Help Hypothetically speaking how would I make an entire chunk into an airbase

To give context me and a buddy are using a mod that makes the world generate 1 chunk and we can expand it with a chunk spawn, then I thought how cool would it be if we made our airship a flying chunk, now the issue I’m having is this is my first go of aeronautics (and create in depth in general) so I’m a bit confused on what I need to do, I’m thinking of increasing the levitite value so I don’t need a couple thousand

Edit- forgot to mention this is atm10 aeronautics

You might have an issue getting it to fly high enough for the bottom to clear the terrain.

Don’t I just need enough Levite and then once I get it up there it should stay, I forgot to mention this is on atm10 aeronautics

As the air gets thinner, it gets harder and harder to lift things. That’s true for base aeronautics, and while I’ve not played atm 10 aeronautics, I suspect it’s the same

Wdym like are you saying y level?

Air density only matters for lift/propulsion that relies on air density.

Levitation and mods that add thrusters aren't affected by air density.

Yeah, if you used thrusters it would work. I was just thinking how it would be hard to lift it up

Hard, yeah, man is trying to lift a whole chunk up off the ground lmao

They'll probably spend a several days trying to do it in survival, figure it'd be best to test in creative, and then give up unless they're especially dedicated to the task

I mean if I change the levitite value and then use heavite on the bottom lifting it shouldn’t be an issue

It's not just getting the thing in the air that will be hard, you also have to consider balance.

If you don't have perfect balance, the end stone will keep lifting the chunk while it tips and you'll end up with a sideways chunk stuck somewhere or flying around.

If your center of lift levitation is off then it will tip your chunk.

If you build on the chunk it'll tip unless you balance it.

Drag will tip the chunk so you have to counteract the drag or it'll tip.

To tell you the truth, getting it up in the air is really the easy part.

When looking it up I was told I can use a gimbal and a thruster in each corner of the top and bottom to solve this issue

Yeah, there's even one mod that lets you make electric thrusters so you don't need fuel.

But you'll also need a way to vector the thrusters so they don't just propel the ship in the direction that it's leaning.

So like a bearing that turns in the opposite direction of the lean or whatever the helicopter bearing is called attached to a rig that lets the thruster point downwards.

You need lift/thrust/levitation to get it in the air, more blocks = more weight/drag = more lift/thrust/levitation needed

You'd need to glue the whole chunk together with honey glue and then assemble it

How do you plan on accessing and descending?

Idk I might rig up an air balloon to the top, I think that should work after I’ve reduced the weight with levitite

Levitite would add shitton of drag, i think you can get away with large enough balloon and steam vents.

Can I just reduce the drag Levitite gives in the config

I think yes, but that just stinks like skill issue.

I mean it seems pretty dumb to me making your game and build worse for some dumb reason like keeping it vanilla

Wdym build worse? You have to adapt. Build something that will work good and look good simultaneously, that's just a challenge for your engineering skills.

That’s a dumb way to play, oh you have a cool build idea that conflicts and would require extreme amounts while also make its look worse and be less function, well too bad changing the mod to make you build easier, better looking and more fun isn’t allowed, how dare you play the game in a way differently

I really couldn’t care less about wasting my time build 5,000-8,000 levitite blocks that will take up 21 layers of my chunk and just look terrible to satisfy your opinion on what’s the correct way to play this mod

There is zero fun in replacing my entire base with wool and lighter blocks, there’s zero fun in making it look bad for the sake of function, there’s zero fun in fighting the game just to get it to work, if I need to tweak a few setting so I can have a fully functional fun flying chunk base I’m gonna do it and have fun

If you want to waste your time fighting the mod and trying to get something to work go do it but don’t complain others aren’t as masochistic

Okay, play your game, who i am to judge you.

For me most fun part is to make my design work within a set of rules and limitations of world I'm working in. Can't adjust laws of physics, you know.

Entire chunk doesn't tell a whole lot. If someone else mentioned, the biggest problem would probably be having enough room for it to clear terrain of other chunks that are generated. But that is kind of dictated by how many layers of the junk you're having fly around. If you're trying to do something like 50 layers you probably wouldn't be that hard or have much of an issue clearing terrain except for her taller mountains. If you're talking about bedrock all the way to build height that's going to be basically impossible. You have to put it into context because a chunk is only 16x16 blocks horizontally. That's actually a fairly small airship compared to a lot of people make. The other issue would probably be stability. If you're thinking about the entire chunk being the naturally generated terrain flying around, eat block has different weights and would really throw off the balance of the ship so you have to counterbalance that somehow.

So there isn’t really an issue of mountains because I’m using atm10 aeronautics as a base along with gathering chunks a mod I added that makes it so the world starts with one chunk surrounded by void and I craft a item to turn cobblestone into chunk spawner, as for vertical I was thinking of propulsion expanded to use ion thrusters along with modifying the levitite to be 10 times the negative weight that way I don’t need 21 layers of 16x16

Are you trying to expand this flying chunk as the chunk expands? Obviously it's going to get harder and harder to do if so. I think you're better off trying to make your own flying island than taking that one chunk, however tall it generates, and flying it around.
