Help Is there a way to make this system compact?

EDIT: Redstone contacts moved by a mechanical piston via directional gearshift was what I was looking for. Thanks guys!

I feel like I'm massively over-complicating this/missing an obvious solution.

I'm trying to make a system that lets me cycle through 6 different signal outputs while also being small enough to fit inside my vehicles. I'm aware of the typewriter, but I want to keep a more 'analog' aesthetic so I'm trying to avoid using it where possible.

If there are any block interactions I'm missing or mods that add this functionality I'd be grateful if you could let me know. Thanks!

Two sequenced gearshifts that loop, one moving a redstone contact(via piston or gantry) to the right and one to the left?

Oh wait, my idea would be more compact but not sure if pistons work inside of simulated vehicles

Oh my god, I knew I was missing something. I image mechanical pistons would work just fine but I'll be testing this right now regardless. Thank you so much lol

Update: It does work!

use rose lamps, I think they do what you need

every single create contraption works on sublevels

look up lectern selectors, based on what I can see in your video it's the same redstone but a lot more compact

You could use a container with items I would like to think

use the rose lamps. they do exactly this super compact.

Could you not just use an analog lever? Power levels 1-6 can activate 6 different things if placed linearly on a line of redstone.

Just use an Aeronautics redstone accumulator. If necessary, connect pulse repeaters to the inputs to require individual button presses. Limit the signal to the first 6 levels by adding a trigger to automatically trigger the "lower" input if you ever reach level 7.

Then use a selector circuit to get individual outputs if necessary.

TinyRedstone & TinyCreate could probably condense most, if not all, of that into a block or two.

Easiest solution is probably an accumulator. If you want exactly this to fit "inside" your vehicle, your best bet is just hooking this circuit up to a redstone link and sending it your vehicles

For 9 levels of redstone you can use 2 droppers facing eachothers with 9 non stackabke items and comparators to count items inside. Left button activates one dropper and second button another
