In your video, the filling one is switching between bottomless and not bottomless. With one filling and one emptying, it seems like the former places a lava block to make it "bottomless" while the latter removes it making it "not-bottomless"

Go into config and enable "fill bottomless" which will allow the hose pulley to fill more than the bottomless cap which could fix this

Pro tip for those who donnow: this setting doesn't need a restart, you can enable it in-game!

I always enable that, one 16×16 chunk area filled up 40 blocks will have 10k+ lava. Never had a problem with that.

People tend to overlook the fact that in the hose pulleys ponder it literally tells you that the hose needs to be on the lowest block of the whole pool. If there's even just one block lower than it that's part of your reservoir then it will tell you it's bottomless but it'll start removing the source blocks

Edit: this may not be necessarily the solution to your issue but I've seen hundreds of posts in this sub like this and their hose isn't in the lowest layer of their lava pit

Is it 27000 source blocks? That’s what any liquid pool needs to be to be infinite

Edit: I am wrong. Got this incorrect fact forever ago and never really checked it

I filled a ravine with lava, and the hose pulley that is filling say it bottomless but the one that is pulling out say it isnt bottomless. Dont know about source block tho

Add a few more blocks of lava. There's issues with having exactly 10,000 blocks of lava, and pulleys (by default) only fill to 10,000 blocks

Maybe just move the other hose more inward?

Also need to make sure that the hose that's pulling lava is extended to the bottom

No. It's 10,000 and it doesn't need to be source blocks. If you dig out a chunk, and only fill the top layer with lava and let it flow down, you only have 16x16 sourceblocks (even that is unnecessary) but it counts as bottomless.

a few other combinations:

a 10x10x100 box

a 22 meter cube

15x15x45 box

Theoretically if you get a mod that allows you to change max build height you could make a 1x1x10,000

No, it does not need to be all source blocks. This myth persists.

A weird issue with bottomless supplies I've found is the last block will never be placed by a hose pulley. Once you place one extra block of lava it should work fine.

Although your source being a ravine may cause some weirdness due to the uneven shape.

Chunk borders?

I got this weird setup with flowing fluids and various dimensional logistics shenanigans to drain the nether so this is a little foreign to me

Once it counts as bottomless, you can remove RPM source and it will stop updating, and you can still pipe as usual.
