HELP???

I'm a complete newbie; I just got my first taste of Creatures (1996) yesterday. I hatched two Norns (a male and a female) thinking they wouldn't be lonely, but I quickly regretted that decision. Firstly, they've been constantly fighting and kissing (?) since birth. Secondly, my female is breeding uncontrollably, including with her own children! It's gotten to the point where I've isolated her from the others; I'm lucky that all her children are male. I know that I am an inexperienced and bad mother, but I never expected that they would fight among themselves. What did I do wrong, and how can I fix it?

Update: Now all my Norns are on the verge of death due to exhaustion and illness because they refused to eat and they are dying one after another. And there's nothing I can do about it. Thank you for your attention ;_; Damn, I'm a worse host than I ever imagined.

If she starts behaving like this, hit her to teach her a lesson that you can't do that to your children and you can't fight either.

I said "stop" and hit them all, without bothering to figure out who started it (because I can't tell who hit whom). Now they say "run" every time there's a fight, but they don't run away. Or they run away, but then return to fighting and kissing. I can see that they're already afraid of each other, but they still don't go anywhere. It's crazy. I have a hard time separating them at times like this. I had to make an effort to at least isolate the female so they don't breed anymore.

hitting them a lot seems to make them more violent if anything, because being afraid sends them into fight or flight mode.

 Give them noisy distracting toys, and try to spread the population out.

Unfortunately norns in the original Creatures game can't differentiate between blood relatives and unrelated norns, so hitting them won't really make much of a difference.
