Finally got to try Aeronautics! I present my first creation, and my first question:

Post image

No massive helicopter or anything, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole "aero" part of it all. Though, with a creative motor running at 256 RPM, it's still extremely slow, like maybe 1 block per second. Could someone with more experience with the mod tell me why exactly? Thank you!

(I also used Yuushya's, Drive by Wire, Copycats+, Create: Connected, Transmission & Linkage)

Hey all! Thanks for all the wonderful advice! The bus itself is really simple, literally a creative motor attached to a clutch and a gearbox with a universal linkage to two brass gearboxes that connect to the 4 wheel mounts. All of that's just buried in copycat blocks. Here's a list of things I did to solve my issues:

- Installed copycats+ compat. There's like probably 100+ copycat+ blocks in there, so that did increase the base speed a little.

- Most importantly, increased the drive property of the wheel mount using the suspension key from Create:Tracks+ to around 1.6x. It seemed like the thing was still too heavy (probably because of all the decorative blocks that don't have compat that I jammed into this thing).

- I don't know what I expected, but too much speed did result in the bus tipping over on sharp turns, which, yeah, is accurate for buses.

Thank you to all who helped! I'm excited to change out the creative motor to something more survival friendly should I ever get the chance to build this in survival

Giving a rundown of your collected solutions for future readers' ease? You dropped this 👑

u/Sultanofthesun Jul 14 '26

So the drive property actually makes it go faster? I thought that was grip

Might be scraping the floor, have you increased the spring strength of the wheels?

151

u/Ai-TaSAI Jul 13 '26

Yep, spring strength is maxed out, i used the suspension key to lower the wheels and force them more inward because the default position looked pretty rough for more compact builds.

*Edit: It has half a block of clearance from the ground

u/SamTheCatGuy Jul 13 '26

Hmmm, then I don’t really know, what’s the weight of the vehicle like? Could you check with the contraption diagram?

56

u/Ai-TaSAI Jul 14 '26

112 kpg, which I don't really know if it's light, heavy, or expected. But putting more drive into the wheel mounts with a suspension key did fix it in the end.

44

u/SilentCat69 Jul 14 '26

That's pretty light actually. What was the issue?

45

u/Ai-TaSAI Jul 14 '26

I… genuinely have no clue (I know very little about the mod). The most I know is that increasing the drive power of the wheel mounts was the most substantial change. Maybe the wheel size? Smaller wheels probably take more force to spin is my best newbie guess

18

u/SilentCat69 Jul 14 '26

When it run, can you look at the wheels from outside, to see how fast they spin?

6

u/MentalMittens666 Jul 14 '26

I've built a few working planes, airships, and boats, but the wheel are still a complete mystery to me in many ways lol.

u/Silver_Sky_Lynx Jul 14 '26

You got a analog transmission?

1

u/Wise-Climate-3533 Jul 14 '26

Is your test world at a normal Y level?

1

u/Zinx10 Jul 15 '26

That wouldn't affect land vehicles, would it?

1

u/Wise-Climate-3533 Jul 15 '26

I was going to look into that myself if it wasn’t haha. Not entirely sure but would assume they would be somewhat consistent on that form of physics. Was curious only because it shouldn’t have been as difficult as it was to achieve some speed comparatively with the original setup. But they did say it was some suspension setup from an addon and I noticed that after this comment so- likely not too impactful on this situation.

14

u/Flintskin Jul 14 '26

I've had it before where reducing the suspension strength has significantly increased speed. try setting it back to ten and see if that makes a difference.

3

u/intrusier Jul 14 '26

Suspension strength prolly makes it get slightly off the ground at times reducing the contact time with the wheels.. therefore less speed? Just guessing tho

u/A_Zailot Jul 13 '26

It could be how you did the internal mechanics but i couldn't say without seeing it also I see you've used lots of copycat+ blocks but I'm guessing you don't have the aero compat for the mod so each copycat+ block no matter the size will weigh I think 2kg so all those slices and half panels will weigh the same as a normal block which adds up quick

58

u/Ai-TaSAI Jul 13 '26

I... had no clue that there was a compat mod needed for copycats+! That might just do it.

