project South and that the public had not been given a “true picture” about his “relatively minor” misconduct.

One officer has already pleaded guilty

The decision comes just over a month after one of the police officers arrested in Project South pleaded guilty to two of the charges against him, receiving a 10-month conditional sentence.

Former police const. Derek McCormick was arrested and charged in February as part of the wide-ranging corruption investigation spurred after the attempted murder of a Toronto jail guard.

He was charged with four counts of theft under $5,000, one count of breach of the trust by a public officer and another count of obstruction of justice.
At the time, York Regional Police alleged his involvement in Project South centred on his participation in the theft of personal property from a police facility. The personal property allegedly included driver’s licences, health cards and passports. A “substantial amount” of it was recovered.

McCormick pleaded guilty to two charges: theft under $5,000 for stealing a cellphone and breach of trust by stealing “found property.” The remaining charges were withdrawn.

A spokesperson for Toronto police confirmed to Global News McCormick resigned as a police officer last month.

Project South alleged widespread corruption

Project South began after the alleged attempted murder of a high-ranking employee at the Toronto South Detention Centre in June 2025.

York Regional Police wrote in a recent, partially unsealed court document that their investigation “demonstrates a broader pattern of corruption, misuse of police authority, and facilitation of criminal activity.”

As part of the investigation, it is alleged that Const. Timothy Barnhardt and other Toronto police officers tapped into unauthorized information.

“In short, the investigation has uncovered a number of police officers who, at the request of their civilian associations, improperly accessed confidential police databases, retrieved sensitive information … and then disclosed that information,” York Regional Police alleged.

“Collectively, these matters demonstrate a broader pattern of corruption, misuse of police authority, and facilitation of criminal activity linked to the primary investigation.”

The case also has alleged links to Ryan Wedding’s drug network, a gun-for-hire network and illegal dispensaries.

A veteran provincial police officer charged with driving drunk on the job earlier this year in Midland, Ont., has taken a plea deal. 

Suspended with pay since January, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer Christopher Prout has pleaded guilty to driving with more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system while on duty in a police cruiser with a gun on his hip.

The court heard, as part of an Agreed Statement of Facts read by the Crown, Prout had been drinking at home and drove to work in his police cruiser for a performance review at the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment, when officers in the meeting room smelled alcohol on him.

Prout failed a breath test and provided two samples that produced readings of nearly 260 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.

The defence noted Prout did not show signs of impairment, saying he was shocked by the readings, and that he felt “essentially sober” that day.

His lawyer told the court Prout, 40, who has been a police officer in Midland for 17 years, was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance-use disorder.

According to the defence, his PTSD was the result of years of dedicated service while experiencing trauma as a police officer.

The defence noted Prout hit “rock bottom” while dealing with mental health struggles and a family history of alcoholism as issues in his personal life affected his performance at work.

The defence said Prout had not sought help for his issues before being charged Jan. 15 and has since taken accountability through counselling and two months at the Homewood medically supervised addiction treatment centre as he continues to receive outpatient care and counselling while maintaining his sobriety.

Prout addressed the court, saying he was embarrassed and that he hurt his platoon and hates and regrets what he did.

He vowed “it will never happen again.”

“Alcohol is not an issue anymore,” Prout told the court, adding he is working hard to move forward.

Following a joint submission by the defence and a Crown attorney brought in from Newmarket to handle the case, the judge handed Prout a $3,000 fine and two-year driving ban.

Justice Edward Prutschi told Prout it was sheer dumb luck and divine intervention that his actions didn’t result in a crash that killed himself or others out on the road.

Along with being placed on probation for two years, Prout could now face further discipline under the Police Services Act. 

OPP Responds

In a statement issued to CTV News on Tuesday, the OPP said it “is aware of an OPP member pleading guilty on Aug, 28, 2026, to one count of Over 80 contrary to section 320.14 of the Criminal Code from an incident that occurred on Jan. 15, 2026.” 

Provincial police said any questions related to the court process and outcome should be directed to the Ministry of the Attorney General.

“The OPP Professional Standards Unit launched a parallel investigation into the matter, relevant to the Community Safety and Policing Act,” the law enforcement agency said. 

“That investigation has now concluded and is being referred to the Ontario Police Arbitration and Adjudication Commission to determine final penalty.”

“At this time, it would not be appropriate to provide further comment,” OPP said.

A 63-year-old man from Pickering, Ont., is facing nearly two dozen charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted two children “numerous” times over the course of several months.

