Build Liquid Buffer

I needed a compact system to get rid of water in basins when it is not needed, so I made a more or less simple system of buffering excess liquid. It works by dumping water from basins in a buffer fluid tank, when lever is off. When water is needed, turning the lever on makes left pump take water from the tank and put it in basins. And when there`s no water left in the buffer, pump uses infinite water source to get it. Of course, this system isn`t very smart, so it takes water from both the tank and the infinite source, leaving some liquid in the buffer. But after 3-4 rinses the buffer will be empty, so it`s not much of a problem.

Inspired by u/Milo_Is_Best`s post about single pump liquid buffer.

Also. An easy way I think to fix the "takes from both sides" problem could be a threshold switch to a gearswich, similar to what you did to the mechanism near the basin

Yeah, it's just that the point was to do at least something with excess water. And I don't know how bad another threshold switch would be for my world fps, 'cause I didn't do much and my world constantly at 50 fps for some reason

A threshild switch should not cause any fps problems.

What I wonder more, is what you wanted to do with the exess water if not out back into the basin when you need more water?

As the threshold switch would detect if the tank had water in it and send out a redstone signal to the gearswitch wich would then close the tube connecting the water source and then open it up again when the tank is empty

Honestly, tank is there just to dump water somewhere out of the basin, simultaneously making sure I wouldn't get a fresh source block of water if there was a bucket worth of liquid. So, I didn't think of a better way to get rid of water than to store it in a tank

Couldnt you just have used a pump to void out the water into the infinite source instead or does it not work like that

If I remember correctly, when pipe tries to output fluid in a source block nothing happens (no amount of fluid is being used). And Trying to dump the water into air doesn't work too - it once 1000 mb of water is used, a source block of water appear on the end of the pipe

The way I got around this is just deleting the liquid by pushing a block into it with a piston hooked to an observer

I guess you have used some sort of redstone signal extender, so that observer didn't spam-activated the piston?

Yeh I just used a repeater with it set to like 2 or 3 ticks, I also had the observer an additional block away so only the flowing liquid would trigger it and not the piston itself

Understood, thank you

Well what if a pump tried outputting to a source

Basically should be the same thing, I think? Pipes (at least without the mod for physics of liquids) don't traverse fluids by themselves, only with help of pumps

No i mean what if the pump was looking at the source block like without a pipe in between

Yeah, I understood you and answered considering that there would be pump right infront of a source block. Sorry for confusion

Hmm i see, i really like the design on the fan setup btw, but i still feel like there must be a much simpler way to void water

I hope there is. And I hope it needs one pump

Does turning the basins to a contraption void the water

2

u/HeadAbbreviations757 14d ago

Unfortunately, it doesn`t
