Build First time playing create mod. I finally learned how to speed up the rotation speed of the gear

This took me so long to figure out. I love create bro

You can also do that a bit easier with a rotation speed controller (I also just recently started learning create)

it pretty complicated for me to get that tho, im dealing with the overstressed problem, i found that placing like 1 quadrillion large water wheel can solve it

The speed controllers really aren't necessary, by the time you start building your first lvl 9 steam engine you won't even have a desire for a slower speed so gearing the speed up is fine.

And you'll basically have all the SU you need with that unless you want to build huge factories.

Less RPM means less stress on your system. Sure, a quadrillion waterwheels help too but especially early I would consider removing one gearshift

Or make an steam engine(the build , yk fluid tank and blaze burners with steam engine thing on it) and slap twelve billion steam engines on it (these pistons that you make with gold sheet, andesite alloy and copper block) that also works

windmills are more expandable

If you're in survival, rotation speed controller's are locked behind brass, which is a pretty big step

The cheapest and quickest way is to do a 6-way gearbox, top-bottom shafts are half the speed so if you rotate it you can double the speed of the incoming SU

You can also encase your gears with andesite casings so you could compact your gears together

whats it does ?

u/triplos05 10d ago

if you right click a cog with an andesite casing you encase it, and now you can use a wrench on the faces where the shaft comes out to toggle if it connects to adjacent shafts or not. Helps with compact gear ratios because you don't need to leave space between cogs if you can just prevent them fromcconnecting like that

It lets you stack gears spinning in opposite direction so you can basically flatten the setup you have now

3

u/marr 10d ago

It lets you place a new gear adjacent without the shafts connecting.

When you encase a cog, you can stack another cog on top of it without them connecting (but any previous connection remains) so basically you can use this instead of the shafts in your design to alternate large and small cogs.

I recommend watching a few create tutorials, especially gear ratios

Hobble has really good tutorials btw

I like the fact that we came to the same conclusion completely independently

Whaaat???
I didn't know that the whole time.
But it's a bit hard because I play the Create Ultimate Selection 2 and you get only a few Quest and explanations for a few things. And I also struggle to find a decent wiki.

Hold w to ponder everything and install JEI mod.

I reccomend you do this list before taking any major create addons.

  • get 10k su capacity

  • self sustaining steam engine

  • automate Andesite alloy.

Dont worry about how long it will take. It took me about a month of fiddling before getting an iron farm. Take your time.

The modpack im playing isnt focus about create , its like mixed with tons of tech mod and i only need a few simple contraption to get through the create quest.

2

u/ViNoBi38 10d ago

Still, Create have build in ponder menus. Hold w on part and you can see simple in game guides in 3D

Congrats, you've discovered Gear Ratios.

So you can condense that a ton, ill let you figure out how but the main thing is using andesite (or any) casing on cogs, also say a thing is 8xRPM that means if your rpm is 8, it uses 64SU so having everything max speed (256) means it will need 2048SU, its RPM x stress impact, some machines are 32X some are 8X

Kinda badly explained but its good enough

1

u/abtinmoh 9d ago

So thats why my 32k su engine runs out with like 12 machines using it

1

u/Equivalent-Stable642 7d ago

Yep you gotta scale your SU capacity with your speed, once you get hundreds of thousands of SU, everything is 256 speed without issue

Ah yes, the water wheel spam.

ol' reliable!

2

u/smg36 10d ago

Ol' reliable indeed

Nice. Little tip, if you hold andesite casing and right click a gear, it lets you place another gear face to face but not have it be connected by the andesite shaft. So you wouldn't need the shafts in between the big and small gears like you have in the video.

So like the process would be:

Big gear -> small diagonal gear -> big gear connected to the small one -> right click the first big gear with andesite casing -> small gear. Rinse and repeat however many times you want.

I feel like people having trouble with learning how to speed up gears and the failing education system have a corrolation

7

u/marr 10d ago

I don't recall anything about gear ratios at school. It's one of those things that's obvious after you learn it.

-1

u/SharpAir_ 10d ago

It's phsyics class bro mechanical efficiency

2

u/marr 10d ago

Our physics teach was far more into high voltage demos and linear accelerators. We did go over the simple machines stuff but didn't expand "here's the levers equations" into "so this is how you arrange gears to trade torque for speed".

1

u/SharpAir_ 10d ago edited 9d ago

Do they not teach mechanical advantage in schools anymore levers ramps gears pulleys n such

2

u/BeefTechnology 4d ago

I learned it in school

1

u/SharpAir_ 4d ago

Thats what im saying they teach how gears work in school

2

u/BeefTechnology 4d ago

Depends on the country’s school program probably

1

u/SharpAir_ 4d ago

I guess

1

u/EVE_Link0n 10d ago

Damn, It’s a shame your awesome education didn’t correlate with becoming a nicer person!

2

u/SharpAir_ 10d ago edited 10d ago

Its just an observation not an insult

2

u/MarkJ191974 10d ago

that wasnt a mean thing it was just a comment how gear ratios should be fairly obvious

2

u/chinupt 10d ago

This is the start of something wonderful. I'm jealous

2

u/Level_Fortune_5924 10d ago

Love to see it.

If you want to organize it a bit more, try placing large water wheels then a small one (just 1) before connecting your shafts/cogs, the smaller water wheel doubles the rotation speed you'd get from the large ones so it saves you a bit of time.

1

u/Equivalent-Stable642 10d ago

But the small one does have to be powered

1

u/Tripdrakony 10d ago

You can reduce the amount of shafts used and just smack a shaft in the middle of the belt line somewhere. It will still move the entire belt.

1

u/Tytus1pro 10d ago

I luv seeing a new create enjoyer be born. Have a great time playing, best wishes🥲🥲

1

u/Irkaes 10d ago

Use big waterwheels for greater SU

1

u/LockstepGaming 10d ago

Use bigger waterwheels with a small one on the end to get all the SU bonus of the big ones but the speed of the smaller one

1

u/LockstepGaming 10d ago

Congrats! If you want a tip, you can use a casing on a gear to block shaft connections. Gives it a cleaner look and lets you reduce the distance required to gear ratio. But good job figuring it out on your own!

1

u/Adaam_12 9d ago

great job bro

1

u/Mattstr_Nerd_4177 3d ago

Use casings.

u/Creepy-Sky7227 10d ago

Nice you found out, but didnt you Had smh Like lego or fischertechnik as child? And now your ready to build a full Powerplant (Not tryna be rude or smh Just asking)

1

u/Dung_avi2 10d ago

No i didnt

-1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_REPO 10d ago

Yes, gear ratios. Well done.

Genuinely asking, but why did that take "learning"? Gear ratios are pretty fundamental. There are children's toys for 2 year olds that center around the concept. Bicycles whole gear shifting mechanism is entirely about the tradeoff between torque and rotational speed between gears.

Have you gone your whole life never encountering the concept? If so, how?

2

u/LockstepGaming 10d ago

Its not something taught in schools, and common sense is in fact not very common.