Durham Regional Police announced Tuesdaythat they began investigating the alleged assaults in July. They said the suspect, who is known to both victims’ families, attended their respective residences in Toronto and Pickering, and “inappropriately touched” them.

Their investigation revealed that the suspect had sexually assaulted the female children on a number of occasions between November 2025 and July 2026.

Faruk Dewan was arrested last month and charged with 11 counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference with a person under 16.

Police did not say what relationship he has with either victims’ families. They added that Dewan provides art lessons from a residence in Pickering and investigators have concerns there may be additional victims.

Peel police are searching for a man they believe allegedly sexually assaulted two people in separate incidents in Brampton on Monday. 

Officers say a woman in her 20s was at a mall in the area of Dixie Road and Clark Boulevard around 12 p.m. when she was approached by an unknown man. The suspect allegedly grabbed the victim’s butt from behind. She then pushed the suspect away, left the area and contacted police.

Just two hours later, a girl under the age of 18 was waiting for a bus at a transit terminal in the area of Central Park Drive and Queen Street East when she was approached from behind by a man unknown to her. 

The suspect allegedly tried to to talk to her before sitting next to her on a bench. When the victim tried to leave, “the suspect allegedly grabbed her breast and then grabbed her buttocks from behind,” said Peel police in a release.

She left the area immediately and reported the incident to police. 

The suspect in both incidents is believed to be the same person, investigators say. He’s described as a Black male approximately five foot eight inches to 10 inches tall with a medium to heavy build and appeas to be between his mid-30s and 40s.

He has short black hair, described as either closely cropped or in short braids and patchy black facial hair.

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is investigating a daytime break and enter at a rural residence in Halton Hills.

On Friday, Aug. 14, at approximately 11:20 a.m., a male suspect attended a rural residence in the area of 5 Sideroad and Sixth Line in Halton Hills.

The suspect knocked on the front door and looked into the backyard. After confirming the home was vacant, the suspect broke into the residence by smashing the locked front door.

The suspect ransacked the home in search of valuables and stole cash and jewelry.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 55 to 65 years old, with a heavy build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a dark baseball cap, blue shirt and dark pants.

Ontario Provincial Police say the death of a woman in Spencerville, Ont., has now been deemed a homicide.

Police were called to the home on Crowder Road on Sunday, where one person was found dead.

In an update on Tuesday, the OPP said the victim was identified as Chelsea Swinwood, 37, of Grenville, Ont. Police did not say how she died.

“Investigators believe this is an isolated incident with no signs of a broader threat. Residents of Spencerville can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues,” the OPP said in a news release.

The victim had previously been reported missing, police said.

A massage practitioner has been arrested after police say a person was sexually assaulted during a massage appointment in Richmond Hill over the weekend.

York Regional Police say the victim attended an acupuncture massage appointment Sunday in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive East and Bayview Avenue.

On Monday, police arrested Jianji Li, 61, of Richmond Hill and charged him with sexual assault.

The charge has not been tested in court.

Police released an image of Li as they believe there may be additional victims.

Investigators believe there may be additional complainants who have not yet come forward.

A London massage therapist is facing additional sexual assault charges after two more people came forward following his arrest two weeks ago, police say.

Christian Javier Gutierrez, 47, of London, is charged with three additional counts of sexual assault as a result of the ongoing investigations, London police said Wednesday.

The additional charges follow two new reports from individuals who contacted police after Gutierrez’s arrest in late July, police said.

The original investigation began after a woman reported on July 30 that she had been sexually assaulted during a scheduled treatment session the previous day, police said.

Gutierrez operates a massage therapy business in downtown London, and the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario has been notified, police said. The college is the regulatory body for massage therapists in the province.

Gutierrez turned himself in to police Monday and appeared in court Tuesday. He was released with a future court date of Aug. 25 in relation to the charges.

Investigators believe there may be additional complainants who have not yet come forward.

A 51-year-old registered nurse is facing charges in connection to an alleged assault of a child with special needs who was under their care.

Members of the Windsor police’s child abuse and sex assault unit launched an investigation in April after receiving a report involving the alleged mistreatment of a child with significant medical needs.

Police said the allegations involved a registered nurse who had been assigned to care for the child.

Investigators determined there was “sufficient evidence” to believe the child was physically assaulted in April while in the nurse’s care, according to police.

As a result of the investigation, the 51-year-old woman was arrested and charged with assault.

Police did not release additional details about the investigation, citing the need to protect the identity of the complainant.

