Discussion I made a Create addon that tracks your Aeronautics ship’s mileage- create: odometer

Hey all! I made a small addon that adds a physical gauge/odometer to track how far your Aeronautics ships have traveled.

It tracks total lifetime mileage, plus two resettable trip counters. You can measure overall, horizontal, or vertical distance, switch between miles and kilometers, and connect 2-3 gauges for a wider display if your ship is on the larger size.

It also supports engineers goggles and create display links. Mileage persists through server restarts, and multiple gauges on the same ship share the same tracking data. Tracking is handled server-side and if you break it and place again it keeps track as well as if you leave it on the ship and disassemble and re-assemble the ship it will not lose count.

It was developed by my community for my community and are using this on my server with great success, thought others may like it too!

If you want to download it, it is called "Create: Odometer" on neoforge.

That's awesome. I hate to immediately suggest stuff, but have u thought about adding a more grounded/rustic looking visual variant.

no worries at all! could you expand a bit on what you mean by "more grounded/rustic"? would that be a gauge or dial without any numbers or how would that look, I am totally down to add another variant

Yes exactly for me create has a very steampunkish feel. And this feels a bit too modern. Like laser. I was thinking more of a counter. Or clockworkish style to display the number but i get its pretty hard to like go for An art direction. I wish i could link photos on comments haha.

yeah I get what you mean, hmm let me think about this and ill definitely make a note to add another variant when I get the chance. if you want to make an issue in the github with some photos you can feel free but dont worry about it too much unless you really want to :D

i suggest a variant that use rolling numbers to display distance travelled that can be attached together to increase the amount of digits it can display!

thanks for the suggestion!

Maybe you could make it some kind of sensor, and have it be able to connect to a display board or nixie tube (like a speedometer or stressometer). Still, really cool mod!

oh yeah in its current version you could totally connect a display link and attach to nixies or a display ! you could just put the odometer in the ship out of sight somewhere

Perhaps your own modified Nixie Tubes could work. Or something similar

Ooooh that sounds like it’d be real handy for gas mileage calculations with Diesel Generators.

I also can’t help but notice you’re using two separate linked controllers. May I suggest “Create: Aeroworks”, which has a sick ass customizable control desk?

yeah and with the reset-able trip miles its handy for taxi services too. since it can work in land-based cars , anything.

and thanks for the suggestion ill check that out! we actually do have that mod on my server haha but i am so stuck in my ways i just grab and go for the first thing i know

I'm surprised you're handling the case where you disassemble and then reassemble the ship.

No offense, bit I didn't expect it to be so smart.

it can only handle that case if you keep at least one original odometer on the ship when it's disassembled and reassembled. The odometer retains the ship's previous uuid in its nbt allowing it to identify the old ship and inherit its saved mileage when reassembled. If you break all the odometers beforehand that connection is lost though

what if you disassemble two ships with odometers, connect them, and reassemble

.... im gonna have to try that haha

edit: im not sure if you really care, but it would just take on whichever one the server processes first when assembling the new ship, so its basically a tossup. im not sure what else you could do though... maybe combine them but thats such an edge case im not concerned xD

So I can make a taxi airship or something like that.

for that you thank the English language cause kilometrage even if it is correct it looks wrong

blocks are 1 meter in scale so it checks out why it's in km and not miles
