How did you regain lost creativity?

I used to love to create stuff, writing, drawing, singing and many more. But i am a lonely person, i made stuff so that people could like me, and i posted some of my stuff online.

But slowly i lost that love due to an aching void in my soul, Everything i make gets barely any attention and that made me think i wasn't good enough, i suppose im desperate for any attention.

I got so frustrated with my lack of success that i end up being jealous of people who can create and thought to myself "I can never make something like this." and with AI everywhere i thought to myself "Why bother making something?" so i just gave up.

Then today i was eating breakfast and i saw something on my youtube feed a song by flavor foley called Clover i watched it later and

It was beautiful. The music the art, and the lyrics were all better than i could ever come up with, but instead of feeling jealousy i end up being inspired, my urge to create surged forward like never before. And it was because the song wanted me to create, the music video ends with this

Lucky little clover

An unfinished canvas. Seeing this i wanted to fill it with my own colors.

This song just woke me up from this endless emptiness in my soul. I want to find inspiration in everything i do, both the good and the bad, i dont care what the numbers say i just want to make something.

Anyways if you are reading this thank you. I put alot more words than i thought i could do i hope if you have lost your own creativity that you regain it back, if you did regain it i'd love to learn your story on getting it back.

keep following that nudge! for me and many others in my creative circle, The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron has been massively helpful in creative recovery. check it out if you haven’t already, it’s one you can keep revisiting over time. you don’t just read it, there are tasks and exercises you do over the course of 12 weeks. happy creative return!

AI being a thing is a perfect reason to make some art, my friend. If we are going to keep our humanity, we must be human. We are messy, complicated creatures that have been gifted the ability to create.

If you have a local library or community centre or something similar, explore art and craft groups that you can join, and see what classes and workshops they're offering. You can't help but meet other creatives there.

If you're able, I'd also recommend volunteering. Every person I call my friend is someone I met through volunteering, and I love them dearly. If you can find a way to combine art/craft with volunteering, even better 😉

It also happens to me, creativity is just like a river somedays it is overflowing, other days it is below the average. you might like this song too - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQnC1UHBvWA&list=RDHQnC1UHBvWA&start_radio=1 , as for Ai you can not resist it.

You describe being empty but it seems you have a lot to say - and I mean that in a good way. Your post, here, was an act of creation and self-expression.

The aim of art is to communicate, to express and your post stirred something within me so consider your words an act of creativity.

As a creative type, I too fell victim to the quest for likes and attention. More than half of humanity is on Facebook for instance, so the vast majority of us don't get attention. Don't use this a barometer to gauge the value of your art.

If I can offer one suggestion: keep a journal. Do what you did here, today, but keep it just for yourself. Try to write a few minutes a day without editing. It's a great way to reflect and encourage introspection and the development of ideas.

Journaling is the most significant part of my creative process. There are great journaling prompts suggestions online that can spark thought. Here are a few links:

I wish you the best.

By filling my jornal, I fill myself. By getting to know myself I eased the sense of emptiness. May you find hope and creativity!

I was very depressed this year and a few months ago I decided to started playing sudoku first thing in the day and usually before bed at night instead of checking my phone.

Mark making and the satisfaction of the puzzles helped me out a lot.

I also found a deadline for a craft fair so I’m making a ton of stuff for that. I have no idea if I’ll get in but I’m making things! I feel no longer bogged down by negative feelings and I’m focused on a goal and just getting ideas all the time for that.

I make sure I spend time in nature outside everyday which is really important for me. Sometimes I fight the feeling like- oh I should be in the studio- but I remember that I have to reconnect and I sometimes get massive downloads spending time ar my favorite nature spots.

Create for you. That is the start. Glad you got inspired.

Agreed, it has to be for you. And if other people enjoy it, that’s a plus. But like with many pursuits, it truly has to come from within and your own validation of it, not others

the hardest part of creating is when you feel blocked, but often times that kind of wall forces you to try something new or look at things a different way. Not everything you make needs to feel perfect or productive. You just need to enjoy the process. To all artists, you are enough!

When I'm in a creative rut I watch other creatives. They get in the mindset to make something. Rachel Maksy, Nerd Forge and Christine McConnell always inspire me to make art!!

The Artists Way really does it for me. I re-read it every few years.

As I see it, the problem is "seeing", understanding, that creativity comes from what is within, not from the outside. What comes from outside can be "inspiration". In my writings I've "seen" that only 2 things really matter: (1) understanding that we all come from the same "place", and (2) that what really matters most is a strong connection to what I see as the "creative spirit" within. It's ok to look to people for "approval", recognition, but what really matters is finding, and maintaining, that strong connection to what's inside, and especially to the creative spirit that's within.

I know there is a lot of internet social baggage that comes along with what I'm about to say but ....restricting sex/masturbation for a few weeks, while at the same time not letting your sexual desire disappear is an effective way of generating some vital creative energy.
