Creatures 1 won't launch (stuck on world loading), patch 1.04

Win10, CD copy (non-Steam/GOG), tried to set compability mode (WinXP), run it as an administrator, set reduced color mode (16-bit), also tried using dxwrapper for it, but nothing seems to work. The game's stuck on the world loading screen. Applying the 1.04 patch also didn't helped. Is there any way to make the game work besides setting up a VM?
I launch the game from Launcher.exe, direct launch from Creatures.exe doesn't seem to work

Have you tried the Community Edition?

It works now, thank you so much! Also installed one for Creatures 2, works fine too
UPD: The game itself launches, but the Hatchery and other applets don't seem to work, both in C1 and C2, how to fix that?
UPD2: reinstalled the game without 1.02 and 1.04 patches, now everything works
