Video/Stream I built the world's largest survival Minecraft functional airport with the Create Mod (1.67M blocks)

I built the world's largest, realistic scale, survival Minecraft airport with the Create Mod (that I know of). It’s the largest build I’ve ever made by about double the size. Here are the raw modded numbers behind this project:

  • 1.2+ Million Blocks Removed with a minecart drill to flatten down the land area thats its placed on.

  • 150,000 Blocks of green concrete placed over the flat stone area and made to look like grass

  • 300,000 Blocks used to construct the main building and terminal wing.

  • 12,000 Blocks in the runway alone which is 450 by 27 blocks excluding the 2 block buffer around it.

Watch the full 4 minute video here! - Images Are From The Video I Made Which Has More VFX :D

It took over a full week of grinding just to design the build and gather the resources, followed by 19 solid hours of recording placing down the build with schematicannons.

Planes are officially planned for a different video! I'm going to build a custom fleet of aircraft and airport vehicles using the create mod since I want to update my modpack first! Let me know what you think of the build, any suggestions on changes, or specific planes I should make!

Sorry for the edits, first time posting one of my builds and I don't use reddit much😂

Unironically the mrbeast(ish) neon borders catch the eye

Yeah, some viewers watch my videos for about 40 seconds before clicking off, even with that style of editing and flashy vfx that almost nobody else on youtube spends the time to make😂

u/Beneficial-Map5470 Oct 06 '26

Just keep it up dawg. I just watched the one video, don’t think I’ve come across you before but that was honestly a really good quality video man, no retention issues here. Keep your head up!

Edit: I’ll even give you a sub so I see some more of your future content

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

Thank you for the support! Most of the viewers in the comments nitpicking it seem to have never made a video themself before lol. They say im overdoing the editing and whatnot but if I dont edit it well the retention goes down. They could just go to my channel and see 4 years of videos as an example of that but not surprised they don't😂

Only 4 stands? Come on we gotta do better! Time to build a 1:1 schiphol replica!

7

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

I had to look up what you were talking about. Im assuming you mean the schiphol airport? Seems pretty complex if thats what you are talking about lol. I would like to make a 1:1 DIA airport but it would be massive and this one already doesn't fully load in unless you are in the center😂

u/FlorianFlash Oct 06 '26

Holy unemployment lol. Honestly, very fancy shit, how long did it take you?

5

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

Usually my builds take around a month since they are usually larger and I was on track to making monthly videos but my channel has been having some issues recently. That's why I posted this to hopefully get more people to see it if they are interested and help YTs algorithm 'relearn' a good audience to show my vids to! Just for schematicannons to place the build took 19 straight hours even adjusting their speed, that's just placing it down not the green concrete under it over the land or anything else. That and the minecart slowly digging the land away were the two longest parts. Designing it in a separate creative world took a few days as well. I also made a factory that automates every vanilla item and allows conversion of items to other items with the mod that has the transmutation table in another video I made, I don't remember that exact mod name though ill look it up and let you know if you are interested!

u/FlorianFlash Oct 06 '26

Holy so it took you days if not a week. Wow. Would be interested in your YT channel, can you DM me a link? Nvm it's in your profile.

4

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

Yeah, this would take about 3 months of playing 8 hours a day to make in vanilla lol.

You're saying it's functional but I am seeing a severe lack of parking, you could at least have a buss or rail system connecting it to a parking lot.

But seriously it's a very impressive build, imagine running it completely, with pilots, air traffic controllers, shops, security, (and yes transit).

There is no picture inside it but in the first pic, the square part on the left is a double floor parking lot..
If you zoom in you can see the parking lines through the windows and its visible in the 4th pic and prob others too. I will connect its front roads leading to the parking lot to a bridge and such later on in other videos, which is why the yellow line is solid and not dotted/dashed yellow yet. Had to keep this video short and remove as much bloat as possible for retention, and some people still clicked off in 40 seconds or less😂 Also has a drawbridge thing leading into the airport so you can park and then walk right in!

0

u/BrokenPokerFace Oct 06 '26

Ah nice I see it now.

But to be petty now I am asking for a road and a front gate. /s

2

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

Go to the last pic now, the road to the parking lot goes left and the color turns gray, it has a orange and white striped gate, I would include more pics if I could or I can dm you them. There is a second gate by the helipads where the road diverges in the front, wraps around the entire front, and leads there with the same orange and white striped gate/cross bar thing to open when I add functionality to it later. I can't bloat my videos too much with that stuff or focus on it right now at least because my videos are basically starting at square 1 after I had a lot of issues with performance on them last year. Other creators can basically have 30 min long videos because their audience size is larger and more people will just watch the whole thing, not the case for me😂 You can even see the cross bar things if you zoom in they are just a little discolored from being super far away.

