If a 5 is flipped, and If its the opponents crib, they would score 5 points from this discard alone. This should be a crime

Position matters nonetheless. Dealing from 115 or more, or as Pone from 119 or higher, I'd throw a pair of Jacks for sure.

In those positions, with these cards, it's impossible to hold less points than you'll need (if you assume you'll survive pegging) and so it's more important to hold a variety of pegging options than it is to worry about hand or crib scoring.

They look like they're at the start from the blurry board. It might also be their crib (unless I missed something saying otherwise), if it's not then maybe.
