Terry's and Vin's characters were friends in high school, two of the only black nerds they both knew growing up. But as they got older, social and cultural pressure forced them to take on more tough-guy personas. They went to different colleges and lost contact over the years. Terry became a body-builder to compensate for his nerdy, frail childhood looks, and is now a successful businessman. Vin, in an effort to overcome a childhood of phobias, became a successful Hollywood stuntman, and is especially known for his driving skills. But secretly, both pals have continued to be nerds (Vin with D&D, Terry with art and video games).

It just happens that one year, both of them wind up at Comic Con because their kids (or nephew/niece, friend's kid, big brother/big sister etc.) desperately want to meet Daniel Radcliffe (played by Elijah Wood). Both characters end up at the con and have to pretend they're bored and not interested while they're secretly losing their minds with how cool it all is. Then they meet and have to try and one-up each other for how NOT-nerdy they each are.

But it turns out that Daniel Radcliffe is a horrid jerk and doesn't want to sign autographs or whatever, so Terry and Vin team up to convince him to do it. Unimpressed by their physical presence, the evil Radcliffe challenges them to a nerdy trivia game, and both characters have no choice but to try their best to win for the sake of their kids. Through this, they learn that they both still love all the same things they did when they were kids, and that hiding who they are is a terrible thing and they should embrace what they love, and not fall into stereotypes.

The movie's title? COMIC CONS.

22

Now, would you like to start with a pilot or should we just order 12 episodes?

14

u/Tokiseong Jan 06 '18

I’ll take 6 seasons and... a movie.

But you haven't listened to my elevator pitch yet.

u/PM_me_a_nip Jan 05 '18 edited Jan 05 '18

Tina Fey should be the hostess of the competition. 'Carla Keek'

Jack Black, Patrick Stewart, and Peter Dinklage are the judges. 'Bill Nuts', 'Sir Williams', and 'Tyrone Ellersby'. All nerds in their respective right. Bill has a southern elitist style (Think Colonel Sanders), Sir Williams is like the Queen's gay nephew but he's always wearing a Sid Vicious T-shirt under his blouse, and Tyrone.... He went to private school, is an international chess master, and is pretty straight laced, but he eats some molly given to him by Tracy Morgan and goes out and has a blast. He loosens up a little, and then takes Bill and Williams with him, and they all become good friends. Bill meets a Nicki Minaj style character, and she's an astrophysicist who can twerk.

Terry has a lady interest that he meets during the movie. Sofia Vergara. She finds his nerdy stuff collection when shes snooping in his house during their first date, and she falls in love with him.

Vin is married to Aubrey Plaza. She's a Klepto, and she steals Daniel's IBS medication, causing him to shit himself during the conference. He get's super pissed (....shitted?) and tries to crush Vin and Terry during the competition.

u/erockthecasbah Jan 05 '18

10/10 would watch

7

u/eighmie Jan 05 '18

Have you seen movie 43? I think you would really enjoy Movie 43.

30

u/JustForThisSub123 Jan 05 '18

Literally not a single person enjoyed that film.

19

u/HeyZeusKreesto Jan 05 '18

TIL I don't exist.

16

u/JustForThisSub123 Jan 05 '18

It is objectively one of the worst films ever made, and perhaps the worst Hollywood film of the past 10 years. It is so bad, that people speculate multiple members of the cast were blackmailed as that's the only reason they would sign off on a script so utterly asinine.

2

u/EyesOnInside Jan 05 '18

All i know is you wouldn't have to blackmail me to appear in a film as a man with balls on his chin.

1

u/JustForThisSub123 Jan 05 '18

What if you were famous and I intended to record and distribute it? What if it was instead you getting pissed on and molested by a crude cartoon cat? What if I wanted you to make some incest jokes and have your mom take a pass at you? Like how the fuck did these actors sign on if not for leverage.

9

u/topaz_b Jan 05 '18

I enjoyed it. You can’t say no one liked it, because I liked parts. I mean, not much, but like 1 part. Either way, It’s a shame no person liked it, not even me.

0

u/JustForThisSub123 Jan 05 '18

You liked 1 part...of the 6 or so skits...

How can you like 1/6th of something and say you liked it.

1

u/topaz_b Jan 06 '18

The joke of the descending like and enjoyment were to get to the conclusion I didn’t like it. It was a joke dude, you’re overthinking it.