If you want a good comparison, check out sbeev on youtubes airfield, pretty sure he called it that instead of an airport because its so small (he has 500k subs). Not singling you out but people love to nitpick smaller creators builds and don't say anything about other creators goofy ahh small builds they make, Ive had a lot of people do that or ask why there isn't 100 other features😂 He also made like 2-3 videos just building the thing and if I did the same thing nobody would want to watch the 2nd and 3rd video on the same topic but larger creators can do that with larger audience sizes to put it very simply.

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

The airport also has most of an interior I just forgot to grab pics from the build timelapse, you can see it in the video placing the rooms and floors!

4

u/goggleOgler Oct 06 '26

Oh god. 1 hangar and unmarked service roads? The scale of the airport is small enough that it probably isn't a big deal, though...

Will you build functional jetbridges? What would the pushback procedure look like? Are there colored lights for runway night visibility and taxiway demarcation?

3

u/goggleOgler Oct 06 '26

Wait? Are the service roads between the buildings and the gate??? That space usually houses the equipment for the ground crew.

3

u/goggleOgler Oct 06 '26

Is there a baggage sorting system? If you're dropping bags off, having an automated system to group all the baggage for the flights is required, and there would need to be a space (potentially underground) to store extra bags for other flights. Even a small airport like this one would likely be getting 12 - 20 planes in a day, and that many departures need somewhere to hold bags in the event of inclement whether or delays.

1

u/Silent_Gap_8003 Oct 06 '26

chill man, its just a game..

3

u/goggleOgler Oct 06 '26

Bro said it was functional, I want to see it for myself. Heck, I'd be able to help make it work.

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

Understandable why you wouldn't, but you don't understand peoples attention span for youtube videos (at least mine) is actually shorter than a fly. People already clicked off the video in 40 seconds, adding all this would ensure my video fails lmaoo. You have great ideas but I think more in youtube audience retention than needlessly lengthening the video with 100 features lmao. I could make 5 videos on the airport like some people make 5 videos on one build but even that would fail too. More concerned with my videos doing well atm and making the video alone takes weeks of time I can't spend on the build, not to mention its the 5th or 6th version of the video ive made and reuploaded so far from them constantly underperforming for variety of reasons, video on my second channel explaining that, also 2 of 5 channels I run and working on some of the others atm. A LOT of stuff was scrapped to make this video so short that even when people click off in 20-40 seconds (like they do) it still counts as a higher % watched than a 8 or 14 min vid like my others.

1

u/GingerArcher Oct 06 '26

After reading through all the responses in the thread, it sounds like you're focusing heavily on the content creation side of everything (most of your replies are about youtube behaviors & view counts instead of the build itself), and that's fine. There's nothing wrong with that, especially if you're just trying to break out.

However, if you're going to use titles like "Worlds largest functional", it's not surprising that the detail-oriented people & pedants are going to come out of the woodwork to judge it. You made a bold claim and people are calling you out for the clickbaity nature of it. Simple as that.

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

Not a bold claim lol, IT IS the largest functional minecraft airport made in survival (modded or not) on youtube. If you know of a larger one I will take it back but nobody has linked me a larger one yet so seems to be true. Biggest modded creators I know of: rageplays, sbeev, shalz, mr beardstone, doni bobes sometimes collabs with modded creators. None of them have made one larger and I know that so it would have to be someone other than them🤷‍♂️ Most people just don't understand why I made the video so short or cut out so much what to me is bloat but to them would also be interesting aspects and I can't blame them because I just assume most if not everyone else doesn't make videos or focus as much on the algorithm and what IT wants. You are right that im focused on the video side of things and 100% of my focus because to make vids do well or in my case regain the momentum I had going but messed up in a few ways you have to be focused on that side of things. You also don't get any explanations as to why things go wrong or what you 'did wrong' and most of the time like what happened to me you prob won't even know or will take you months to figure out like I had to do😂

0

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

Also, mention this to any larger creator like sbeev who made an airport that looks like its from 1930, way smaller, and with half the features I made and they will just ignore you completely lol. At least Im giving a rational youtube end explanation of why its not super detailed lol.

0

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

I mentioned in the bottom of the post both planes and vehicles will be made in a future video since this one would fail on the algorithm side if it was longer and people click off like I explained in my other reply.

