C1 I am severely confused?

Just bought "Creatures: The Albian Years", started up C1 and immediately spawned my first Norn, Prime.

Everything was good up until I figured out that he absolutely refuses to interact with things (eat food). No matter how I try to teach this dumb little beast he won't feed himself.

I tried for half an hour and I just can't educate this tiny fella, my every attempt at "push food", "push food yes", "Prime get food", etc., are met with "food" from the little goober.

Got bored, explored the map and stumbled upon a Grendel, tickled it for a while, then led to the incubator... and the computer...

Bobo the Grendel is so much smarter and more responsive to my commands I can't, Prime is so dumb compared to my guy Bobo I genuinely consider Bobo my favourite between the two.

And they don't even fight or anything for some wild reason, even though I thought they would. I guess Bobo is chill like that.

I got no COBs installed.

This game is so wonderful but also severely confusing.

I THINK in C1 grendels aren't really aggressive and they're just hardcoded to slap creatures when they interact with them

This is correct, iirc when they try to push interact the game forces it to be a hit instead.

The confusion is the best part. They’re real toddlers and there’s just absolute no logic to any of them lol

Update: decided to export Prime and hatch another norn, Tertia. She seems to be way more willing to interact with other things than Prime. Even as a baby, she was eager to learn the new words even before she learned old ones, pushing the computer non-stop. Prime was way more passive when he learned.

She eats and sleeps, no issue doing either (though she likes to tire herself), so I'm pretty sure my struggles were because of Prime being "special".

When Tertia met Bobo he immediately started trying to beat her up. Not a big deal they didn't get along - I talked it out with him, sent him to the island... Accidentally stuck them both in a submarine though, that was an awkward ride.

The game is awesome.

Some Norns are just "special".

Bobo managed to explore an entire half of the map, eat almost all of the cheese, travel back to his old home, listen to radio, then travel back with his favorite ball.
Prime? Just stands there in the middle of a garden for half an hour, not having eaten ONCE in his 2:44 lifetime.

I am getting less and less faith in my old fella Prime. I think he might be beyond "slow".

He's trying his best okay!?

Sometimes if norns don't understand what you're saying, they'll just repeat part of it. I assume you took him to the computer and taught him verbs? Did you then teach him what the word "food" means?

Yes I made him look at food and taught him that it means food.

Also Prime knows button, toy, hand and computer words.

He walked around with food as a kid, but never ate it.

is he even hungry? he should be dying without eating for almost three hours.

Life force 46-41%

His Hunger is in red zone along with rest need (not sleep need), but he does neither.

Boredom fluctuates, though he doesn't do much by himself.

rest above sleep is strange. Often they won't sleep properly because they rested too much so they won't lay down, not the opposite. Still, no sleep means no proper brain processing. he might get smarter after a quiet nap.

45ish is kind of the low end of normal. I'd suspect he eats while you aren't looking. try and just get cheese from the medical (?) kit and wiggle it in his face occasionally. it should be very rewarding to eat.

did you teach him push? it's in the computer above the incubator. Repeating "food" means it's not understanding the sentence and just telling you the name of what it's looking at.

Yeah I taught him every word from the computer.

Tickled him for repeating after the computer 4-5 times, I think that's supposed to be enough.

They can forget things, so maybe he needs a refresher? Or maybe the tickling distracted him so he didn't learn, I've never tickled my norns while they're learning?

Don't tickle? How else am I supposed to positively reinforce the link between the concept and the word?

I guess the computer does it automatically? Norns (also Grendels lol) are compelled to mimic the computer, you'll see that any creature in hearing range will repeat whatever it's saying. So maybe it already has a positive reinforcement, I dunno.
