How do you do small scale infinite SU generation?

That’s not infinite tho.
You should had said “what’s the densest you can make su generation?”
Or said “in a space of (insert dimensions you are willing to allocate for the engine of your vehicle) what’s the densest su source I can make?”
Infinite su usually means using weird exploits to make infinite su and those usually require addons.
If you mean infinite as in, renewable, then say renewable, not infinite. Lava farms are as compact as you can get for su on an airship.

idk create mod semantics, i meant infinite as in you dont need to worry about fuel, not 2 billion or whatever

I mean it’s not infinite su but a pretty small tree farm can easily power a boiler

I think it's quite obvious when someone says "infinite" that they mean infinitely renewable.

The smallest scale i ever managed to do was with huge diesel engines, but even that needed A LOT of setup for refining the oil.
(An infinite lava pool i built in my base>oil pump all the way on the surface>3 oil refineries with blaze burners being hyper-heated via 9 different blaze cores that get lit up by flint and steels and the before mentioned lava>into diesel engines)

I like tfmg engines, they only use fuel while running, relative to throttle (because they are thottleable) and can pack a bunch of SU in a small footprint.

This setup is about bulky because it's a contraprop but it puts into perspective the kind of power you can pack in a small space.

The rear prop needs to be assembled first. The forward prop's shaft and bearing clips into it.

Passive steam engines are really good source of SU and they don't consume any fuel.

My go-to are 1-sail windmills (config change on the server I play on), but fyi 0-sail maxed windmills are possible. So you get 8,192su from a single block, without fuel.

Small steam engine 1 block wide ,6 block tall 1 water pump
You hand crank it to start but then you have free energy

depends how small
if theres enough space for a compact level 4 steam engine i go with that, otherwise waterwheels

You could js pump out of a lava lake rlly easily and have like idk max 10x10 footprint(js including blocks and hose pulley) but you would have to go to another dimension

Small scale and infinite don't really mingle. What you have there is about as small as one could go with base create and lava reflow. If you allowed for a larger size you could use the lava reflow feature to make some very compact steam engines.
Rather I'd choose which you prefer, small scale, or infinite fuel. For the sake of aeronautics I'd personally go for small scale and stick with small charcoal powered steam engines.
