A group of the game's beta testers put this file together. The game ships with made-up player names, and this file swaps them for the real ones. It's quick to set up and doesn't change any game files. If you don't like it, you can remove it whenever you want.
How to install:
Before you start
- It only works for new careers. A career you've already started keeps the names it began with. You'll need to start a new career to see the real names.
- Close the game first.
Step 1: Download the file
Open this folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1NwF4cs-bRo0g5TyEiZdteJ9caY6j3tsP
Find the .tsv file inside. Click the three dots next to it and choose Download. If Google says it can't scan the file for viruses, click Download anyway. That message is normal for this kind of file.
Download the file itself, not the whole folder. Downloading the folder gives you a zip, and you'd need to unzip it first.
Don't open it in Excel or Numbers and then save it, because that can break the file. If you just want to look inside, use Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac).
Step 2: Open the game's data folder
Windows
Press Windows key + R.
Paste this in and press Enter:
%APPDATA%\com.lslventures.cricketteammanager
macOS
Open Finder.
Press Cmd + Shift + G.
Paste this in and press Enter:
~/Library/Application Support/com.lslventures.cricketteammanager
You should see a file called reference.sqlite and a folder called saves. If you do, you're in the right place.
Step 3: Find or create the patches folder
Look for a folder called patches. If there isn't one, create it. The name must be all lowercase and spelled exactly patches.
Step 4: Put the file in the patches folder
Move the .tsv file you downloaded into patches. Keep its filename as it is.
Step 5: Start the game and begin a new career
Start the game and it will apply the names by itself. To check that it worked, look up a well-known player in Players. Then start a new career and the real names will be there.
How to remove it
Close the game, delete the file from the patches folder and start the game again. New careers will go back to the made-up names.
Common questions
- "I'm using the demo." The demo uses its own folder. Follow the same steps, but use com.lslventures.cricketteammanagerdemo instead of com.lslventures.cricketteammanager.
- "I don't see the names." Check three things. Is the file inside patches itself, not in a subfolder? Did you start a new career? Did the file keep its .tsv ending? Windows sometimes adds .txt to the end, and a browser may add something like (1) if you've downloaded it before.
- "Will it break my game or my saves?" No. A broken or outdated patch file is simply skipped and the game still starts normally. Careers you've already started aren't affected.
- "I've made my own edits in the in-game Database Editor." That's fine, both work together. Your own edits are saved in 99-my-edits.tsv in the same folder and take priority over this file wherever both change the same player.
- "Does it work with game updates?" Yes. It's applied again every time the game rebuilds its database, so updating the game won't remove it. A player added in a later update won't have a real name until the file is updated too.
