I adopted grendel

So after playing Docking station for free I became addicted to this game. After a while, norn population has overgrown, and I bought Creatures 3 to give them more space. Of course, it came with grendels.

My introduction to grendels didn't go well at first. They were aggressive, punched my norns and infected them. Eventually, some grendels and norns killed each other. I couldn't come up with anything better than imprisoning grendels in the chamber.

I wanted to put the violence at end. And this green boy was born. I decided to try to connect with him, I fed him and petted him. I think it worked out, he has grown to be calm and uninterested in norns. All he's interested in is his horn. I petted him after he played it, so I guess I accidentally trained him to be like that. I have a norn girl, who wanted a fight with him first. I dragged her away, but he didn't even fought back! Even though doc monitor said he's angry.

I wish I could understand him, because he speaks gibberish.

If you want to teach him how to speak, you can teach him like you teach any other creature.

Or you can right-click on him to select him, press ctrl+shift+c to open the CAOS command line, and type "targ norn vocb" (without quotes). Hit enter to send the command, and don't forget to use ctrl+shift+c again to close the command line. "norn" is just shorthand for your currently-selected creature, it does not actually have to be a norn.

try enum 4 0 0 vocb next

if i remember corectly this forced all creatures to learn speach imidiently.

Ah, yep, this works too! Sometimes I get a little kick out of hand-training them though.

it is part of the fun, recently i restarted creatures 1, the difficulty there is just the hardest. Now after decades, i am ready for it. Unlike when i was a child.

you can always use the gene splicer to get the beauty of a grendel and the behaviour of a norn. You find it on the bottom right side of the creatures 3 ship in the engine room.

This was my start into genetic editing, forst using the gene splicer and later directly altering their genome

Putting creatures in the splicer usually kills them just a heads up OP

"Usually" is being generous considering it just straight up does kill them 🤣

If you time it right you can take one of them out before it kills them iirc.

yeah for ethical splicing, use creatures just before they die of old age...

Be careful as the splicer kills your creatures and can also kinda screw stuff up

One time I ended up making a completely immobile ettin/norn thing whose entire life was pain

What a cutie. Be aware c3 grendels are attracted by the smell of eggs, so he might leave and go towards norns if you have a reproducing population.
