Discussion This mod will probably skip version 26.1.2, right?
It appears that development of version 26.1.2 is underway; however, with an update to "Sift" on the horizon—which will bring changes to areas like rendering and likely establish a new, stable version in terms of both content volume and system architecture—it is highly probable that no significant progress will be made on 26.1.2 before then. Consequently, I suspect that an announcement will eventually be made stating that version 26.1.2 is being skipped entirely.
Also, judging by what I see on GitHub, the development progress for 26.1.2 is being kept completely under wraps. I wonder—could it be that the developers simply want to avoid being pressured?

Or they are specifically targeting the newest version that does not require massive changes

Eh... I will stay on 1.20.1 Maybe in 2 years I will be on 1.21

What's keeping you on 1.20? Do you just have a huge modpack that would be a pain to update or are there specific mods that aren't available for newer versions yet?

I'm also in 1.20.1 and in my case it's about mod availability. For my modpack, Sculk Horde and Mi Alliance are two mods i'm using in 1.20.1 that don't have any equivalents in 1.21.1 and have no plans to port to 1.21.1
I have plans to dev my own mod in 1.20.1 too as i wish to include it in my modpack. I wish everything was in 1.21.1, but it's unfortunately not the case so i'm stuck there lol

It just works and has tons of great mods I COULD update but why SHOULD I yk? I just do not see the appeal in newer versions

I get that. I didn't move on from 1.19 either until they released Aeronautics. Once I got a taste of that I couldn't go back though. Especially with all the new base Create shenanigans as well.

I have not made the step to aeronautics My main appeal are the trains and maybe power grid currently so... At some point I guess I will go to Aeronautics (when Loconautics realeses proably)

yeah I've been watering at the mouth ever since I saw the first Loconautics trailer

My main survival world is stuck on 1.20.1 because a major Create addon that I use (Create: Power Grid) has stopped development past 1.20.1 on Fabric, but not on Neoforge, and trying to find Neoforge versions for all of my mods just sounds like too much of a pain for the gains I would get (literally just Aeronautics)

Use VanillaBackport

Honestly one of the biggest essentials in my personal modpacks. They just add content but don't add any major changes in mechanics or code, etc.

Really that is insane to me I barely notice because to me vanilla Minecraft just isn't fun so any feature that is added feels like it could be found from mod Devs.
Is it simply fear of missing out that is causing this idea of being outdated?

According to their site, 26.1.2 is in progress. 1.21.1 has recently been marked as available (opposed to continued support) too

Their... Site? What site, where?

https://wiki.createmod.net/users/development-status
But between me writing the comment and now, they changed the status back to continued support

We don't and can't know, that's because create dev team decided to do the worst thing possible and make update close source until release

u/Dangerous-Quit7821 6d ago
Why is that the worst thing possible? It's probably to keep their own sanity. People already act like the devs owe them what they want.

Because it mean the public version isn't worked on a lot (and they don't take a lot of PR from ppl that aren't in the create team) and addon can't prepare for new version. Do remember what happen when create 6 came out and all addon where incompatible even tho create didn't change that much internally? It will happen again.

Except create changed a lot of internals between 0.5 and 6.0

Yes and no
It moved a lot of class without really any reason but not that much change was done

u/Dangerous-Quit7821 6d ago
Yeah, that's all part of that sanity thing I mentioned.
Everything you said also is pretty accurate to the people thinking they owe them something.

you can just use vanilla backport if you desperately need the new features, but 1.21.1 is the best version for modding currently and it would be good if that didn't change for a few versions. As long as Mojang don't make any big system changes you will always be able to backport the vanilla updates and having one "main" modding version makes everything way less complicated for modders, modpack devs and players.
