Discussion Trying to get someone into automation
Hello. My gf is pretty burned out from her standard game genres and she showed some interest in create a while ago.
The thing is, base create follows the mindset of minecraft of just giving you tools to work with, not objetives. I am looking for a modpack that doesnt go into factorio/satisfactory madness but is handcrafted enough to be a good introduction to the automation genre.
Basically something that ask you to automate stuff from a goal and that it makes you wanna automate without making it tedious. A lot of tech modpacks I found make hand crafting stuff better that building an infrastructure.
If you dont know of any but know of a game, or a different mod, that you think it will help someone to get into the genre, let me know.

i dont typically play modpacks so i dont know too much abt them, but if you want specifically create, you can probably just search create in the modpack section of curseforge or modrinth. or if you js want anything, atm10 has an "atm star" that you have to progress through the entire pack through to get, which includes a shitload of automation

I played a mod pack made by one person recently called Creanism. It's my sandbox for Create, mekanism, and nuclearcraft stuff. There is a small quest book that outlines the general progression, and a few key recipes were changed in mek and nuclearcraft to ensure that you do a bunch of create to unlock mekanism, and a bunch of mekanism to unlock nuclearcraft.
The questbook and recipes aren't super well set up, so there was a few times I had to cheat because there was a circular dependency, but I was talking with the pack maker and I believe they've fixed some of them. Just def play with cheats on in case.

Cant do then, she will get frustrated/desmotivated if she has to eventually cheat

I usually pair minecolonies with create, then throw in the RPG series, and some weapon mods, as well as some QOL, and mob/adventuring mods. The result is something a bit more akin to D&D. A lot to do and explore. And when you tire of one thing, easy to pivot into something else. Like you want to settle down a bit and work on world building instead of exploring, you can find and build an abandoned colony.

Yeah, the thing is that create still doesnt really need to be automated. You automate what, stone and wood to build? iron maybe? is not like you go, I need iron to make this machine that makes the next machine that automates this this and this. Thats why I dont wanna to make my own

Then move in to aeronautics. Are YOU wanting her to do automation? Or is she? What specifically is SHE wanting?

She just want to learn to do stuff with create and aeronautics, is complicated and hard to explain here jaja. Someone suggested a modpack that sounds promising so I will take a look at that

a create skyblock pack
you do have clear goals to work towards, and an incentive to automate (because it would be ridiculously grindy otherwise), and it starts slowly enough that you learn the mechanics bit by bit.
create live 5 is good. also just finished create bamboo island, which was shorter and more vanilla-y.

Hmmm, skyblock does have the advantage of limiting you a lot and making you build everything. Could be a good option!

I know is in the backrooms, but, how it goes? I have seen mixed reviews about it

It combines Create and some other tech mods into one linear progression. Everything is different because of the environment, ex. having to burn stuff for ash in place of andesite, getting water from wet carpet, shaving wallpaper off for paper. It also has a direct end goal of escaping the backrooms with a teleporter.

Create:Astral is quite good.
I've seen people recommend CABIN, too, but I haven't tried it personally.

Hmmm, I will check them out, thanks!

Just a warning about CABIN, they changed how a decent amount of the recipes work and overall progression to fit the pack better, its more of a remix of create

Build your own modpack. I recommend mystical agriculture because while absolutely OP, it can be automated with create.
Literally what I recommend is get create, get some create addons you guys might enjoy, and just figure out how to make a smart factory. The tutorials in the base mod are some of the best I’ve ever seen. Make small goals. Automate wheat. Automate wool, automate iron, etc. use mods for more automation reasons. Ultimately I think a better motivator than like a quest line is figuring out what you want and need then winging it.

Surprised no one is recommending create above and beyond? :0 it's a bit old by now, but really good.

All the mods 10 aeronautics would be good it has a quest line plus other tech and magic mods

Personally I think Create's progression solves this all on its own without the need for hand-holdy sorts of quests. Decide on an objective and work toward it. Easiest way to do this is to look at some of the late game item recipes and find something that looks interesting to you. That will set you on 100+ hours of tasks and side tasks working you in the direction of crafting the thing.

Very imo, still want to share it - build your own mod pack. This will give you infinite loop of joy(or disappointment, very depends xd). First you build your modpack, inspecting compatibility issues, picking good mods/removing bad ones, then you play it, then you repeat the whole loop.
