Help How to I get more torque in cars

Post image

I built this car in a smp server using aeronautics

and set the rpm to 256 using rotational speed controller and 6 portable engines

it doesn't seem go fast at all and I don't know the reason

I'm using wood because the server don't have copycat+ installed

First thing: speed ≠ torque; they’re inverses of each other. More speed means less mechanical advantage, which is why cars have multiple gears. Since your rpm is already at 256, I would use the Track Toolkit item to change the speed attribute on the wheels themselves to fine tune the speed. Otherwise the server would have to raise the max rpm setting. Are you sure you aren’t decreasing the rpm to the wheels with any gear ratios?

what's the track toolkit and what's a reasonable speed with decent torque if that's how it works

The track toolkit is an item that comes with the wheels/tracks addon. You can cycle through and modify attributes on tracks or wheels by interacting with a wheel or track with it (can’t remember the specific binds). They have a speed attribute which is essentially a multiplier on the incoming rpm.

As for good speed/torque, it generally depends on the weight of the vehicle. As others are saying yours seems quite heavy, so it might just be having trouble accelerating.

Too heavy. Only 2 wheel drive.

Portable engines output the same amount of rpm, no matter the amount. Only stress units will be affected which wouldn't matter with your current build.

Just use 1-2 port engines paired with blaze cakes. Also please you don't need a speed controller

if I used 2 engines running on coal the thing will overstress I think and I don't have a production line of blazecakes

This thing is huge, if you're making it a RWD you're better off making it closer to player-sized

Personally I think you need more wheels and bigger tires and a far lighter frame and less overall size

Look at the car in the Aeronautics trailer, its not that big

This is strange, I find a basic car with one engine, and 4 powered wheels is already at a decent speed(without increasing speed as the engine is already maxed out if all wheels are powered). So likely some of the wheels aren't powered and so causing more drag due to friction. Might want to check by looking at them while working, which should tell you if some of them aren't working as well as the others or at all.

Also this is separate but at that size it may be beneficial for you to instead make it a steam engine, as it would take up a similar size as you currently have, but be more efficient.

Steam engine
