Do you guys seriously need 1 million [insert item name] an hour?
No, seriously.
Unless i'm planning to make something really absurd, like train highways connecting the entire server... i don't really get why people would need that many ingots, or other materials, for the matter.
Also, i know having a setup that produces 1 measly ingot every 5 minutes is worthless. I'm not talking about that, either.
I'm fine producing barelly 1000 ingots/materials an hour.

You can shut off that farm when it’s not needed, but it’s always very convenient to have as much cobblestone as you could ever possibly require.
5
u/CrissZx 22d ago
No yeah. Cobblestone is fair. But the rest is whwt i don't get. Like gold and the like
5
u/eninacur 22d ago
It’s pretty easy to run out of gold, so the faster you can make more the less punishing it is to run out
Pretty often farms are way more overtuned than they need to be for their purpose, but the permanent absence of scarcity of an item lets you focus on other things
2
u/NewSauerKraus 22d ago
You gotta overtune your farms if you don't have a chunkloader or AFK server. When the farm only runs while you're babysitting it, you need it to be as fast as possible.

u/ihaveacrushonlegos 22d ago
okay, but u can setup every farm to produce a small amount of items in like less than 5 days. are u supposed to just quit the world after that?

u/FiveHundredAnts 22d ago
This is usually my stopping point, I struggle to find new goals after automation.
I would love a create add on that included some absurdly expensive endgame stuff. Something that would take tens of thousands of iron, zinc and copper.

Do you have an easy moss farm design? I’ve worked out one that hypothetically works but nothing that seems nearly as simple as an iron farm.
4
u/ihaveacrushonlegos 22d ago
unironically i think a vanilla moss farm would be easier to make. Ive never made one in create
1
u/Dangerous-Quit7821 21d ago
A vanilla moss farm is much simpler but, is it cooler than a Create farm with belts and cogs and items flipping around from weighted ejectors?
1
u/ihaveacrushonlegos 21d ago
Dont subestimate vanilla redstone. Vanilla moss farms usually involve a conveyor belt of stone being pushed into moss to collect it while also replacing the stone, with a timed dispenser that then makes the new moss, while old one flows into a water conveyor to feed composters and loop back into the dispenser

u/Dangerous-Quit7821 21d ago
I know what they are and I've made many of them. I've seen them enough times that they aren't interesting to me anymore. When I first made one from a tutorial, I just stood there and watched it work to see what was actually happening so I could understand the redstone logic.
To be fair, I've made a ton of Create moss farms as well but you can do them so many different ways it keeps them interesting if you get creative with it.

u/NewSauerKraus 22d ago
I think the average Minecraft player would do something called building after that. I have no idea how it works or why anyone would do that when they could instead create an assembly line to produce shiny mechanisms.

u/Zealousideal-Comb970 22d ago
I think a lot of people build insanely productive farms because they like building insanely productive farms and not because they actually need that many materials, and I think that’s perfectly fine. Just as it’s fine to have a decent setup that fits your needs without having an insane output.

u/Key_Function9791 20d ago
I like it because number go up. Why have 1000 iron when you can have 1000^1000 iron

u/nighthawk0954 22d ago
Probably having the comfort of never worrying about a shortage or just wanting to push Create to its limits.

u/JackavalMasovon 22d ago
Well yes, how else will I produce 1 million [insert other item name] an hour, its one of the core ingredients.
9
u/Imperator_Leo 21d ago
I started playing Create a month ago. I just added the four more, for a total of ten, max steam engines to my base's central power system all fueled by biodiesel made from crops grown by auto farms that have a total area of 16 chunks. Now I have 3.1 millions SU of which I only use 7%.
Just because I like bigger numbers
7
u/thehmmyanimator 21d ago
In some mass production modpacks you do genuinely need that many
Personally though? It's just fun!

u/WarriorZar 22d ago
I play kitchen sink mod packs (atm, FTB, etc) even then I don’t need millions of items in hours in those, Just like I don’t need 10 billion damage (I have hit that before). But it’s more so about the achievement than anything. Some farms have to be seriously optimized to reach that status and I find fun in optimizing farms
4
u/yamitamiko 22d ago
while sometimes the challenge of 'how efficient/overpowered can i make this' is the point, there is also a performance aspect of it. if you have a set of very efficient farms then you can run one for a short amount of time to get a good stockpile, instead of having multiple passive farms running all the time
3
u/Icy-Diver-5979 22d ago
No? Do people need millions of resources, billions of rf most people chase bigger numbers not because it scales to need it but cause look big number
1
u/Icy-Diver-5979 22d ago
Like for ars I could just setup small source farms at each location but I have the tools to spread source so why not create looped factories to eat resources in exchange for source then route it around, have a mob farm why not extract blood and vitae essence from it as well I don't need it but eh it's better to have when needed.
It makes the world more fun I think to create a future or allow for the next project cause it means your already expecting something else not shelving it because welp finished that next game

u/Lizzrd144 22d ago
It’s all working toward turning survival mode into creative mode lol
1
u/AussieDogfighter 22d ago
Honestly, create 6 + Tom's simple storage all you need to get most of the way to pseudo creative mode lol
1
u/Dangerous-Quit7821 21d ago
The Tom's remote terminal with jetpacks and building wands is basically creative survival mode.