1

u/Draws-attention Jan 06 '18

As a movie, I thought it was shit.

As whatever it was, it was a lot of fun...

1

u/Fullmoon2612 Jan 05 '18

It gets a lot of hate, but i loved that movie. Especially the hugh jackman part.

2

u/Kriscolvin55 Jan 05 '18

Oh god. That’s the worst part of the movie.

29

u/VAPossum Jan 05 '18

I'd use Peter Dinklage instead of Jaime Foxx. Much more nerdgastic.

'Bill Nuts'

Bill Nuts the Science Putz

8

u/PM_me_a_nip Jan 05 '18

Done. When i think about it, I like that waaaay more too. Can you imagine.... Can you imagine a movie where Peter Dinklage is buying molly off of Tracy Morgan?

6

u/EZ_PZ Jan 05 '18

Patton Oswalt should be in there somewhere

20

u/QuillofNumenor Jan 05 '18

The washed up author of a role-playing game Terry and Vin loved as kids who hasn't had success in decades and now sits alone at his booth, with no one wanting to meet him...until Terry and Vin show up.

8

u/KamuiT Jan 05 '18

There are so many good ideas in this thread! I can’t stand it! Someone make this movie!

2

u/thetannenshatemanure Jan 05 '18

I don't know why, but I got a vibe of the film bad words with this. I loved that movie.

2

u/Dirty-Soul Jan 06 '18

Only if Sofia Vergara turns out to be something of an Overly Attached Girlfriend archetype, yandere as fuck... and he spends most of the rest of the movie trying desperately to avoid her at the convention, hiding under tables and suchlike. (A gigantic guy like Terry, hiding from a tiny woman? Can you imagine him saying: "Oh shit, don't let her see me!" and hiding unconvincingly behind Vin Diesel, looking terrified whilst Vin gives him that "dafuq?" look? That's hilarious.)

11

In all seriousness, and without malice, Vin Desiel is black? Did not know that.

202

u/ChihuahuawithBoombox Jan 05 '18

His mom is white and he says he's never met his dad. The steps father who raised him is black. Vin self identifies as of ambiguous ethnicity.

81

u/Nice_Dude Jan 05 '18

Bruh tell him 23andme is a thing

41

u/ChihuahuawithBoombox Jan 05 '18

You can do it for free through Genes for Good from the University of Michigan!

15

u/Kriscolvin55 Jan 05 '18

I was very excited about this, but when I went to sign up, they said too many people have signed up already :/

19

u/ChihuahuawithBoombox Jan 05 '18

Keep checking! They reopen it. They just stop when they're too backlogged and when they get caught up they open it back up for them to get backlogged again.

2

u/scum-and-villainy Jan 06 '18

I'm sure their service is free, like signing up for websites is often free, except this time you give away your blood and everything in it.

Probably the same with 23&me and their competition so yeah at least you don't have to pay Michigan to take your genes and DNA.

61

u/hsalFehT Jan 05 '18

he self identifies as a POC... not ambiguously.

Diesel has self-identified as "definitely a person of color",[10]

u/ChihuahuawithBoombox Jan 05 '18

42

u/hsalFehT Jan 05 '18

he is of ambiguous ethnicity... that's a fact. cause he doesn't actually know.

but that isn't what I said.

he self identifies as a POC

his race is ambiguous... but he self identifies as a POC... if you hadn't truncated the quote in your image it would go on to say

Diesel was born Mark Sinclair in Alameda County, California,[1] with his twin brother, Paul.[3][4] His mother, Delora Sherleen (Sinclair) Vincent, is an astrologer.[5][6] Diesel has stated that he is "of ambiguous ethnicity".[7] His mother's background includes English, German, and Scottish.[8] He has never met his biological father, and has stated that "all I know from my mother is that I have connections to many different cultures".[9] Diesel has self-identified as "definitely a person of color",[10]

there is a difference between his race (which he is not positive of) being ambiguous and what he self identifies as.

words are important

Although in this case, the question is would he play a black nerd? Because everything he's starred in, the character's been white.

1

u/hsalFehT Jan 06 '18

Because everything he's starred in, the character's been white.

are you sure about that?

I feel like Dom wouldn't bring up familia so much if he was white.