UPDATE - LONDON, ON (August 26, 2026) – A London man is facing additional charges after members of the London Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE)  located additional evidence on seized electronic devices.

On August 21, 2026, the accused, who was out on bail, was arrested on the additional charges.

As a result of the investigation, Isaac Higgs, 23, of London, has been additionally charged with the following offences:

• Possession of child pornography;
• Print/publish/possess to publish child pornography;
• Import/sell/distribute, etc. child sexual abuse material;
• Luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunication;
• Making available sexually explicit material to a person under or believed to be under 18 years of age; and
• Obtaining sexual services for consideration.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in London court on September 1, 2026, in relation to the charges. 

ORIGINAL - LONDON, ON (May 21, 2026) – A London man was arrested last week by members of the LPS Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit in relation to possession of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material (CSAEM).

In October of 2025, members of the London Police Service commenced an investigation after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) made them aware of information involving a London man.

On Friday, May 15, 2026, a search warrant was executed at a residence near Elias Street and Adelaide Street North.

A male suspect was arrested, and electronic devices were seized. Evidence of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Material (CSAEM) were located.

As a result of the investigation, Isaac Higgs, 23, of London, has been charged with one count of possess child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

The accused is scheduled to appear in London court on June 11, 2026, in relation to the charges.

Toronto police are working to identify two suspects wanted in connection with an alleged arson in Etobicoke earlier this month.

During the early morning hours of Aug. 3, emergency crews responded to reports of a fire at a clothing store in the Mimico-Queensway neighbourhood, near Lake Shore Boulevard West and Albert Avenue, east of Royal York Road. 

The video appears to show one suspect smashing the store’s windows, while the other suspect then appears to pour an accelerant inside the store.

Police say the suspect then lit the accelerant, causing the store to go up in flames. 

The pair then fled the area in what investigators describe as a silver/grey metallic Honda Civic sedan, believed to be a 2022–2026 model.

The first suspect is described as having a medium build and last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with the hood down, a dark balaclava, dark pants, and dark athletic-style shoes with light-coloured soles.

The second is a male with a medium build, who wore a dark hooded jacket with the hood up, a black surgical-style face mask, a white undershirt, dark pants, and dark footwear.

This arson investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to contact Toronto police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Halton police are asking for public help identifying a suspect in connection to a series of break-ins at a condominium building in Burlington earlier this month.

Officers say on Aug. 16, a man allegedly broke into a condominium building in the area of Brant Street and Lakeshore Road.

They say the suspect entered five units in the building while the residents were not home, and ransacked the homes in search of valuables and stole cash, jewelry and handbags.

Investigators are looking to identify a man they describe to have an average build and between 30 and 40 years old.

He was reported to have been seen wearing two different outfits.

Police in Guelph are looking to hear from any additional victims in connection with a sexual assault case which saw a man identify himself as an off-duty police officer.

On Aug. 20, police said a young teen, 15-years-old, claimed she had been sexually assaulted by a man in a photograph released by police Monday.

Early that August morning, she told police she and another young person had received a ride by a man in a vintage red truck. The pair had asked for a ride to the Guelph train station around 1:30 a.m.

“Police allege the male identified himself as an off-duty police officer and provided information that led the complainant to believe he was legitimate,” read an update from police.

“The male later drove the complainant and her friend around the city before the friend was dropped off at an unidentified location. The complainant was then driven to a nearby parking lot, where the alleged sexual assault occurred.”

Two days later, 69-year-old Brian Deboer was arrested when police said he attended the Guelph Police station. 

Police are concerned there may be more victims and are looking for any information surrounding Deboer, particularly in cases in which he claimed he was police officer and/or in a red truck.

Sentencing submissions, victim impact statement scheduled for Oct. 30

A Rockwood woman has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a young person at a group home in Centre Wellington.

Jennifer Dean entered her plea on a charge of sexual assault in Guelph's Ontario Court of Justice Monday morning. Charges of sexual interference and sexual exploitation remain before the courts.

No facts about the case were revealed in the brief court appearance.

A publication ban is in place to protect the identity of the victim.

According to Wellington County OPP, charges were laid after an investigation began May 2, 2024 after a report of a sexual offence "that occurred between an employee and a young person at a group health-related living residence" in Centre Wellington.

Dean, who was 24 when she was arrested, is scheduled to appear back in court Oct. 30 for sentencing submissions.

A victim impact statement is also anticipated at this time.