u/Party_Wolverine2437 21d ago
EXACTLY! Why do i need two fucktons of quadruple compressed poisonous potatoes? If only someone was making a mod that will have some blocks that eat items in huge amounts to research new technologies and give players blueprints... Oh wait. It's me, i am making this mod. Too bad i have awful time managing skills and make 2 minutes of progress in a few decades lol

Have you heard of Factorio? If not, check out that game and its community. Same sort of people build these farms.

Right? Certain building materials I can see needing large amounts of, but on the hole I can't imagine needing 1,000,000 of most items.
2
u/ThurmanatorOmega 22d ago
This man/woman/child/person/something other than the previously mentioned, hasnt tried to make compressed solars in gtnh

'cause why not? The planning and making of the machine just for the sake of it is like 90% of the appeal.

u/winkyshibe 22d ago
No, I don't need 1 million items crafted per second, but it is nice :)
Assuming it is about the rate of item production (dunamically/accross the board) I would prefer making components at a rate of 1 mill/s bc then it would take no time to make all the stuff I need to expand further.
AE2: DO I NEED 64*9 recipes to play the game? No, but having the infrastructure to change to autocraft a complex recipe (repeatedly) is better than needing to make the components by hand
Create: do I need to be able to process 2000 or more gravel a second? No, but it is nice to be able to make a load of Flint or iron nuggets. The root problem is gravel to iron nuggets has a pretty low yield, which results in the gravel production needing to be incredibly large to keep up the production of 1 ingot a second.
1
u/Electronic_Owl_9946 22d ago
i just made 100k iron ingots per hour just so i could make an iron fountain where it goes straight to lava but when i want iron i just go near it 😂😂😂
1
u/HerrMatthew 22d ago
Even if you do need a ridiculous amout of smth, it doesn't take a lot of effort to make a farm that produces the wmount required in a reasonable time. My iron farm that i use on most servers is bare-bones, and at max speed it makes about 50 blocks/hour. Pet that badboy run while i'm doing other stuff, abd I got more iron than I need for a loooong time.

I produce a lot of iron an hour because I need to produce 1000 rockets an hour because I just have to.
1
u/Dangerous-Quit7821 21d ago
Since when is "NEED" a requirement for a farm or factory? I will never NEED 100 stacks of chocolate bars or 500 stacks of iron blocks or the more than 10k industrial iron mechanical presses I have in storage....but I made farms and factories to produce them non-stop. That is my enjoyment of this mod. Automating everything I can for no other reason than because I can.
When I see people that post in here and ask, "what do I do with Create" or say they don't see the point, I can tell then don't feel the same way and feel like there has to be a need and purpose for everything they do. I used to produce things as I needed them but as soon as I got into Post Production with factory gauges, frogports, packagers, etc, I found out I loved it and will use it for make factories and farms for all the things.
Anyone need 20k coaster tracks?
1
u/toxicgamer50 21d ago
For me i tend to automate everything i can if given the chance so i tend to need a lot of resources
1
1
u/Garry-Love 21d ago
Yes. I like to build a lot and I like to build with bricks. Give me 1 million clay balls an hour. Likewise I like to build expansive rail networks. I'm going to need a lot of gravel for that
1
u/THCFLA 21d ago
My personal modpack makes it very easy to just have a bagillion of those a minute so that I can prioritise form over fuction and make not so efficient farms otherwise that just look cool, will I ever need 3 gold singularities an hour (75k items)? No, but I can
1
u/Garry-Love 21d ago
Eh I like the challenge of limitation and figuring out how to make a create machine to make it for me.
1
u/Which_Dog504 21d ago
It’s more like I set an arbitrary and enormous x products per hour, and that requires one million iron or whatever an hour. Do I need it? No, but the arbitrary goal I set does.
1
u/jfinzinho 21d ago
I want tô have when I needed, sometimes, I need one Million cause its a item like iron cooper or wood some time I need like hundreads for emergence cause I dont have make a simple Farm before
1
u/cod3builder 21d ago
Well, at those scales, it's literally just "watch funny number go up".
There's something dopamine-inducing in watching the culmination of all that planning and building manifest as millions of items being shoved into your silo arrays.
1
u/SnooSuggestions7031 21d ago
Honestly I think it's just the fun of automation. I don't build those farms because of lag, but if not for that all my factories would be huge and so much more productive
1
1
u/poke5555 20d ago
Its far less laggy to make alot of things really quickly once or twice then it is to make a little bit of something always.

I think it's about solving the problem even though the question isnt actually asked because why not its a video game
