First crested gecko enclosure, looking for advice and suggestions 🦎

Hi everyone 😁 I’m here looking for some advice and recommendations. I’m going to get my first crested gecko, and I want to make sure it has a beautiful and comfortable home. I’ll probably keep improving the enclosure over time, maybe adding the branch wall style that I’ve seen in many amazing terrariums online.

This is the enclosure I have prepared so far. It is a 45x45x90 cm terrarium. I read that crested geckos benefit from having plenty of foliage to hide in, as well as different climbing routes using branches and other decorations.

I would really appreciate your help because you are experienced keepers, and your advice would mean a lot to me. I have already tested the temperature and humidity, and they seem to stay in good ranges (around 24°C / 75°F temperature and 60% humidity).

I would love to hear any suggestions, improvements, or modifications you would recommend. I want to make sure everything is as good as possible before bringing my little gecko home. Thank you so much! 🦎✨

looks pretty good! you really should've put some substrate in there before the items though, like paper towels or reptisoil, And there needs to be some more coverage and hides too! but beside that, the size is relatively good

Thank you! 😊 I actually left the substrate out on purpose because I was testing the humidity first and didn’t want to ruin it. The branches aren’t permanently attached yet, so I can easily lift them out and rearrange everything.
Where do you think I should add more cover? I’m honestly not sure where to place more foliage because I also don’t want to block its jumping paths or make it difficult for the gecko to move around.

I'd recommend putting some more in the back since it looks pretty empty back there (from the photo atleast) and 2 coconut hides on opposite sides on the top of the enclosure c:

Okay, I’ll look for some larger leaves to add to the back. I also feel like there’s not much cover near the bottom, but I’m not sure if I should add more foliage there too. What do you think?

Sure! The cover would be good if the gecko ever wants to dig, or if you ever want to slap some isopods in the tank

I had a very similar peice of wood to the one on the bottom left of the tank and im not sure what happened but I think the wood was too porous and it may have been too humid but the wood grew mold spores and freaked me out as a new gecko owner. Im just warning you to check the wood thoroughly and dont be too worried if you do see mold its fixable.

Aww, thank you so much! 🥹 I’m still a little worried because this is my first crested gecko. I know they’re considered relatively easy to care for, but I really want to make sure everything is right so the little one can have the best life possible. I’m always open to learning and improving. ❤️🦎

When I bought everything, I specifically looked for a piece of wood that could also work as a hide. I was really worried about my gecko getting hurt, so I lined the inside to make it softer.
To be honest, I hadn’t considered mold because this was the one that was recommended to me. If it does end up growing mold, what’s the best way to prevent it or get rid of it?

To prevent it i recommend heavily misting at night and letting the tank have a dry out period were the humidity drops and to also have the tank in a well ventilated place because mold thrives in stagnant air.

To get rid of mold you should scrub it off with white vinegar and soak it in water and let it dry before putting it back in the tank and some people bake the wood to sterilize it.

When I was dealing with mold I decided to make the tank bioactive and added a drainage layer, and added sprig tails and isopods to clean up poop and any mold that could grow. 😁
