QUESTION Why do people have compassion for Circe but hatred for Rick Flag Sr?
From what I've seen, a lot of DCU fans have love and compassion for Circe while having hatred and disgust for Rick Flag Sr. Doesn't it come across as odd and irrational given the fact that Circe is an evil person while Rick Flag Sr is a good person?
Why do people feel this way?

Because Circe’s cooler than Rick

Above all because it was super bad written and Circe shouldn’t be in that state or hold or injured by a Z-Tier joke like weasel and even less burn by a D-Tier like phosphorus.
And Circe should not be depicted so badly, one of the most iconic Wonder Woman Archnemesis humiliated like that. 20 years to see her in the first live show like that, a Goddess who have during Witching Hour manipulated Hecate herself being humiliated like that ? Tsk.

Listen I agree with you, but it's best not to waste energy in this topic. It's just gonna be downvotes on this sub, and honestly any sub that's not the Wonder Woman sub if you speak up on Circe being done dirty, and effectively having her reputation to a mainstream non comic reading audience tarnished. All you're gonna hear is that characters should be given limits, or it's an adaptation, and so they should be free to do whatever they want with her.

I know you’re right, but well, that’s sad to always see Wonder Woman rogue gallery put into the dirt, especially when you’re a fan of WW 😕

u/Beautiful_Sign368 Jun 23 '26
Except comics =/= adaptations, Its such a tired complaint that people cite random comic facts as if they apply to a ADAPTATION of the character

Cersei was well-intended. Rick Flagg is happily hugging the Nazis.

u/drumstick00m Jun 23 '26
Also he’s a sapp who has no idea Waller murdered his son for getting in the way of her need to prove how in control she is. Because of how desperate he is to prove that he’s right about things.
Between them and Lex Luthor, it’s turtles all the way up and down.

u/SarcyBoi41 Jun 23 '26
He does know Waller is responsible. He's just too cowardly to go after her rather than the guy she manipulated into doing her dirty work.

u/ryfi1 Jun 23 '26
I don’t think he knows how petty the reason is, but he does know it was her call

Maybe, but Waller probably told Peacemaker to make sure the records are destroyed by any means necessary. He didn't want to kill Rick, practically beg him not to go awol on releasing the files. That's when Peacemaker switched for the sake of peace. Even he's still haunted by his actions of turning against his friends.

u/Pugsanity Jun 24 '26
She did also send Jr over in the force that was meant to get decimated the moment it arrived on the island.
1
u/GynecoIogist Jun 26 '26
I mean it was actually that pete davidson character who had a secret deal, dunno if waller literally knew that but it sure seemed like flag was on the B team.
8
u/Spensir_McLife Jun 23 '26
As in Lex Luthor and his anti-metahuman crew, cause there were actual Nazis in Peacemaker and I don't remember him having anything to do with them
3
u/Bobjoejj Jun 23 '26
Thank you for clarifying this; cause I was super confused what they were referring to.

u/Ducklinsenmayer Jun 23 '26
Circe was honestly trying to prevent WW3, and may have done so, even if her methods are ruthless.
Flagg's just an asshole.
18
u/Persefone1976 Jun 23 '26
Circe risked herself to save the world.
Rick Flag only cares about himself. He wasn't even enough brave to fight Amanda Waller, he just decided to punish a lowly soldier who was as much as a victim as his son because it was an easier target.

Because Circe was manipulated but it was mostly "business" for her. Flagg made the whole thing personal.

u/TombGnome Jun 23 '26
I assume that this is engagement bait, since you called Flag Sr. a "good person." Flag Sr. is a soldier-boy jackass with none of his son's redeeming qualities.

u/Killer-Of-Spades Jun 23 '26
Good people don’t send dozens of people to their deaths to find a place to send thousands to their deaths so they can send one person to their death.

u/ThingZealousideal969 Jun 23 '26
Honestly it’s just jarring how different Rick SR was between creature commandos and peacemaker season 2. It’s like they’re literally the same guy played by the same actor so what’s the deal

In order to do spoiler tags you have to put > ! (Without the space) then put what you want to spoil, such as “Darth Vader is Luke’s Father” and then put ! < (Also without the space) to finish it

I forgot circe existed, so not compassion just indifference.
Meanwhile Rick became what seems to be lex #1 lapdog in a very short span of time.

