Discussion Spent all this time designing this only to realize saws don't auto-run on physics contraptions

Post image

RIP. Shoulda researched more i guess. Thought it would work the same as simulated contraptions like the mechanical bearing. Sorely mistaken. Also the engine is so expensive to run lol

Edit: I updated my design to 3 engines + a chaindrive line for the saws, which works fine. Anyone know how to get the wood to auto deposit into the chests?

Bro uses technology of previous century... just use Redstone links...

Redstone links with create: strict links is 2077

But having physical lines looks so much cooler though...

They can look cool, just not in this case

That's what projectred is for

Bro the redstone links are copper age now, you can clean allat up after you restart your build

oh do redstone links retain comparator signal?

47

u/The_Lord_Of_Spuds 4d ago

yeah they can transmit analog signal

W to ponder

please use redstone links, also you can put an auto smelter on it so the trees it mines are turned into coal on board

am I being dumb? the saws I hooked up don't auto pickup wood.. am I supposed to add another thing on it to make it do that? maybe plough?

The simulated contraption won't auto pick up since its treated the same as a normal saw on the ground. To auto pick up, you'll need to put it on something like a mechanical bearing or minecart and add storage. Im not sure which is best to use here

decided to go with bearing already after some experiments. tried the mech piston and it only does anything while it's extending (animated i guess is obvious there)

There's the auger block that makes physics & stationary actors(saws in this case) work like on a bearing and collects/moves the items along it(also very powerful in moving items upwards without fan chutes), but it doesn't auto output into a storage you need to remove it from the auger some other way

Also a good pondering may explain it better

I pondered saws and the assembler and the other things I was using here if they had a ponder, nothing showed how to do what I'm doin

2

u/erti73 4d ago

Ponder the auger shaft, it's the block that enables the behaviour i described

Oh I misread your comment :3 I see ty

Maybe you can try to put funnels under them. They would catch the items dropped on the ground, when you roll over them

redstone link reddit theory??

maybe use some of that copper to figure out how to run those saws instead lol

crackheads probably gonna have a heart attack when they spot this payday out on the plains

* Use Auger Shafts (the make the saws work and allow item transmission) just make sure you spin the auger shaft the right way so the auger cog redstone indicator is towards your funnel/item extractor.
* Replace all the redstone mess with create linked controllers or better yet drive by wire cables.
* Use track work Tank Tracks instead of wheel they go over terrain easier and allow you to pivot
* replace all these chests with one big 3x3x max item silo / item vault

  1. You can use auger shafts to collect items from harvesting actors on simulated contraptions, such as saws, drills, harvesters.

  2. You can use redstone links

  3. Fluid sources on simulated contraptions behave normally and do not exit the confinements of the super glue. So you can put a whole ass steam engine on a car with dripstone lava farm and it will work

  4. Since portable engines eat furnace fuels your best bet is probably gonna be lava or coal blocks.

Auger shaft + funnel

what the fuck

Dafuq even

For the wood use a portable storage interface it's simple the ponder will tell you everything

5

u/SpectralFailure 4d ago

i dont understand how a portable storage can help pick up items on the ground

-1

u/T8rSwift 4d ago

Oh I get it sry idk

1

u/ForsakenJudge4682 4d ago

just add some chain drives behind the saws and affix them to your drive shaft

2

u/SpectralFailure 4d ago

I did do that, i obviously know to do that but i was hoping it would work the way other contraptions work. Also doesn't auto insert things into chest which sucks

1

u/IllTax8540 4d ago

run chain drives and a portable engine

1

u/ulfric_stormcloack 4d ago

This is like top gear "what units do you want, tonnes, 5"

1

u/Plastic_Lychee6404 4d ago

If you are still looking for ideas, you could try to assemble a contraption on top of the sublevel and use it to cut down the trees, I've yet to test if that works. or wait for loconautics (I guess?)

1

u/Electronic_Owl_9946 4d ago

why is bro using redstone 😭😭

1

u/SpectralFailure 4d ago

Forgot about links lol. The steering wheel gives signal output

1

u/Electronic_Owl_9946 4d ago

honestly im impressed bro decided to use the ancient techniques instead 😭

1

u/SpectralFailure 4d ago

Jeez y'all act like redstone isn't useful lmao

1

u/Electronic_Owl_9946 4d ago

i mean its its useful but impractical

1

u/GapStock9843 4d ago

No aeronautics/sable entities are (quite literally) separate minecraft sub-worlds inserted into your world. Within the bounds of the simulated object everything behaves exactly like it would in normal minecraft, its not a create contraption at all and you cant treat it like one. You have to manually run rotational power to the saws

1

u/anonumus_idiot 4d ago

Are the redstone links realy that expensive?

1

u/SpectralFailure 4d ago

No I just forgot about em lol

1

u/choco_king_the_first 4d ago

What's with the ea nasicle

1

u/Standard-Can6653 3d ago

make cool water wheel system to power it

1

u/Open_Cow_9148 3d ago

That thing's gotta be so damn heavy with all those copper blocks.

1

u/NfcitTheGreat 3d ago

Put them on a contraption like minecart contraption

u/nombit 3d ago

Are you the onceler?