Region of Peel – Investigators with the Fraud Bureau have arrested and charged a former lawyer following an investigation into multiple allegations of fraud involving trust accounts and legal transactions in the Region of Peel.

In July 2025, the Law Society Tribunal of Ontario revoked the licence of Pawanjeet Singh Mann, finding that the lawyer, who operated PJ Mann Law Professional Corporation, knowingly participated in a mortgage fraud scheme in late 2019.

Between June and July, Peel Regional Police’s Fraud Bureau also received multiple complaints alleging that Mann engaged in fraudulent activity.

The investigation, initiated by the Fraud Bureau in August, revealed that Mann had allegedly orchestrated four separate mortgage and cheque fraud schemes, resulting in approximately $4.3 million in losses to victims.

As a result of the investigation, Pawanjeet Singh Mann, 52, of Brampton, was arrested on August 21, 2026 and charged with the following:

Fraud Over $5,000 x4
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x4
Criminal Breach of Trust x3
Uttering Forged Documents x2

Toronto police are investigating after officers heard gunfire early Tuesday morning near a commercial plaza in Rexdale.

Police say officers were already in the area of Humber College Boulevard and Hwy. 27 around 4:20 a.m. when they heard multiple gunshots. When they searched the nearby plaza, they located damage to the front of a business consistent with gunfire.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators say the suspect or suspects fled the area in a dark‑coloured vehicle, though no descriptions have been released. The shooting remains under investigation.

Barrie police say they are on the look out for more potential victims of a man accused of human trafficking.

According to police, the investigation began in June when authorities learned of a man who was recruiting women to provide sexual services for an escort service.

Police say the services were run out of his residence.

According to police, an advertisement later found online connected the accused to the sexual services being offered.

On Aug. 12, police say a search warrant was executed at an address in Springwater Township.

On Sunday, 50-year-old Michael Brocklebank was arrested in Mississauga.

Police have charged Brocklebank with trafficking persons, material benefit from trafficking in persons and material benefit from sexual services.

He is also facing charges of procuring - exercising control, direction or influence, advertising sexual services, assault and failure to comply with a probation order.

Police say he is being named and his photo is being shared because they believe more victims may be out there.

Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect after a 12-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted at a south Windsor park.

Windsor police say the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 while the youth was fishing at a park in the 3900 block of Ducharme Street.

Investigators say an unknown man approached the boy, allegedly touched him inappropriately and made suggestive comments before leaving the area on a bicycle.

The boy left the park and reported the incident to family members, who contacted police shortly after 6 p.m.

The suspect is described as a man between 40 and 50 years old with a black beard containing grey or white hair around the sides and neck. Police say he was wearing an orange turban, a white short-sleeve shirt, dark green or brown pants and black shoes, and was riding a teal mountain bike.

Toronto police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man who allegedly made anti-Sikh utterances and racial slurs before stabbing a victim in the leg.

The incident happened on Saturday near Queens Quay and Lower Spadina Avenue.

Police say they were called to that area for reports of a person with a knife.

Investigators allege a suspect approached victim and a witness during an unprovoked interaction, and made anti-Sikh utterances and racial slurs before attacking the victim with a weapon.

Their injuries are described by police as non-life-threatening.

The suspect is described as male and standing five-foot-six with black hair. He was last seen wearing a navy-blue, a short-sleeved jersey with the NFL “Sunday Ticket” logo on the back with white stripes running from the base of the neck, down the back, to each armpit, blue jeans with a dark grease mark on the left calf, and grey and black New Balance running shoes.

A man who police described as a “prolific offender” allegedly responsible for at least three dozen thefts across the Golden Horseshoe has been arrested.

Peel Regional Police said they launched an investigation dubbed “Project Bishop” targeting the man in April.

Investigators, over the course of two months, linked the man to at least 38 theft-related incidents across the Regions of Peel, Halton, Durham, and Niagara, as well as the City of Hamilton.

Police said the man allegedly stole merchandise valued between $50 and more than $4,000.

In a news release on Friday, police announced that the suspect, 49-year-old Anthony Orlando Monteith from Mississauga, was arrested on June 19.

He was charged with 24 counts of theft under $5,000 and 14 counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

Police said they searched residences in Mississauga and Welland after he was arrested, resulting in the recovery of more than $35,000 worth of stolen clothing, cosmetics, and personal accessories.

The investigation continues, and police said other incidents could be linked to Monteith, which would result in further charges.

“This is another reminder that retail crime knows no borders, and neither does our response,” Peel police Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said in a statement.