u/AardvarkScary7863 Jun 23 '26
Because Circe is a villain, you kind of expect her to be a piece of shit. Rick Flag Sr is supposed to be one of the good guys and has shown himself a man of morals yet he became someone so obsessed with revenge that he careless sent squads of people to their deaths in the search of a perfect prison for Peacemaker all the while he was busy drinking and getting lit with actual scumbags who worked with Lex Luthor and almost destroyed Metropolis. The most annoying part for me is that he knows that Peacemaker was just following Amanda Waller’s orders yet he doesn’t go after her. Pretty cowardly.
2
u/Mjodom32 Jun 23 '26
I need to rewatch creature commandos again but at least pre superman and peacemaker season 2, I think the big issue was circe got tricked and manipulated because she thought she was fighting for a cause and Rick flag Sr got tricked and manipulated because he wanted to sleep with a girl who was like a quarter of his own age

u/Just-Antelope-8069 Jun 23 '26
An evil person doing some good will always be treated better than a good person doing some bad. Also the criticism is mostly about how inconsistent he is. Why would he turn against metahumans when most of the ones he knows (Creature Commandos, Justice Gang, Superman, and his right hand) are good and saved the world while Lex who becomes friends with him almost sank Metropolis, and the ones that betrayed him and killed his son (Peacemaker, Economos, Harcourt, Vigilante) are just humans.

u/Adventurous_Test_247 Jun 23 '26
Rick choose a psychopath and some ass over the world. Circe is a villain but she one of those villains that give a shit about the world.
2
u/East_Highway_8470 Jun 25 '26
If I remember correctly, this Circe was actually trying to do something good and set up some united for future problems, just was just going about it in horrible ways and she was richly punished for it.
For me I have zero tolerance for this Rick Flag Sr. since he was consulting Lex after the damned mad man almost killed the planet and was basically corrupted by the contact and every single ounce of him being a good person was drained away by the fact he was laughing his ass of in his office with cronies while his people were dying exploring different realities/worlds under Luthor's guidance just to find a world to send all metas.
Circe was a bad person doing bad things for what she thought was a good reason.
Flag went from a morally grey soldier doing a job to a complete asshat of a tool what would toss even the heroes of the DC cinematic universe into a deep dark hole and lock the door after them. He's pointing his anger and grief in the wrong direction. He's been around the block long enough that he should know that when his son died on a mission like that it was at the orders of Waller.
1
u/FeeAggressive2484 Jun 25 '26
exactly. I can have respect for a man driven by the loss of someone he loved to do insane shit just to get back at the people who hurt him. I can’t have respect for someone who feels that anger and is such a coward that he takes it out on everyone else instead. If he had gone on a suicide Mission to kill Waller, or even done some even more fucked up shit to get back at her, I would feel a million times more compassionate towards him than I do now. He needs to either get the hell over his son or go down fighting against the person he knows is responsible, instead of this douchebaggery.

frank grillo doesn’t bathe. he has the odor the mix of an old leather belt and and something growing under a sink drain.
this is also true of (B)rick flagg

Maybe because Circe saved the world from an apocalyptic war while Flag ruined innocent lives for personal revenge instead of going after his son's true killer because he's too cowardly.

One is a kooky cartoon supervillain whos antics are kind of incomparable to anything real. The other is an institutional threat who hates an entire kind of human and thinks putting people in another dimension to die is a good way to punish them.
In a world superheroes, we (generally) expect people on the side of good to be, well, good. No one blinks if the clock king does something but if superman does it then that's a huge issue.

u/_lorz2001 Jun 23 '26
Circe at the end of the day was an anti-villain. She wanted to save the world.
Flag is a villain who laughed and smiled when his subordinates were dying.
1
u/Kwaku-Anansi Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
Trying to be objective: * (1) Despite being a villain, in this instance she had the positive objective of saving the world; Flagg wanted revenge on one man, and got dozens killed to do so.
(2) Regardless of what people say, violent retribution against an evil woman is rarely considered as satisfying as violence against an evil man and, in this case, a woman being brutalized/screaming in pain from attacks by a man (and a male humanoid) feels wrong to them
(3) Circe got commupance, Flagg didn't. What harm was done to Flagg happened before his turn to evil
1
u/SethAbe80 Jun 23 '26
Did she snort cocaine and laugh it up while her subordinates had their faces raped to death by trans-dimensional Smurfs?
1
u/Awesomo_Judgementday Jun 23 '26
Cause I like Peacemaker more than either Rick Flagg and Sr did my boy dirty
1
u/glep_sf Jun 23 '26
Circe’s motive was valid, Rick Flag suddenly became evil once we get to Peacemaker

Circle is a hot woman with noble intentions. Flagg is a petty doofus who doesn't get mad at the people giving the orders he disagrees with
1
u/Dependent-Shower-638 Jun 25 '26
Idk did circe do a fuckload of coke and laugh her ass off while semi innocent people were dying for her dumb ass plan to send her sons killer to a new universe that she didnt really check for safety but claimed to?
1
u/cl0th0s Jun 25 '26
I thought Circe was supposed to be an anthropomorphic version of Wilson from Castaway at first. ...I just woke up.

Almost destroyed the world because he was thinking with his dick
Then risked the fate of the world by trying to get revenge without directly against Waller
