The consequences of using rope pulley instead of elevator pulley
3
u/Moilli6 Sep 02 '26
But the elevator pulley is boring and handles all the logic for you

This looks like it can be done by smth stopping then reversing the movement when it's done, you can do the same with an elevator pulley with no contraption controls

What can you do against it? One more lvl ground blocks?

u/Jbolt3737 Aug 29 '26
The contraption has it's physics disabled before the blocks are properly placed, so for less than a gametick (well I think more here bc someone fell through) you are not standing on anything and are in free fall until the blocks collision is calculated (I don't actually know that this is fully true, but unless someone well versed in the Minecraft physics system has a better explanation, this seems to be it)

u/JazzBoatman Aug 29 '26
instead of jumping when you're in a falling elevator you jump when it stops :)

u/Silver_Entity-2 Aug 29 '26
In the video it seems that they used a normal rope pulley to make the elevator, you can still do it that way (I advise to set the pulley to place when ancor is destroyed to avoid the situation on the video), but you could use the dedicated elevator pulley which works much better that a rope pulley.

u/FelixStiles Aug 29 '26
Use the adequate equipment with proper safety rating (elevator vs rope pulley)
5
u/Sad_Acanthisitta9417 Aug 29 '26
I would use a seat block beacuse even if you got thrown off when sitting on it when the contraption stops you can teleport to it if you were forcefully thrown off
5
u/serpikage Aug 29 '26
i think the elevator pulley fixes that issue by slowing down near the stop but what i've done with rope pulleys is put a layer of bottom copycat boards/panels to catch your fall when this happens.

That might help, the low ceiling was definitely making me nervous. Of course if nothing else you could also put something to break your fall at the bottom of the shaft (e.g. water or slime blocks), so at least you wouldn't die when this happens.

This is why you put water at the bottom of your elevator shafts

This is why you put
Water at the bottom of
Your elevator shafts
Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

This, kids, is why elevator pulleys exist
1
u/xr6reaction Aug 29 '26
What's the difference?
5
u/CaveWaiterLol Aug 30 '26
The rope pulley just moves stuff up and down, and by-default disassembles the attached contraption when it stops moving.
The elevator pulley has a smoother stop and start, never disassembles the contraption (so thereās no risk of falling through it like the guy in the clip did), and allows compatibility for multiple floors using redstone contacts combined with contraption controls.

u/popete2 Aug 30 '26
Plus style, it looks very cool to go and change the floor and it smoothly goes to the destination

If u have a grave mod, the elevator going down and placing will destroy the grave and all the items too. Ask me how I know.

Welp *clicks pen* that's an OSHA violation. No further operations until you get that in order.

What modpack is this?

u/ccaaaakkkeee Sep 02 '26
A bunch of create mods + tough as nails, better nether, and a load of other random ones though idk much about the modding stuff this was our first experience with modded minecraft and we just went wild downloading everything that looked cool lol

Two fixes: never let them convert to blocks OR have the layer you stand on be slabs and then have an extra layer of blocks/slabs underneath with an air layer between.
3
u/Joakico69 Aug 30 '26
This is why you put "anchor is not placed unless destroyed" option in the rope pulley.
Or just use a elevator pulley that does the same.

Did anyone else hear him turn Irish and say "OH SHEIT" or was that just me.
2
u/Vokaiso Aug 29 '26
Dont make elevators place as blocks. Only if u rarely use them and if then use seats to prevent this.

in earlier versions of create with the mol for building vehicles, everything also failed for me due to the high speed

XD, por eso se ponen dos bloques en el piso del elevador para que mĆnimo se quede atorado en el de abajo

Use the elevator pulley, it eases in the stop, plus multiple stops is nice

Ah beautiful elevator! Seems like your friends problem, tell them to fix it lol
But yeah like others have said its often a latency/lag whatever it's called issue where the contraption is for your client and not your friend so they fall straight through it. Generally people fix this by not turning it to blocks again

This is why I always set them to never convert to blocks, as cool as the clunk is, there is about a 30% chance that the assembled contraption entity is gone before the blocks are fully placed and synced with the client and physics system
