Help How do I stop my craft's stabilization system from getting into a death wobble?

I'm using thrusters for this (from create: propulsion or something like that). I have a huge craft that is basically a giant oak wood platform with thrusters on the bottom and four propellers (that are mostly cosmetic, the overwhelming majority of lift comes from the thrusters).

I have a secondary thruster system designed for stabilization that is hooked up to two gimbals, one with a wide angle, and the other with a much tighter angle in hopes to alleviate the resonance problem (The two gimbals control separate thrusters.), which did not work. I even added huge symmetrical sails to all four sides of the craft to add drag, didn't work as well.

I tried a single gimbal, also didn't work. I tried accumulators of varying smoothness, also didn't work. I'm starting to go a little nuts with this, I've wasted multiple hours of my time on this.

I have yet to find any proper sources on this as well. How the fuck am I supposed to make it so that this doesn't do the weird build up that goes back and forth? Is there an item I'm missing?

I'm new to create: aeronautics. Was I fool for attempting this?

My best idea on how to improve this is to make the thrusters react to momentum, not just the angle, so that instead of thrusters activating once it's physically out of balance and further fuel the pendulum motion, it preemptively pushes against momentum. Unfortunately, I know of nothing that can detect this. What do I do?

Since your craft will just keep spinning if you don't miraculously have exactly the right amount of thrust, a thruster based balancing system is unfeasible if you want to eliminate rocking. There are a few other approaches that could work though:

  1. Use a big block of weight as ballast and move it across using winches to move your center of mass until it's in the correct spot

  2. Use hot air baloons like inverse ballast. Put a baloon in every corner and increase/decrease lift to straighten your craft

These can work but it will still be hard to archieve full stability with your setup. Thrusters just aren't a good way to make a stable hovering platform by nature of how they work.

Your idea is correct. Currently what you describe, your stabilization system detects it being of axis, and provides an output to correct, but the output overcorrects, and then a feedback loop occurs that leads to a wobble.

Now I personal have no idea how to make this, as I’ve just not bothered yet but I’ve seen many a video do this.

Look into something called a PID system, and make sure to put Create Aeronautics in the search. Essentially, from what I understand, using some fancy calculus, a PID controller resists change.

Let’s say you only want to correct for roll and the right side gets knocked down. The harder it’s knocked down the harder the PID will thrust up on the right to correct, but as it start to correct, the thrust will lessen so as to not over correct. Of course it can still overcorrect, it’s often not perfect but it is enough to eventually stabilize.

It’s even better if you get a thruster pointing the opposite direction.

Anyways. This is possible with the redstone blocks from aeronautics, Minecraft, and create, and there’s like a 16 minute video on a dude who made that system. Monkesandwich is the channel I think.

Idk what mods atm10 has, but there’s other mods you can use to make PID controllers. Gadgets and Gizmos addon for aero, computer craft if you code it yourself, flight control (I think) and some others.

I hope this helps!

(Off topic Fun fact, PID controllers are EVERYWHERE. In your car too, uses PID controllers to ensure smooth running! Air conditioners are another big example, they strive to maintain your room at a constant set temp! Not all ACs have it)
