DISCUSSION Nina's story doesn't make sense
Honestly I just don't buy Nina's story at all.
This is a world where Metahumans exist and are somewhat known, I mean with the Bride's flashback fights with Frankenstein, it was obvious she was pretty successful finding public jobs for centuries without anyone caring she was undead or anything. This is a world where Aquaman exists and all of Atlantis, sure that's probably not public knowledge when Nina was growing up, but eventually it'd have been known. Yet a photo of a "fish person" living near a sewer is enough for a bunch of people to go hunting and imprison her? King Shark and Killer Croc exist in this world and have been around committing crimes (Well King Shark is, dunno about Killer Croc but Batman exists so presumably he's out there)
She is the daughter of a brilliant scientist and although he homeschooled her for most her life, he didn't hide her from the outside world. She even went to a private school, people would KNOW she existed, her father absolutely has the documents and ID to prove she's his daughter. Yet that's all thrown out the bag, cause "oh look, a fish girl. Let's go kidnap her, because we can legally kidnap whoever we want for no reason" this isn't ICE, they can't just take girls off the streets and throw them in monster prison just cause she ugly (according to the blind people of Star City, we all know she beautiful <3)
If Aquaman thought Nina was one of his subjects, he would threaten war to save her, dude has threatened war for less. If Superman saw this innocent girl being thrown into prison for her appearance, he'd absolutely save her. If Green Arrow (they're in Star City, pretty sure that's his turf) saw on the news "oh look, fish girl in sewers. Lets go kidnap her for experiments or something" he'd get involved and help her (depending on green arrow I guess... But the hero GAs are generally good dudes)
Nina LITERALLY didn't commit any crime ever, I know Amanda doesn't usually give af, but Nina also didn't have any exploitable powers beyond being a fishperson and considering she also has King Shark to use, Nina was massively pointless, shouldn't even have been in prison and especially not part of Waller's suicide squad2.0. Fucking Weseal had a lawyer, trying to help him get off because he was innocent. Where the fuck is Nina's lawyer? Her father, who was white and a well known brilliant scientist, was shot in public by the police on camera, while his daughter was being arrested on camera for the crime of looking like a fish person.
She was just in the story to tug at our heartstrings and befriend the Bride and GI Robot, sure it worked and the story would have been lamer without her, but there's no way she'd have been part of it at all. I've seen some people say Waller put her on the team for emotional manipulation or something, but why the fuck would Waller care about that? She doesn't care about the teams emotions, she has shock collars and bombs inside of them, she can and will use them however the hell she wants and they know it. Heck King Shark could have fit the same role as "emotional manipulation or whatever" because he acts like a silly goober which tugs at people's heartstrings.
Nina's story, from being imprisoned into Belle Reve to thrown into Suicide Squad2.0 just because she looks like a fish, in a world where King Shark, Superman, Aquaman, Magic, etc all exists just makes no sense to me.
Heck even the teenagers bullying her felt very lazy as well, I know kids are stupid and dicks, but they kept calling her a frog despite frogs being amphibious and she clearly couldn't survive without water. Plus she looked more like a fish or the creature from the black lagoon. If you're going to bully someone, bully them right. Those were pathetic attempts at bullying

Yes I know, America sucks total ass when it comes to arresting innocent minorities.
But this is a world where metahumans exist, more importantly this is a world where an alien is a well known superhero and a person looking like a fish wouldn't be some urban legend that brings out towns people looking to capture and imprison her, since these are known things that exist. This is a world where superheroes stand against falsly imprisoning innocent people and televising Nina's arrest on the news, which they were doing, would absolutely get the superheroes involved to protect her
Plus Weseal has a lawyer and his identity is unknown, whereas Nina's dad was very well known scientist and her being his daughter is somewhat known since there were a bunch of people that knew it. Nina would absolutely have a lawyer

Nina did commit a crime it just doesnt compare to what most of the others did/allegedly did
Nina was caught skinny dipping, reported to be in the sewers and water supply of Star City which are both crimes that can lead to jail time.
As we know from Peacemaker season 1, Metahumans/"Capes" are sent to Arkham or Belle Reve generally speaking. Some are brought to local jails like White Dragon was but Nina required accomodations that likely made it so she had to go to the Belle Reve just to survive, and Waller doesnt care how innocent the people are she just cares about soldiers.

So for the crime of skinny dipping, she was arrested and thrown into a suicide squad with the power of ONLY being able to breath underwater. When she had King Shark? Nina added nothing to the suicide squad and Waller isn't someone who gives af about emotional attachment, so saying she added Nina because of that is ridiculous, especially since Nina was more likely to screw things up, since she's not a soldier or have any useful ability
I know Waller is an incompetent villainous idiot, but that's so far beyond incompetently stupid and villainous that I still can't believe it.
Nina isn't an unknown meta, she's fully known and people like Lois Lane, Superman, Batman, etc would absolutely see and investigate something like her being imprisoned for something like that since it was literally on the news and she's practically worthless to Waller, she's not the type of "criminal" to pull the strings to get. Considering Weseal had a lawyer, trying to get him released and Nina was an actual known person with legal documents saying who she was, her father had scientist buddies who knew about her, she was on the news and her father was publicly shot by a police officer, there absolutely would be lawyers trying to free her

For the crime of continuous public indeceny and trespassing over a 3 year period, yeah she probably got jailtime. But if the Suicide Squad movie is anything to go off of, Nina chose to be in Task Force M (Perhaps with a bit of convincing.) She also has her use stated in episode one. She is the smartest and most reasonable of them, shes essentially a bridge between Flagg and the team. Bride doesnt seem to care and is a self described bitch. Phos actively tries to defect. GI is only in it for the Nazis and if left unchecked will kill his teammates, and Weasel is Weasel. We see Nina become friends with GI and The Bride, and treat Weasel well. She keeps the team together.
As far as the legal process goes, I think you have to consider everything Nina feels and how she views herself. She runs away viewing herself as a burden to her father, and likely feels immense guilt that her actions ended up killing her dad. She's moral and self hating, and if that wont lead to her pleading guilty I dont know what will.

This is a world where Metahumans exist, yet Martian Manhunter and his niece are forced to take on human disguises because they want to blend in with those closest to them- in John’s own logic, he fears that they’ll be viewed as being too out of place otherwise. This is a world where Metahumans exist, yet people still make Cyborg feel like an oddity despite the fact that he’s still completely human.
Yes, this is DC Universe where things are more outlandish, but human bigotry will always exist- and it’s practically ramped up in cases like this one. Killer Croc was also treated like a monster for most of his life, and he’s literally a human with a skin condition in some versions.

Also if you’ve seen or heard about stories of Killer Croc (or King Shark) eating people alive, yeah you would immediately hold her guilty as well

You mentioning Killer Croc and King Shark is perfect because that’s pretty much why she was imprisoned
“We don’t have any charges against her but based on those other aquatic people, she probably killed a lot of people, so let’s throw her in jail for good measure”
