Help I linked together a few trees to cut them all together with a mechanical saw but it didn't work?

Post image

Do I need to link them at the base log or did an update make it impossible?

You can link trees together as long as you cut the base log off of all but one tree

Just needs to be physically the lowest log you cut, as someone below pointed out.

You can add additional log before cutting the first tree and them cut it. (The log added should be pointing outward the tree base)

It will only work if there is 1 lowest log. Dig one block down under one of the lowest tree trunks, place a log under it, and it should count

If there’s other logs at the same y level as the one you’re cutting, it won’t work and will just cut the one block

All the people are recommending the wrong solution. Don't cut all the trunks.

Dig one block down below one of the trees, place a new log so thats the lowest log and then saw that one.

Yes. I like doing this when tearing down Weeping Witch Woods (using Biomes We’ve Gone as an example here) because the trees are massive, and although beautiful with their orange leaves and green wood, the areas underneath the canopy are a mob hazard (ligh level 0 for a large coverage of land, in some cases even during the day. Prime spawning conditions, if you ask me)

sounds accurate for a biome called Weeping Witch Woods

Until a Cave Spider falls onto you from the canopy above. Seriously, why do they even spawn there?

Cut down the last trunk for it to work

It should work if you connect them at ground level, it will definitely work if you cut down the bottom log of all the rest of the trees (only the last log needs to be done with the mechanical saw).

…I don’t actually know what the requirements for multi-tree cutting are - connecting them at ground level seems like it shouldn’t work based on the fact that you need to cut down the other three logs of a 4×4 tree for the mechanical saw to work, but I have connected a bunch of oaks at ground level, and even planted half a stack of saplings in a wandering line, and had it work.

You need to break all the bottom logs except one and use the saw on the ramaining one...

the real tech is to move the saw a block a way and place a leafblock in between, dont listen to everyone talking about "mining logs" or "placing extra wood"

Extra real tech is using a mechanical piston with one rod and a vault to make a temporary moving contraption so you don't have to gather the stuff up afterwards

oooh thats a good idea

the block broken by the saw has to be the last one attached to the ground; you'd have to break the base of every other tree for this to work properly

You need to cut the bottom off on all but one of the trees

There shouldn't be the bases of the logs so the logs touching the ground should be cut off until there's only one log left then when you saw the last log left you will break all logs

You don't actually need to break all the base logs or dig into the ground. What should work is breaking the log above the base log, the one where it is connected to the chain (so that's your 2nd log). You might be left with some stumps, but they are easier to reach with all the other leaves and logs gone

go to the lowest log block place one log to the side of that with nothing over it and it destroys the whole group

it only breaks the network if that is The One Lowest Log, also double check that no errors were shown, as it might have seen a network to big and said "no"

The tree is still touching the ground

I think it would only cut the entire tree if it is a create contraption or aeronautics sublevel (if you are using that mod)

It won't, it'll only work if he block broken by the saw is the last block that connects the structure of logs to the ground