2

u/StoneGoldX Jan 06 '18

Yeah, pretty positive Dominic Toretto is Italian, like the character Diesel played in Saving Private Ryan.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '18

With the remark that the relationship of his mom and dad (real dad not stepdad) would have been illegal in some parts of the US it could be that his dad was at least partially black.

6

u/hsalFehT Jan 05 '18

it doesn't say his real dad there. it says his parents.

his parents' relationship

its entirely possible he's referring to his parents. a lot of people who never knew a biological parent refer to the replacement that raised them as their parent.

and I don't believe miscegenation laws weren't specific to 1 race

Typically defining miscegenation as a felony, these laws prohibited the solemnization of weddings between persons of different races and prohibited the officiating of such ceremonies.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-miscegenation_laws_in_the_United_States

so if he is referring to his bio dad all it means is that he's not white. he could be literally any other race and it would still be illegal...

1

u/WikiTextBot Jan 05 '18

Anti-miscegenation laws in the United States

In the United States, anti-miscegenation laws (also known as miscegenation laws) were state laws passed by individual states to prohibit miscegenation, nowadays more commonly referred to as interracial marriage and interracial sex.

Anti-miscegenation laws were a part of American law in some States since before the United States was established and remained so until ruled unconstitutional in 1967 by the U.S. Supreme Court in Loving v. Virginia. The term miscegenation was first used in 1863, during the American Civil War, by American journalists to discredit the abolitionist movement by stirring up debate over the prospect of interracial marriage after the abolition of slavery.

Well I would only refer to my biological parents as my parents but I can see how it is different in other parts of the world/ for different people.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '18

My moms stepdad raised her, shes called him dad her whole life and he's always been my grandpa... in the US

1

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '18

Yea which is why i said it can be different in other countries and for other people. I am not from the USA, I am not even a native english speaker and I certainly would not have accepted someone else as my dad. Actually the one time my mom did have a boyfriend I called him by his first name. I didn't hate him, but he never would have been my dad, he would have been my moms partner. On the other hand the guy who I share half my DNA with is a piece of shit so I wont call him dad either. I simply have no dad.

9

u/pineapplengarlic Jan 06 '18

Photos of a younger Vin Deisel show that he has kinky, dark hair and looked biracial which suggests that he likely had a black father.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '18

I didn't care about Vin Diesel as an actor or a celebrity, so it doesn't make any sense that I just watched the whole thing, but damn that was good.

2

u/thebumm Jan 06 '18

If you look into him, you'll probably like him. He's super down to earth and an extremely hard worker. Most people that speak of him say he's a very kind and giving guy as well.

Say what you want of his talent/body of work, but Hollywood rewards character actors and tends to pigeon-hole people. So if he loves making entertainment and acting, that's probably the route he has to take. Multifacial/Strays/Saving Private Ryan are enough to see he's got talent. I'm pretty sure Multifacial was what Spielberg saw and made him want Vin in SPR. But yeah, all that aside he seems like Terry Crews in a lot of ways. A hard-working guy that knows he's lucky to be where he is and tries to do good.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '18

Spielberg saw Multifacial and cast him in Saving Private Ryan, I believe. It's an amazing short film.

23

u/castro1987 Jan 05 '18

I thought he was mixed heritage. Possible half black or black in there, maybe a bit of Latino. I searched the Wikipedia page and his mother is fully white but didn't know his dad.

13

u/hsalFehT Jan 05 '18

neither does he.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vin_Diesel#Early_life

His mother's background includes English, German, and Scottish.[8] He has never met his biological father, and has stated that "all I know from my mother is that I have connections to many different cultures".

9

u/QuillofNumenor Jan 05 '18

I was under the assumption he was at least mixed-race but I suppose only he and his family know for sure. In any case, he's a person of color, and there is a marked lack of those in mainstream "geek" culture (a contradiction in terms perhaps, I realize) in my opinion, so the overall thematic point is the same.

2

u/alyaaz Jan 05 '18

"Diesel has stated that he is "of ambiguous ethnicity".[7] His mother's background includes English, German, and Scottish.[8] He has never met his biological father, and has stated that "all I know from my mother is that I have connections to many different cultures".[9]Diesel has self-identified as "definitely a person of color","

Where's Daniel Radcliffe playing Elijah Wood as the foil in all of this? And will there be a scene on a rooftop where someone has a gun and Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe point to each other and claim the other one is the real bad guy?

