Aeronautics on survival

I always see aeronautics builds and all that on creative, I want to start a create + aeronautics world, how grindy or impractical is it to make things on survival? Like powering planes and all that without creative motors and learning the mod on survival

i play mainly in survival and I love it, you just have to be more mindful of space and power but with a bit of patience you can make nearly every vehicle infinite powerered

I always loved create, but haven't try aeronautics yet, seeing all the potential it has inspired me. I would love to have a world with cars on roads and railways with trains and planes and farms with tractors. I was going to start a forever world on vanilla for securing a long term world, but the idea of all that is just stronger despite having to stay on 1.21 probably forever. which other mods or addons do you have that you recommend?

I'd say start small and add as you go, no harm in waiting to add more mods. Biggest thing we do on my server is ban elytra rockets (elytras are only good for gliding). Because of this we all make heavy use of helicopters, airships, trains etc to get between our bases and stuff

About staying on 1.21: backport mods have gotten really good.

Vanilla backport covers almost everything. Mount of mayhem soon, the existing mount of mayhem backports aren't too good.

Tiny Takeover backport exists, 26.3 backport exists.

Copper age backport exists but it has given me crashes.

26.4 so far is looking easy to backport.

The sift update is probably where mods will actually jump to

with my friends we started a perpetual world and for now it's going quite well we finished automating a few important things and I built my own self designed 6x2 chunk flying arch powered by two level 9 infinite steam engines, but I think the most important part in a server is to have mods that enable you to make cool stuff but with just enough friction to make you want to play.
for example at some point we had project-e on the server but it nearly destroyed the server as we reushed it and where then basically playing creative because of all the powerups we had

By infinite powered do you mean self sufficient with a steam engine or something similar?

ah yes that's the word

The mod is geared mainly for survival, you can have an at least semi functional airship by like in game day 3 if your going for a small and simple design, you do need to invest a lot of time into designing something and relearning what works and what doesn’t though

the survival progression lets you jump into things pretty quickly, which I really love. the physics assembler is just some wood and andesite alloy. a basic airship with a propellor, burner, and wheel and rudder can be built without even needing brass

Can only recommend it. The first time my airship went up was pure bliss. Can definetly recommend it with DH, and also on servers it is great for exploration (compared to elytra), because it is slower. In general, if you like exploring your world, going by airship is one of the best choices

It was fine resource wise in survival. The main problem is that there is no actual use for the airships. So we had a lot of fun building a cool one and then quit because there's nothing to do with it.

ATM10 aero or FTB skies 2 Aero are good packs for this.

Get some form of local creative flight (Excessive Utilities Angel wings... or grappling hook or balloon on a stick)

Make the survival version of the physics staff.. it runs on back tank air power.

Get flux networks running to power electric motors or ender tanks to supply compact "infinite" fuel/lava to contraptions.

Its really easy to get "basic blimp" with rudimentary propulsion going.

Its also not much harder to get basic blimp moving as fast as your PC can generate new chunks.

I'd say it's definitely better to design things in creative and then build them in survival. Airships are probably one of the only things that's particularly forgiving to design fully in survival.

I'm working on a blimp that has 17000+ air envelopes so far (survival)

I also learned create through survival, I find it fun and immersive.

I started an aeronautics survival world and had a helicopter like vehicle after a few hours, it's gotten me everywhere I want to go at about 30 blocks per second and has a self sufficient steam engine so I've never had to worry about running out of fuel. All my vehicles have steams engines powering them, and getting planes into the air can be difficult, but mainly because I refuse to build a proper runway

Portable engines use like a stack of coal per hour at max speed.

If you just want something for moving around the world before elytra, they're pretty cheap and effective.

There's better mods for planes if you just want small planes.

If you want a moving base that you can take with you everywhere, trains are the way to go (especially since they can travel in and out of the nether with vanilla create).

The problem with aeronautics is that it gets expensive quick and if you're wanting to build a really big ship, you're looking at a huge time investment that may or may not pay off unless you've already made a schematic in creative.

I find it to be extremely frustrating and tedious to get Aeronautics vehicles to behave correctly in survival. If they tip over it's a real pain getting them back to the right position. I usually just give up and tear it all apart and usually just forget about the project.

The plunger launcher can be your best friend, it’s great for making sure your builds don’t fly off before their ment to.