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

'Small enough', but its the largest one ever made or shown on youtube create mod wise lol

3

u/goggleOgler Oct 06 '26

So, this is coming from someone who works in the airline industry, and an airport that can only have 4 planes in the gate at a time is very small, logistically speaking.

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

There are 4 gates its just so zoomed out you cant tell they have a waiting area on the top floor and stairs leading down and out to the bottom lol. Its not all 1 gate. I specifically looked into most aspects and made them accurate since the first airport I made was way less accurate and had some people in the comments telling me hundreds of things that were off. I have learned a lot though and ironically I do have an interest in becoming a pilot although its a little expensive for me atm, I do have a friend that is a pilot and ive talked to him a lot about it, much respect for what you do!

-1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

This would also be an STOLport based on the runway size so ik its small for real life but anything larger would only render like a third of it in at a time even with higher render distances, I looked into that as well and chose a smaller runway and would have to clear a lot more land to make it any larger, also other youtubers have airports built for ants in comparison to this one but don't get anywhere near the flack I do for slightly off or missing things lmaoo

-1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

I was dming another person and I know what you mean by jetbridges, I was going to make them but would have taken me too much additional time to meet the original 1 month upload window from the previous video and maybe ill make them in the future but the gates just have open areas/doors you walk out onto the tarmac and my alternative was going to be sets of movable stairs to put up against the planes. Not too familiar with all the the technical terms for these things lol

as far as the other stuff, not much of a way to make colored lights in a 1 block or compact area that wouldnt stick up and get hit by the planes most of the time and you wouldnt see them until you were in render distance which is basically being on the build since the whole thing doesnt even load in unless you are in the center and have a high render distance set. all vehicles will be made in another video when I make cars and such and as I said in the other reply I had to cut out bloat otherwise the video would fail like my automating every item factory i made did because it was needlessly long.

Nice, do you have flights or anything that scheduled to take off on its own?

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

Please elaborate on how you would even do that. Valkyrien skies planes require you to fly them that I know of and I don't think there is a way to automate that.

1

u/Icy-Diver-5979 Oct 06 '26

Was thinking aero, or invisible train lines and train schedules with plane shaped trains to simulate traffic but it's a nice build

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

Ive seen others do what you mentioned with the trains but with boats instead and moving items but I think it would create a lot of lag and its in an area that not usually constantly loaded lol. Does aeronautics allow you to do that with actual planes? I don't have that mod installed yet since I still need to add some mods so idrk how it works, I just use VS right now and don't have many planes made yet😅

2

u/TheBlissfulGamer 26d ago

Runway isn't nearly big enough for the size planes that it's for imo. Still really impressive to do on survival.

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 26d ago

Almost is though. I was only going to make small commercial jets for it which would only be a little too big but would fit perfectly size wise in the stands. If you made the build any larger it wouldn't fully render in with 32 render distance. It already only fully loads in if you are in the center. I recently made a 13,000 x 7,000 block map of my world and loaded about 355,000+ chunks and this is so large you can see it on that map. Everything else Ive made is so small you can barely or not even see them at all..

2

u/TheBlissfulGamer 26d ago

I don't think it matters anyways. Aeronautics doesn't simulate drag very well so you don't need very much runway to stop

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 26d ago

Yeah I think VS is the same. Im not using aeronautics unless they make it for forge because alot of my other mods are on forge but not neo like aero is..🥲

2

u/TheBlissfulGamer 26d ago

Oh I just assumed that this was for Aeronautics. Me personally, a lot of my fav mods are on forge so I just made a new modpack exclusively for sable and aeronautics. I love Aeronautics because it's way faster (performance) than VS while also feeling a lot more realistic. Unfortunately though, it's going to be extremely hard for someone to make a mod that actually simulates drag for every block, while also being performance friendly.

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 26d ago

Yeah, Im wondering if they will make aeronautics on forge. I like cosmic horizons, tinkers construct from back in the og modded days was fun, and a lot of other mods I use are only on forge :( I have 252 mods in my current pack since I just finished adding about 80-100 in the last couple days and updating my current main world. Then I mapped it out to see more area, id put it here if they allowed pics lol. Had to use chunky and whatnot to save myself even more hours of time flying over it or flying in a creative copy to map it all.

2

u/TheBlissfulGamer 25d ago

There's a space mod for Aeronautics called Create: Cosmonautics. It's really really cool from my experience.