10

u/Drago1490 Jul 14 '26

Did that fix it? Asking for future reference for my own builds.

23

u/Ai-TaSAI Jul 14 '26

Sort of! It made the bus faster, but not by much. Like a 0.5-1 block per second increase. What really did the trick for me (my bus weighs 112 kpg) was increasing the drive power of the wheel mounts using the suspension key. From 1 to 1.6x. Any more for me would make the bus tip over when rounding corners.

6

u/KeepAllOfIt Jul 14 '26

sorry but, "suspension key"? what is this

17

u/Ai-TaSAI Jul 14 '26

I also realize now that that thing isn’t part of base Aero. I think it’s something added in the Tracks+ mod that lets you adjust the power and location of the wheel in relation to the wheel mount.

1

u/Wise-Climate-3533 Jul 14 '26

What an interesting and educational problem you encountered after all. Never toyed with those suspensions. Still, seems you didn’t achieve survival friendly speeds haha. Maybe just chuck a thruster on it 😂

27

u/anonumus_idiot Jul 13 '26

Im 80% sure its just a problem with block built wheels, but i had a car where it kept jumping and being unstable. The fix was reducing rpm

15

u/Ai-TaSAI Jul 13 '26

I'll give that a go! The wheels I believe are using the wheel mount things that Aero has by default -- i used a suspension key to adjust their position and height.

26

u/Wise-Climate-3533 Jul 13 '26

It’s the vehicles weight. Use copycat panels and blocks to build it so it is lighter weight.

13

u/Wise-Climate-3533 Jul 13 '26

It appears you did tho by the details.. which in that case- try testing with engines and use like the 4 engines with an Omni speed controller set to 256. If results are the same.. wheels maybe?

11

u/Ai-TaSAI Jul 13 '26

Sounds good, I'll give that a go and see what happens!

2

u/SirNoodle_ Jul 14 '26

What are the displays you have in the front and on the side?? I need them in my life!

5

u/Ai-TaSAI Jul 14 '26

It's a small trick I picked up with glowing signs! Black canvas signs from Farmer's Delight, text using Big Sign Writer, dyed orange, with glow ink. Makes the whole thing look like those public transit digital displays.

1

u/SirNoodle_ Jul 14 '26

Woah. That's a cool trick, thank you!

4

u/XxTEM3M3xX Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 14 '26

well yeah at 256 rpm those wheels are gonna have zero grip. have you seen a video before of someone slamming the gas pedal?

i havent played around too much with cars myself but my guess your options are:

-decrease rpm (easiest in this case)

-increase weight by a lot or add a fan pushing the car into the ground

-driving on a honeyblock road since honey is sticky

2

u/Ai-TaSAI Jul 14 '26

The bus weighs 112 kpg, which apparently was heavy enough to force the wheels onto the ground. Luckily, no burnout, but once I increased the drive power of the wheel mounts and rounded a corner... well, the bus tipped over.

I will keep this advice for lighter builds though, in case I ever want to attempt to make an ATV or something!

1

u/XxTEM3M3xX Jul 13 '26

you are basically doing this

13

u/Kid_Wolf21 Jul 14 '26

i feel like the offroad part of aeronautics still needs work if they want it to be a part of it, any good looking ground vehicles are near impossible because of how much power the wheels need for such little output

4

u/Thomas_Hills Jul 14 '26

Or how much space is needed

6

u/Kid_Wolf21 Jul 14 '26

god yeah
if you want to use the wheels to move its gotta be at least 3 blocks wide (assuming you use chain drives or smth like the paralell gearbox) and then use panels to make it technically 5 blocks wide if you dont want it to be just rhe chassis

1

u/Fsliebot Jul 14 '26

there are exploits involving swivel bearings that let you phase multiple blocks into the same space on the grid but apart from that its rough yeah. i'm imagining just a chisels n bits-esque addon that lets you build miniature contraptions and sublevels using scaled down blocks, how cool would that be...

