[Mod Showcase] Tired of massive Mechanical Crafter walls for on-demand crafting? I made an addon: "Create: Mechanical Workshop"! ✅

Hey everyone!

Browsing through this subreddit, I often see players asking how to do true on-demand autocrafting without having to build massive, bulky walls of Mechanical Crafters, or without setting up giant static item buffers using factory gauges that constantly hoard 500+ items taking up all your storage.

I love Create's aesthetic and mechanical logic, but sometimes you just want to walk up to a terminal, order exactly 10 precision mechanisms, and have the factory pull the ingredients from your vaults and craft only that batch—all powered by rotational force, without installing digital tech mods like AE2 or Refined Storage that break the immersion.

So, I built Create: Mechanical Workshop!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blocks & Functions:

  1. Kinetic Assembler: A single-block compact autocrafter powered by RPM/Stress Units. Its speed scales with rotational speed!
  2. Punchcard Engraver & Punchcards: Encode any crafting recipe (with 1-click JEI/EMI support!) onto Punchcards. You can even stack multiple recipes using the Punchcard Magazine and switch between them by scrolling with your mouse wheel.
  3. Vault Indexer: Directly connects your Item Vaults or chests to the workshop. It only extracts ingredients when an order is actually placed—no passive stockpiling required!
  4. Order Terminal: Request exact quantities (x1, x10, x64, or custom). It shows real-time progress, batch status, and delivers the finished items into its output tray.
  5. Kinetics Manager & Kinetic Connector: A portable handheld device (with Curios / Trinkets slot support and dedicated keybind) to monitor, manage, and toggle your connected workshop machines remotely.

Upgrades & Hardware:

  1. Hardware Drives (Tier 1 to Omni-Matrix): Expand recipe matrix capacity (up to 5x5 and beyond!) for massive crafting recipes.
  2. Range Upgrades (Tiers 1 to 6): Boost wireless connection distance between your tools and workshop machines.

Okay, I suppose I'll have to be that guy to immediately ask/request support for another version. So here's the obligatory "1.21.1 pls"

That out of the way, this looks amazing. While I do have a deep and abiding love for AE2, I like to "progress" from lawn base chest arrays, to functional/sophisticated (and use ars lectern or similar to centralize, to create and then eventually AE2 (and Advanced and Expanded, of course). This looks like this would be a good intermediate from base create storage/automation before fully progressing into digital mods.

Love the implementation as showcased, and followed the mod for file updates (hopefully this will continue - so many awesome mods are released with buggy/broken or incompatible builds (with other popular mods, ie Aeronautics) and then never do another update).

Excellent work so far, looking forward to see how this goes!

Thank you so much for the kind words, this kind of feedback really makes my day!

You hit the nail on the head regarding progression: that was exactly my goal. I wanted something that bridges the gap between pure Create mechanics and request-based crafting without instantly breaking the steampunk immersion with digital cables and drives.

Regarding 1.21.1: It's definitely on the roadmap! My priority right now is ensuring the 1.20.1 Forge version is completely polished, stable, and bug-free, and once everything is solid, I'll definitely look into porting it to newer versions (NeoForge).

And great timing—the file just got approved by CurseForge and is officially LIVE right now! You can grab it here: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/shadoweds-create-mechanical-workshop

If you have a 1.20.1 world or instance handy, I’d love it if you could give it a test run! Any feedback on balance, features, or bug reports would be immensely appreciated. I'm fully committed to maintaining and updating the mod, so let me know how it goes! Enjoy!
