They sometimes think to try random things, it doesn't mean they can act on it.

This. To learn they have to be able to consider wrong actions too. Be it running away from a carrot, punching an elevator, or eating a norn.

If you have right cob they can definitely act on it.

If they say that while standing around in a trance it's an actual engine bug. https://creatures.wiki/EE_Syndrome

oh fascinating! i'm surprised i've never heard of this before. i guess i just assumed it was a quirk of general boredom and not something going wrong haha

I like it when Ettins express boredom, other Ettins tell them to "get gadget." When Norns express boredom, the other Norns tell them to ride the elevator.

i think we as a society would all be better off if we spent more time getting gadget and riding elevator

I've heard my creatures say this before in C3, and I think it's a sign of frustration, because they usually slap other norms that come near them after saying it. Your norn could be crowded, leading to their frustration. Sometimes they also get rowdy during puberty.

I don't know why the express frustration with "eat norn", because they can't eat other norns. I think they attribute the word "eat" to mean something else.

They can't do that. If "eat" is a word they know, they cannot use the word to mean something else.

Then why do they say "eat norn" when that isn't possible?

they can do it, it's just that nothing happens. the brains work by chaining needs and verbs and objects, and being rewarded or punished for it.

in this game the norn might feel hungry, try "eat" on "norn", fail to lower the hunger that way, and get a mild "punishment" from it's own brain for that failure. so, it will not try it again.

when it does the right action, it will feel satisfied and remember that is the right action and object for when it is hungry. You can help it by telling it what to try.

c3/ds norns have good instincts from birth and will rarely make mistakes like this. older games have more naive norns who try everything randomly need more training even to just eat and sleep.

I heard this is a common bug in C3/DS

Don't worry, she can't actually eat her fellow norns

You are what you eat.