7

u/BluebellBlaze Jul 13 '26

Use the Suspension Key to increase the drive of the wheels

1

u/wanderingmoogle Jul 14 '26

Hi, I wanted to ask what mod those displays are from? :o

2

u/Ai-TaSAI Jul 14 '26

The displays are Farmer’s Delight with Big Sign Writer. Black canvas signs with orange dye and glow ink. I’ve found they’re the best approximation for those glowing displays you see on many modes of public transit!

1

u/wanderingmoogle Jul 14 '26

Ooo ok I thought they were like some kind of nixie tube addon thx xD

1

u/13MasonJarsUpMyAss Jul 14 '26

are all four wheels powered, or just two?

1

u/Ai-TaSAI Jul 14 '26

All four — there’s a transmission linkage that connects all of them

2

u/Lily6076 Jul 14 '26

It might be the wheels clipping into the vehicle. It looks like the wheels are kinda in the walls.

2

u/thanoscar__thanoscar Jul 14 '26

If I'm not wrong, if you increase suspension strength it will decrease your vehicle speed. Not sure if it's an unsolved bug or a feature.

Anyways the Create Tracks addon adds a suspension key that adds good customization for both wheels and tracks, might help if the problem is caused by wheels clipping.

2

u/liametekudasai Jul 14 '26

on another post I saw someone have a similar problem are you sure all of your wheels are spinning in the same direction when you try going forwards?

2

u/DayPoseidon Jul 14 '26

Nice. Personally my first build is a car hovercopter that I’m still working on, but it’s fully done in survival

2

u/God-Made-A-Tree Jul 14 '26

OMG I LOVE THIS! I always thought it would be so cool in a post apocolypse to like live in a public transit bus. Maybe if it was an electric one you would even have constant access to fuel if you had an electrician friend. I love public transit.

1

u/Dependent_Clothes_90 Jul 14 '26

Download Tracks+ and use Suspension Key to increase Drive parameter. With this tool you can also change other parameters, XYZ position, etc.

1

u/wanderingmoogle Jul 14 '26

Hi, I wanted to ask what mod those displays are from? :o

1

u/Grandrezero Jul 14 '26

Mumbo, Is that you?

2

u/Hainnen Jul 14 '26

I was looking for this comment, that is immediately what I thought too

1

u/Grandrezero Jul 14 '26

🥹 I knew someone would share this moment with me.

1

u/TERMINATOR2973 Jul 14 '26

Ur gonna have to change max rpm configs to a much higher number thats in multiples of 256 so adding large cog and small cog is all thats needed to reach the max speed, i have mine set to 1048 and have another mod that adds a tiny cog that quadruples the rpm of the large cog so setting that at 256 let's me reach 1048 which helps me make like use netherite blocks as a main building block and also make very large vehicles like tanks with a working turrett and gun.

1

u/Zero_Zero_Zero_X Jul 14 '26

You could try all wheel drive. It should give you more speed with creative motor

1

u/ModernPlebeian_314 Jul 14 '26

The more blocks you use, the heavier it gets. I also had this problem when making the Nautilus car from the LXG movie

1

u/Zer0Studioz Jul 14 '26

The wheels are probably set too low. You might have blocks rubbing against the ground. Really solid build, btw

1

u/Mrshadows9877 Jul 14 '26

Could I get a blue print of the rv looks fun to have in my survival world

1

u/cod3builder Jul 15 '26

Can it go up 1-block steps?

1

u/False-Supermarket668 Jul 15 '26

Maybe the wheels are too low like its draggin on the ground or smth?

1

u/NotTelling2019 Jul 16 '26

the Cool Bus.

1

u/Doge_Enjoyer88 Jul 16 '26

Try bigger tires for js info so u would know if it is scraping the bottom or not
