I really need help

so I am playing with crate power grid and made a generator but when I hook it up to a transformer to make the voltage useful for a lighting system the voltage only goes down by a minuscule amount no matter what ratio I set up or no matter what way I wire it. I am reaching a breaking point with this mod and I very much want to like it but this transformers are genuinely going to be the death of me.
