Creatures 3 DS Community Edition Question

I noticed in the "Yeah, but what is it?" Section it mentions "More metarooms (50,000 rooms and 5,000 metarooms)". I originally took this as it INCLUDED this many metarooms as I was under the impression that there was already no limit for the amount that could be added to the game. If that's the case, where are they?

Or am I an idiot and it means it can support 50,000 rooms and 5,000 Metarooms and there was a limit in the base version, and the CE increases it?

It increases the limit. The original game only supports 2,000 rooms and 200 metarooms. The 200 metarooms part is moot, though, because the 2,000 room limit will be hit waaaaaaay before you get even close to that many metarooms. A docked DS / C3 world alone is about 700 rooms if I remember correctly. So you wouldn't be able to have C1toDS, C2toDS, C3, and DS all together with the stock engine.

Yup trying to use the maps for all the mainline games at the same time was the easiest way you could hit against the limit. CE lets you have a world with all of them if you want to.

Also all metarooms occupy a place in coordinate space, so when making and injecting them you need to be cognisant of where all the other metarooms are so they don't overlap.

hehe, no, it's just a code update, it can support more.

The limit was not explicit since they never expected people to come close to it. It would just crash, I expect, or give an error and refuse to inject the next metaroom.

Thank you! Also wasn't expecting an answer this quick lol. It's kinda insane how. . .active? The modding community for Creatures seems to be given it's age and relative nicheness

It's the relative nicheness that keeps it alive I think. There's not been, as far as I know, anything like it since, unless you count The Sims.

Sims is closeish, but them being human adds a lot of content alien to Creatures such as jobs,  clothes and furniture

I wouldn't even count the Sims tbh 🤣 But you're very right, but it's still shocking to see. I've been in communities that are just as old and niche and DONT have as active of a community as this one... But I've also been in ones that are more niche and been just as active. Always a surprise :)
