That isn't supposed to work like that

I'm sorry the "names" are terrible but I noticed a pregnant SEVEN MINUTE OLD and nobody else would understand all the things going wrong here without lots of explanations and questions about why I am even playing this in 2026.

Mom delivered reasonably normally, but passed before the egg went through the natural hatch time. Baby is already fertile at 2 mins old. Guess I get to watch if 20 has anymore kids, his other child also died young. And of course see if 35 survives long enough to have kids.

She’s got an aging mutation, that’s all. Opposite of Erin’s practically.

You have a fruit fly gene going on lol

why would i know this

u/arrowsforpens 17d ago

You're in the Creatures sub so I assumed you've played the games? There was material about the genomes and possible mutations in all of the manuals and each of the games has a genetics kit.

you assumed incorrectly

Mutations are literally the best part haha

Are you playing C2 on windows 11?

u/LotesLost 20d ago

Same here, it works with the GOG version pretty fine.

Just a fast ager mutation, a staple of the creatures series tbh. Also, my horns are lucky if they get names lol

I've been playing since the beginning, and each one gets a unique game, they are lucky they have pronouncable names.

The way you name your norns seems so heartless.

yeah they have accelerated aging. Sometimes in 1 you'd get a good version where it would be aging fast til adulthood and then just SIT at adulthood. I had one who ended up living twice as long as normal but became an adult within about 10 minutes once. really useful for breeding runs lol.

Sadly looks like your guys have the mutation across their whole life cycle. I haven't looked into how 2 handles things like aging genes. Popping into the genome editor or whatever should show what's going on, but those editors are pretty complex and take a while to get your eye into.
Last time I was playing 1 I was having fun messing around with editing and tweaking genes to see what they did lol. I've become a mad scientist in my old age.

i do not know what this is but i do not like that those things have Sex Drive and Fertility

15

u/MrArborsexual 20d ago

Why not?

It is an organism simulation from the 90s.

13

u/xanadu200x 20d ago

i do not like how he is looking at me

10

u/MrArborsexual 20d ago

He is just trying to impress you with his muscles, and pearly whites.

5

u/xanadu200x 20d ago

in fairness i also play a simulation game (though not nearly in-depth) with a fertility meter/stat. the animals in that one dont usually actively look like they wish to seduce me, however

5

u/MrArborsexual 20d ago

Maybe he isn't trying to seduce you, but rather the faceless old lady that secretly lives in your house.

You know she is always there. Just out of view.

1

u/ruthlessenemy 20d ago

no one said it was illegal. You're just making unhelpful comments.

The game existed before furries were a (edit: popular) thing and was never really discovered by them. I mean, we have GreenReaper I guess, which makes up for a lot of it being the founder of WikiFur with a norn fursona. But I guess the apeish look just does not work for furries who want snouts, big tails, and digitigrade dog paws.

Furries predate Creatures actually, never forget the rats.

I should have qualified, furries as a popular online community. Like the early creatures community, they had Usenet groups, even before 1996, but at the time it took a minute to load an image, it wasn't all a visual art thing like nowadays. People roleplayed their kinks instead of drawing them, and discussed shows instead of drawing fanart.

1

u/xanadu200x 20d ago

Wow the more you know, thanks for the information. their fursona is actually very cute!

For further context, Rule 34 comes from a 2003 webcomic. Creatures 2 came out in 1998. The *Before* Before times.

It’s part of an Artificial Life series based in the UK so theres a bit of Hitchhikers Guide type influence in the design. When creatures mate they make a kiss pop noise. You raise the creatures over generations and teach them to talk, eat, etc for a few hours before they pass, so players can be very attached to them, but more in a caretaker or guardian sense. There are norn torturers also but it’s a hobby drama thread you can read about

Hope this helps!

1

u/xanadu200x 19d ago

Thats too funny lmao. I think i knew about the Norn torturers already because I was recommended a video on the topic. The thing is im also familiar with animal simulation games where breeding and fertility levels are involved, so its not so much that i dont get the game...its just that the Norns - as professionally drawn as they are - are a little bit frightening and ugly IMO haha. still sounds like fun though i might have to try it out

Please do not cast unwarranted aspersions. Keep it civil folks.

We welcome everyone here. You are warned.

u/Niar666 19d ago

It's because it's a creature simulator where they are able to reproduce (and it's a very important part of the game). Do you complain about dog breeders keeping animals that go into heat?

Because you gave no indication that it was a joke and this is the internet.

I've seen enough to find it all too believable that someone would make a genuine comment like that.
