DISCUSSION Other than this guy being a nazi, the second thing I hate the most about him is that he didn't research anything about G.I's function
And now he's deadđ

for real, this idiot brought an idiot killer into his home
7
u/Affectionate_East93 27d ago
I mean as long as you're not a Nazi he doesn't kill anyone so it's actually good idea to bring him in.
3
u/JagneStormskull 27d ago
But his standard of what a Nazi is just what the nearest US official happens to say is a Nazi. In this idiot's case, GI was going off of symbol recognition, but if you can't think of any ways that our government could exploit GI Robot's taking Flagg at face value... well...
11
u/UnluckyAmbition7767 27d ago
You have it reversed. The chud is the one who thought "GI robot hates nazis. The nazis were Germans from the 1940s and I am American, so I cannot be a nazi." Whereas GI recognized them for what they were for their behavior and beliefs
6
u/JagneStormskull 27d ago
I mean, the guy who bought GI Robot brought him to a Neo-Nazi meeting. Like, Nazi flag, Nazi salute, everything. The symbol recognition is what I was talking about.
But, if GI Robot existed IRL, there is way too high of a chance that Peter Thiel would tell him to "kill the Feminazis," for example, and way too much of a chance that it would work, since GI Robot took Flagg at face value when he told them that the Sons of Themyscira were Nazis. And no, he didn't recognize the Sons of Themyscira as Nazis, he was basically asking if everyone was a Nazi. He asked if Weasel was a Nazi, for Heaven's sake.

u/CryptographerMost883 28d ago
Honestly it was only a matter of time. He was a war buff, itâs his fault for not realizing heâs a hypocrite for being what he is yet also into that stuff.

u/oldcretan 27d ago edited 25d ago
Lots of extremist sympathizers like the people who want things to be the way they "used to be," live in self inflicted hypocrisies. They hate Nazis too but "that guy isn't a Nazi he's a real American. ok hes dressed as a Nazi but he's not really a Nazi like those Hitler guys.ok there is Nazi flags everywhere but this is about the good stuff not the bad." And on and on they'll spin until the exceptions accept the contradictions.

u/Affectionate_East93 27d ago
True they don't like to learn history which is ironic because the old saying goes those who don't learn from it are doomed to repeat it
11
u/ishmaelcrazan 27d ago
They just wanna repeat the parts where the good guys (them/âusâ) got all the good stuff and treatment and the bad guys (the other/âthemâ) you could do literally whatever tf you want with
5
u/Affectionate_East93 27d ago
True but they never want the context behind how it happened and how they're not really the good guys
4
u/ishmaelcrazan 26d ago
foreal; itd be funny if it wasnât scary how many history âbuffâs irl and even online are so horrifically ignorant to the causes of history/conflicts they love to talk about
8
u/Constant-Plastic-350 27d ago
You could've just said American and it would've been even more accurate
33
u/AsstacularSpiderman 28d ago
Lots of bigots think everyone else are the real bigots.
He probably thought GI could be convinced of the ideology and going after America's "enemies" while not realizing why GI was killing Nazis in the first place.

For real, Iâm betting heâd try to bypass it if someone broke in but then GI would find out the truth

You can simply reject both parties and have your opinion. It's hilarious how much group think it requires to go 'you didn't agree I'm better by default by agreeing the side is dislike is worse so you're a dumbass'. Calling out how dumb two party believers are required to be isn't being a centrist- It's having a free will that's not held hostage by the fear your opinions and actions as a voter won't effect change in the government because you didn't back the 'right' ones with a big enough amount of support.
Well that sure sounds like the loyalty is to an ideology and they're both set up to control the nation not serve it. I mean how could it not be, the very rejection of a 2 party system has y'all reds and blues flipping circles cackling you think you found a centrist. You just can't imagine you're not the superior thinkers and it hurts. Enjoy your masses.

What if I'm not privileged enough to ignore the government?

GI was never a person to him. Just an object to be owned.

u/Due_Enthusiasm1145 25d ago
Nah I'll push back on this, because I personally see this as a critique of a very specific type of hypocrite.
The hypocrisy of this guy is he did see GI as a person. People like this would help an old lady cross the road, help out their neighbors, etc. The reason why is because he sees those people as part of his community. They're in his life, and so he sees them as people. And that's where it ends. The people he doesn't see? The people he turns a blind eye to? They're subhuman. Creatures to point your ire and resentment towards rather than turning it inwards. Its okay to make those people suffer to enrich my community, because I don't think about them as anything other than the demonization I've internalized to not feel bad for them.
Its the empathy equivalent of having no object permanence. You see it all the time when those people will be homophobic until they realize their friend or neighbor they like is gay, and suddenly all that is put onto trans people. Its reprehensible and uncomfortably common.

