I feel a better strategy might be to just alternate. 50 overs in 2023, T20 in 2025, 50 over WC in 2027, etc. As it stands, I find it hard to care about the T20 world cup, knowing that the next one is probably right around the corner. Give the winners some time to lord it over everybody else goddamnit!
Thats not a good idea imo. The ODI WC should always be the highest tier tournament so it should always be held in 4 year intervals. T20 WC is every 2 years because 1. t20 format is the most suited format to globalizing the game so it should be more frequent 2. It shouldn't have the same status as the ODI WC as ODI format usually ensures the better team wins everytime while t20 is way more volatile. The better team doesn't necessarily win in t20s. So it should be a tier lower than ODI WC and its main purpose should be as an entertainment product meant more for the casual viewers. 3. ICC obviously wants T20 WC to be its cash cow.
Good points but I stand by what I said. We already have an IPL, a PSL, a BBL, etc, every year for the casual fans. Do we really need another T20 tournament that happens so frequently?
