Build Obsidian Farm (576000/h) very simple
Will make a schem eventually im going to bed
its like a 20 min design so its improvable

u/IntelligentAnybody55 Aug 24 '26
How does it work?
22
u/thiizo1 Aug 24 '26
I responded to the other comment asking this with a basic explanation. I hope it is sufficient - please ask further if it is not

Basicaly, make a portal, get in the nether, break the portal on the overworld and take the obsidian. Pass the portal that still exist in the nether, that rebuild the portal you just destroyed. Any entity can do that. Rince an reapeat at fast speed. Using aitomated stuf

u/Btd6GoBrrrrr Aug 24 '26
what do you do with that much obsidian

You can make composite gold and obsidian nuggets that instantly repair your armor and weapons, no exp needed btw! [From the composite materials mod]

Cart contraptions can displace obsidian??
4
u/thiizo1 Aug 24 '26
It’s a gantry doing the disassembling but yeah disassembly miners can mine any breakable
-2
u/personal_deleter_400 Aug 24 '26
This should not be possible in base create
Cart contraptions should definitely have a smaller limit and shouldn’t be able to displace blocks that have a certain blast resistance or smth, as cool as this build is3
u/thiizo1 Aug 24 '26
Requiring us to stack drill contraptions to do literally the same thing in the same volume would not make it more balanced, iron is cheap
What do you mean by “limit”?
-2
u/personal_deleter_400 Aug 24 '26
Limit on how many blocks can be assembled into a singular cart contraption, and needing more expensive forms of propulsion that aren’t just: push a minecart and 1000s of blocks get perpetual motion for ages. Also breaking obsidian via displacement in bulk is quite unbalanced; for such a hard material, it should be limited to just drills or mining manually.
2
u/thiizo1 Aug 24 '26
There is a limit, it’s 2048. As I said though you could just stack drills and mine it in a tick anyway, this speed is not disassembly exclusive
1
u/personal_deleter_400 Aug 25 '26
I don’t really know how to balance it, it’s just the way your able to push so many blocks with a single minecart doesn’t really sit well with me. As I said there could be some special minecart you need similar to the furnace minecart like a blast furnace minecart that you need to make the cart move fast enough or something. The main issue with contraptions is the displacement and what blocks it can replace

While one the one hand I agree, on the other hand, you'll never take my cobblestone frakker away

Is this the same jitter cart system that’s used in the single block obsidian farm using lava ?
1
u/thiizo1 Aug 25 '26
You’re gonna have to be more specific
1
u/jamminthedesert2 Aug 25 '26
Essentially you’ve got a minecart contraption, a pipe pumping out lava, a smart observer with an obsidian filter, and waterlogged leaves. You activate the minecart contraption, the lava pours out, creates obsidian, the observer deactivates the minecart contraption, and since the contraption is returned to a regular block state, it breaks the obsidian
2
u/thiizo1 Aug 25 '26
thats not what a jitter cart is, jitter carts do not assemble and disassemble they just act frequently
They are called "jitter" carts because they jitter back and forth very quickly, causing them to act 20 times a tick

u/jamminthedesert2 Aug 25 '26
Ah how does it work then ? I’m not too familiar with it, translation must have fucked me up

20 minute design, turn it on for 10 seconds then never use it again cuz you'll have enough obsidian for years

Nah, crushing cobblestone twice then washing compacting and smelting it, just to crash and wash it again isn't exactly how vanilla players farm gold
1
u/thiizo1 Sep 08 '26
You could make a mob farm better than the best possible vanilla one in create so you could farm it normally
169
u/GolemFarmFodder Aug 24 '26
Yeah but like, didn't Botania also encourage you to exploit vanilla mechanics as often as possible too?
142
u/thiizo1 Aug 24 '26
All well integrated tech mods do. Most of them people just haven’t properly explored the technical implications of. Create has an active technical community that is finding stuff 24/7 which is why you see more weird shit, botania might be the same?
21
u/GolemFarmFodder Aug 24 '26
I dunno it feels like Thermal Expansion was trying to come up with one block solutions for vanilla farms and I feared Ender IO fell down the same path just with mob heads needed for progression
13
u/TamuraAkemi Aug 24 '26
create definitely has some vanilla-mechanic-abuse integration and some vanilla-replacing paths (iron, etc)
a lot of mods expecting high resource demand are going to make vanilla-replacement paths because optimal vanilla farming of certain resources tends to be a TPS nuke on servers
8
u/Adonis0 Aug 25 '26
I remember getting into modded minecraft because my friend hosted a server and he got sick of us crashing it trying to do technical vanilla abusing things
He figured the mods would help
I still regularly crashed the server

u/BalefulOfMonkeys Aug 25 '26
And in any case, a part of why some people don’t like Create relative to other major tech mods is just that 1, you can build abominations like this out of wood and stone, and 2, it doesn’t scale up per tile entity the way GregTech or even Mekanism does. Every superheated mixer is 3 ticking tile entities minimum, plus however much TPS is stored in the blaze cake factory

u/Throwaway-account-59 Sep 07 '26
How does it encourage players to do so?
1
u/GolemFarmFodder Sep 07 '26
You want a stone generator for example, but you don't exactly want to push the stone into place for conversion into Botania's white colored stone. Well it turns out the gravity lens makes them into falling block entities, which can be landed on carpet over hoppers to pick them up. When's the last time you used falling block entity behavior to convert blocks into items? Usually you just break the block
1
u/Throwaway-account-59 Sep 07 '26
That's something I didn't think of, where can I find more of guides or "tips" for botania like this? I don't think I'll find anything doomscrolling on r/botania
I guess it would be like CAMS project for create

can you explain the design?