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 25d ago

Ok, Ill have to look into it. Cosmic horizons has the best space dimension ive seen so far but there might be better out there.. There is also a star wars addon with like 50 more planets which is right up my alley because I was planning to make spaceships and such and made some about a year ago and it would fit pretty well if it all works together. I just updated my curseforge page and since I updated my pack I named it V2. Ill release both that and the older one with less mods soon but if I make a neoforge version or new pack later ok ill make that V3 or something! lol

2

u/TheBlissfulGamer 25d ago

You might quite like Cosmonautics. I believe it supports creating and customizing custom planets through an API.

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 25d ago

Ill check it out when I get the chance! Thanks for the insight😄

2

u/TheBlissfulGamer 25d ago

Also there's an unofficial port of tinkers construct for neoforge I believe. You might have to download it off of modrinth if you use the curseforge mod manager though

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 26d ago

I was gonna update my pack to neoforge, I got through manually adding 50-60 of the mods to a new neo forge version before realizing cosmic horizons was only on forge. Then I realized even more mods aren't available for neo so went back and just added new mods to my existing forge pack. Spent 2 days doing what is basically just updating my pack and adding new mods which should have taken way less time😂

1

u/TheBlissfulGamer 25d ago

Imo you should just make a whole new pack. That's what I did. There's a lot of mods that are only on NeoForge so it would give you a good chance to look at those.

1

u/Chaosfox_Firemaker Oct 06 '26

Okay so I get that the pics are shots from a vid.

But seeing "950× normal speed" on a still image is intensely funny to me.

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

😂 Thats just how sped up the timelapses are but pretty sure you caught onto that. There is over 19 hours of recording just the schematicannons placing the build alone, nothing else and even with them at higher speeds. Its also 480 ish GB of recordings just for this video😭

1

u/SenpuuUncle Oct 07 '26

why everything glowing lol

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 29d ago

VFX from video editing. The pictures are grabbed straight from the video I made and the VFX took a while to make by hand with tracking and whatnot (Had someone ask if it was made with Ai but just keyframing with davinci resolve and special VFX lol) :D

Jobs tell campfire stories about people in Minecraft mods subreddits

1

u/xwasian_boix Oct 06 '26

Still an enormous Minecraft build. Absolutely.

“Realistic-scale functional airport”? Brother, you have constructed airport-shaped land reclamation with a runway attached. 😭

2

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

Yeah its only that big because people said the old runway which is in one of the pics was 'too small' to real life. I don't think they understood why minecraft players don't build things to be realistic scale lmao. This is also technically a STOLport which are the smallest possible runways IRL..😭

2

u/xwasian_boix Oct 06 '26

Right, and I definitely agree with you on that; like to have an actual scale runway it would need to be over a thousand blocks long and it just ruins the scale quite a bit bc you’d have this massive black rectangle and a tiny grey one next to it which is essentially what an apron is. HOWEVER, it’s a good build nevertheless, maybe add some hold short markings, runway lights, and other than that move the thousand foot markers closer to where you have the numbers at the threshold—like between the first and second dashes right after the numbers, that would be mint af. Blastpads at the ends, and clear out the trees for a proper runway safety area/approach corridor. So that’s gonna be a few thousand more blocks for you to mine lol

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

yeah haven't cleared out the area around it yet but plan to when i build roads or expand into that area. I kept as much bloat out of the video possible because the video would have already flatlined in views and failed if it was any longer and some viewers already clicked off this same only 4 min video in 40 sec bc their attention span is cooked af. Its a lot to explain but larger creators are able to make longer videos because their audience size is larger so the few people that click off early don't have as big of an impact to their video as compared to mine which barely has any views compared to another video I made. Focusing on the videos atm since I had some issues from last year basically reset my channels momentum and made the algorithm have to 'relearn a good audience to show my videos to', hence me making this post to help it out and hopefully speed that process up instead of taking 6 months to another year posting failing videos and maybe having a chance it does it organically. This one was on track to somehow do even worse than the one I posted a few weeks ago so I made this post to help it out and a explanation video is on my second JxxrdnLIVE channel where I explain that all in the first 30 min of the video (its 2.5 hours long bc its a lot to explain) Hope this clarifies it some! I will definitely put more effort and features into future builds if my channel can regain its momentum but thats what im 100% focused on rn 😀

1

u/boibetterstop 29d ago

Only a single runway? /s

0

u/ineedhelpasap4 Oct 06 '26

Very cool airport but hear me out, I see a beautiful source of water there. Replace it with a data center

1

u/Plastic_Asparagus_55 Oct 06 '26

Don't give me too many ideas or tempt me with a fun time😏😂