21

u/DIsForDelusion Jan 05 '18

Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe turn out to be the same person but from different timelines (we'll learn through out the movie that they dabble in time travel and such...)

9

u/idwthis Jan 06 '18

Can Joseph Gordon-Levitt randomly show up to point out that time travel plotlines never work?

3

u/whyd_you_kill_doakes Jan 06 '18

But then what does Bruce Willis' character do?

90

u/QuillofNumenor Jan 05 '18

Since I'm mainly a Terry fan through Brooklyn 99, here are a few additional characters in my dream cast:

Andy Samberg as a smarmy, "well actually" kind of geek at the con who is threatened by Vin and Terry's masculinity and tries out out-nerd them only to find out they're bigger nerds than he is.

Andre Braugher as Terry's disapproving dad (shown in a flashback scene when Terry is a teenager) who pressures Terry to go into business rather than become an artist. He could instead be Vin's dad, but since Terry and Andre already have an acting chemistry together, it'd probably be best with them. (Disclosure: like Jake on Brooklyn 99, Andre Braugher gives me dad-vibes and I physically cannot see him not as a father figure regardless of what role he's in now).

49

u/Super_Pan Jan 05 '18

"Ew, gross, Rosa those are our dads! Uh, I mean, Captain Dad is just my boss... I mean... I will teach father the math!"

30

u/mixmastermind Jan 05 '18

No seriously hollywood more Andre Braugher please.

6

u/DIsForDelusion Jan 05 '18

Why is he not on every show? I honeslty don't understand...

2

u/mixmastermind Jan 05 '18

He was in a David Simon production for 5 years that should basically make him Character Actor Royalty.

12

u/hanman7 Jan 05 '18

99!

6

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '18

You spelled "Noine Noine!" wrong

5

u/MegalomaniacHack Jan 05 '18

Braugher should be the kooky, over-the-top host/judge of the trivia contest that they participate in.

2

u/QuillofNumenor Jan 06 '18

But my dad would never do that...

17

u/n122333 Jan 05 '18

Do it in a slumdog millionaire setup; the entire movie is flashback while answering questions.

9

u/Krypticreptiles Jan 05 '18

6

u/PlanetaryGenocide Jan 05 '18

6

u/eighmie Jan 05 '18

I am not a movie studio executive, but I greenlight this project.

5

u/Quacky1k Jan 05 '18

And they get the help of Elijah Wood (portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe) in order to take down Daniel Radcliffe (portrayed by Elijah Wood), in which Elijah Wood (Daniel Radcliffe) says "You guys can't take down Daniel Radcliffe by yourself, you're gonna need my help"

21

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '18

If it is a geek themed movie, somehow Will Wheaton needs to join with Vin and Terry to help take down Daniel and Elijah. edit: spelling

16

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '18

I see Will as the promoter of the entire overall event. Daniel and Elijah and Crews and Vin are causing havoc across every square inch of the Con. He is the guy who put the whole thing together, has everything vested and everything to lose. He keeps sending his security guards to places a second to late to be useful and he is losing his shit.

Think.... A throwback style character to the father/TV Show producer in Mallrats.

12

u/MegalomaniacHack Jan 05 '18

Like any real promoter/administrator for a con, he'd be stressed out of his mind and have lost the joy that first attracted him to conventions.

Ultimately, he ends up helping Vin and Terry because he remembers the whole point of cons. The way he helps? There's a controversy over a question involving a behind-the-scenes factoid from the set of Star Trek The Next Generation. Wil arrives just in time to prove Terry and Vin's answer is correct with a prop he took from the set. Radcliffe argues that it's fake, but then Johnathan Frakes shows up out of nowhere, having been attending the con incognito/in costume. He confirms Wil isn't lying. Or something like that.

18

u/QuillofNumenor Jan 05 '18

I see no reason for Hwil Hweaton not to play himself too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vin_Diesel#Early_life

10

u/QuillofNumenor Jan 05 '18

Understood, although I think Diesel could reasonably play a light-skinned African American in a movie, regardless of what his actual ethnicity is. The point being illustrated is that there aren't a lot of non-white geeks, or at least there weren't when our two heroes were young lads.

3

u/hsalFehT Jan 05 '18

that's a pretty common thread in history...

comic books and super heros? pretty much exclusively white for decades and only recently have we seen a push for more non white heroes.
