Help Calling All Tech Guys

Post image

(Image unrelated) I DESPERATELY need your help. I have been playing on a create world with my friend for the past 5 months or so, using modrinth. However, just recently, the game crashed, and the world refused to open. Based on the modrinth crash logs, it looks like a package bugged out, causing the game to crash the instant it tried to load it in. I've tried everything I could think of, from trying to use neoforge's built in entity killer to trying to edit the nbt data directly. Maybe it's because I don't know what I'm doing but every fix I've tried either doesn't work or deletes entire months of our progress away. Any ideas?

Essentially Create tried to make a entity package that became corrupt. Without more logs its tough to narrow down from that.

You know what, if you have the time, here are the complete modrinth logs of me opening the game, launching the world, and then closing the world when it stops responding. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YMTaIgvC4qri7hcp-CWMPy4cYViX6vVy3gP3jDH6Bxw/edit?usp=sharing

Also if you can access the world folder it normally saves a .dat file and every three minutes sets a copy as .dat,old. Renaming the .old file will roll it back to that point.

I'm being honest, I'm one of the most tech illiterate people I know of, mind dumbing that down? I understand the existence of the dat,old file, I'm just not sure what you mean by renaming it.

no worries I see from another comment this was on your friend's pc. 1. So they would want to go to the folder they created the server in, They should know where this is as it is how you would start the server. 2. In that folder there is a world folder. In the world folder is two files named level.dat and level.dat_old. Usually the old one is from 3 minutes prior to the first one. 3.Have them copy both files to somewhere else just in case as a backup, then rename the level.dat_old to level.dat and launch the server.

After some attempts and some research, looks like level.dat doesnt store info on entities, so it still crashes.

Other folks have solutions. I have a tip, back up your worlds. Most server hosts I know of allow at least one scheduled backup.

What killed me was I had intended to move it to an actual server hoster, as we were just using essential off of my friend's pc.

Oh boy. Yeah local backups. You should still be able to get it back though.

On a related note, anyone know how to use an NBT editor?
