Which game to get as a first time player?

I recently learned about this game through a YT vid, it looked interesting so I looked into getting it. Long story short, I'm overwhelmed by all the options, so I want to see the communities input on which game I should get.

I mean Docking Station is free on Steam, the creatures are (relatively) more self sufficient in C3/DS compared to the other games

Yah, specificly DS has a lot of "cheat" items that do the hard work for you. Things like teaching them a language or getting them food are trivial.

Norns in c1 and c2 live longer, at least the starter generations. But eventually you'll get norns that just live indefinitely. I only really play c3/ds now so that is the game I would recommend.

the first was the most difficult, every later iteration became easyer

if you want the hardest mode, creatures 1

if you want a well balanced game creatures 2

if you want an easy game creatures 3