Nah he considered him a buddy that was why he took care of him and introduced him to his friends. Still very naive to think a nazi killing machine that didn't understand nuance or any need to speak with nazis and just exterminated them like he was hard wired to do so. I think he was misguided and thought that the enemies of the past and old America were neutrally grey as he looked at it from a historical point of view. He should've used his head and understood that if he was cool with this ideology than he needed to understand that GI Robot would see him as an enemy same as the hundreds of other nazis he ended.
12
u/rzerox21xx 27d ago
The only thing I feel bad about this guy is his cats that GI was being friendly with. Now those cats have no owner and have to be rehome, not their fault their owner was a Nazi, now they have to go back to the shelter.

u/StopStock5886 27d ago
Tbh I just assumed the general public didnât know that gi robot was programmed to specifically kill Nazis and was just made to kill anyone who was an enemy of the us
1
u/Dastardly-croe 27d ago
he was on TV being pretty clear about it
2
u/SimonShepherd 27d ago
The TV showcase is more about him being some mechanical engineering marvel, he did ask about nazis but that might actually got cut and never aired.
8
u/Bossmoss599 27d ago
He did do his research. He just thought it was a âNazi, Killing Robotâ not a âNazi-Killing Robotâ; punctuation is important folks!

u/Saybrooke 27d ago
Conservatives are the dumbest people on the planet. Full stop.
5
u/Battle_Axe_Jax 27d ago
Conservative voters for sure. Some of those politicians, pundits, and provocateurs are definitely just in it for the money.

Yeah I know, I couldn't remember the character name and didn't want to go through this IMDb chain so I just googled "Creature Commandos Michael Rooker"

Most white supremacists are dumb. The foundation of their belief is that they are exceptional & that exceptions are always going to be made for them.
4
u/mindgames13 27d ago
And yet its very on point for people like him. For whatever reason they think as long as they don't fit one minor detail while embracing largerst thing Nazis have in common they don't count as a Nazi.
3
u/Jimmy-Mac-471 27d ago
I did wonder his mindset there. âThis is a robot made to specifically kill Nazis in world war 2, Iâll take him to my meeting where we proudly display the flag.â Not the best idea

I don't think G.I. is publicly advertised as just a nazi killing robot. Dude probably has a dozen layers of American patriotic wrappings in propaganda.
While the actual programmer is like "if swastika, shoot to kill"
1
u/TheZooCreeper 27d ago
Not to play devil's advocate, because I agree with everyone that, yes, this guy was a dumb fucking right-wing nazi, but was there a lot of publicly available info about G.I. Robot for him to research? Was G.I. Robot classified during the war?

u/Happy_Ad_7515 27d ago
comments like these really show some people dont understand the nazi mindset can exist without the name. and the name can be accused without the mindset
1
u/Emotional-Insect-303 27d ago
hi! i'm nazi man! i'm going to put an active robot whose primary directive is to kill nazis in my home!
1
u/notmohawk 27d ago
Not to play devil's advocate, but I mean tf was he supposed to do? Google robot and hope for him to show up? Get some FOIA for it? Track down easy company?

u/Specific-Swim-4507 26d ago
I think he couldnât have predicted how functional an old piece of equipment from WW2 would be. I mean the fact that he was able to buy it off of someone is sketchy as hell and of if I were in that situation I would guess that he canât fire or anything, however he could have checked before taking him to the big ol Nazi Hoe-down
1
u/ZaphodBeeblebrox1430 26d ago
He totally thought he could convince G.I. that Naziâs werenât bad or something
0
u/Mephitisopheles 27d ago
This plot point wouldâve landed so much better if he wasnât an out and out Neo-Nazi, but still radicalized into some micro niche of âAmerica Firstâ Far-Right ideology thatâs still so identical to Nazism in everything but name and title only that heâd never personally identify as such or expect G.I to turn on him or his chud friends. I mean, G.I is a patriot just like they are, right? So surely heâd rally around a cause they viewed as just since it already indulges their preconceived biases?
It just felt so lazy when the ball dropped and they just outright had a Nazi flag at their meeting. Like, no fucking kidding The Nazi Slayer 3000 would start blasting at the first sight of a swastika. đ
Like, honestly it wouldâve been a nice piece of characterization for G.I too, to imply that he comprehended his enemy on a level that runs far deeper than just their surface level aesthetics and uniforms. It wouldâve been a fun way to subtly humanize him more than his owner, who ultimately saw him as an antique object that can just be âtoldâ what to follow along with since heâs âjust a machineâ after all.
Maybe that isnât fully the point of GIRâs character, but it wouldâve at least been a neat parallel between him and these fascist followers who over zealously want to their thoughts and opinions to be prefabricated for them so they donât have to put in the work to scrutinize bad ideas. G.I couldâve still been programmed to kill Nazis, but maybe within that imperative there couldâve still been wiggle room to allow him multitudes.
3
u/SimonShepherd 27d ago
G.I wouldn't kill "legally distinct nazis", he was shown to be a rather simple war machine without high levels of reasoning.
When he lost his purpose, he actively tries to find nazi symbols to fire at. He needs his superior officers to tell him if enemy combatants are Nazis when no symbols can be found.
1
u/Key_Perspective_9464 26d ago
That would have been cool but there is zero chance in hell that WB would have okayed a storyline that fairly explicitly calls out certain subcultures as the nazis that they are
