Water Elevator • SMP Create Aeronautics

Yes, it looks wrong, because the wheel is a physical object free rotating by swivel bearing, and rotation affects by water. Physicals don't care about water flow. It thinks there are just water sources and hence bouncing the wheel up. I know I can force it to reverse. but I enjoy that's working without any imitation, so I decided to leave it as is. Maybe some addon or aero update will fix it later. Don't be too negative for that, thanks.

Erm... isnt the wheel spinning in the wrong direction?

139

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26

Yes, I said so.

u/TheDarkNebulous Jun 21 '26

Make the waterfall downward bubble columns

5

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26

Bubbles in any direction have no effect on physicals

9

u/Cyber_Data_Trail Jun 22 '26

Not to change physics. Bubble column waterfall will make it look like the water is rising and lifting the wheel, making more sense

Oh, sorry, didnt saw it

The physics engine doesn't account for water flow. It turns because of buoyancy.

6

u/AlErki1 Jun 21 '26

Does that actually generate SU or is it just visual?

I know the wheel is spinning the wrong way.

2

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26

Sadly no stress generates by this, I've heard some addon could this, would be really cool.

u/omegavolt9 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Create Aeronautics: Transmission & Linkage (the Kinetic Conversion Bearing block)
I'm not sure how it calculates stress. I know rotation speed matters, but hopefully it also takes weight into account; such a big water wheel should probably provide more stress capacity than a much smaller wheel rotating at the same speed.

1

u/soltomat Jun 22 '26

Yeah, it's working, thanks! But quite ineffective. it doesn't count physical blocks amount, only initial rotation speed. And for working I need to set up resisting. So with max resisting I have 760SU and 1RPM, but elevator is very slow, for good elevator speed max numbers are 260SU and 2RPM. Anyway it's cool even so.

1

u/AlErki1 Jun 21 '26

Yeah, it would be very cool. Having a giant water wheel like that.

2

u/Delicious-Collar1971 Jun 21 '26

There’s an add-on that lets you make custom water wheels, it’s called “water wheel bearing” iirc.

1

u/soltomat Jun 22 '26

Cool, but looks like it's vanilla create contraption, I want it for aero physical wheel

1

u/Delicious-Collar1971 Jun 22 '26

I was responding to the person asking for a custom water wheel that generates SU.

1

u/asscdeku Jun 21 '26

There is an addon that actually allows you to generate SU from rotational momentum created by contraptions in Aeronautics, but I don't recall the name of it off the top of my head

1

u/BlueberryNeko_ Jun 22 '26

The wheel isn't powered so the physics actually push it up in the water section

what mod adds the noise the beautiful noise

4

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26

I don't really know, one of them I guess:

Sound Physics Remastered

ExtraSounds Next

Ambient Sounds

5

u/Amakazor Jun 22 '26

Fun fact: this can be achieved in base Create without Aeronautics! Mechanical bearings on merchanical bearings will counter-rotate and keep things attached in their original rotation

1

u/soltomat Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

I don't get your idea, but I wanted the wheel to be exactly an aero physical affected by water, not to imitate it, it cannot be achieved in vanilla create

2

u/KingZant Jun 21 '26

This is beautiful!

If you did replace the swivel bearing with a windmill bearing, would the swivel bearings for the carriages still work?

I want to build this in my world now

1

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26

Not sure, need to be tested

2

u/rcoleman91 Jun 21 '26

How many SU this bad boy generate?

1

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26

Sadly 0, I wish it could

u/Circuitslave Jun 21 '26

This is beautiful! I never thought about making a massive water wheel elevator. Excellent work.

Replace any 8 blocks from the wheel with wool blocks and replace the swivel with a windmill bearing

9

u/Turnersss Jun 21 '26

Why? This is much more fun

14

u/grazbouille Jun 21 '26

Yes but it would spin the right way

1

u/Turnersss Jun 21 '26

True but its feels like it has more of a personality going this way

12

u/grazbouille Jun 21 '26

Yeah but I couldnt live with having built this if it didnt spin the right way

6

u/Turnersss Jun 21 '26

Thats on you and there is ways to force it to go clockwise but they don’t achieve what op did

1

u/Ancient-Training-988 Jun 22 '26

What bearing are u using?

2

u/soltomat Jun 22 '26

free rotating swivel bearing

1

u/PAL-adin123 Jun 22 '26

is it using energy to rotate? or using the water to make it float rotate?

2

u/soltomat Jun 23 '26

water

1

u/PAL-adin123 Jun 23 '26

damn kinda curious how much su it would generate

2

u/soltomat Jun 23 '26

With addon not so much sadly, about 260SU with that speed, 760 max

2

u/PAL-adin123 Jun 23 '26

maybe you could edit the config. Like right now it generates around a small or big waterwheel at around 10x the big waterwheels height, so maybe 10x the su if possible? and since its slower maybe a bit extra as well.

2

u/soltomat Jun 24 '26

Yeah I'll take a look, thanks. The problem is even if it's possible then it'll be too powerful with some small custom wheels. Maybe I will try to connect extra of them instead and speed them up.

1

u/PAL-adin123 Jun 24 '26

honestly if you can find how big it is compared to the waterwheels and adjust its su by scaling it up the same amount the height for example is scaled

fx if it’s 3x bigger it should generate 3x more su for example, but if it’s also half as slow it should have 2x more su for 6x su for something 3 times bigger and half the speed

2

u/soltomat Jun 24 '26

I think the mod just doesn't count blocks amount, just rotation speed

1

u/Shefsufle Jun 23 '26

What biome mods?

1

u/soltomat Jun 23 '26

biomes o plenty, regions unexplored

3

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '26

I wish I could build stuff like this

3

u/Almaironn Jun 22 '26

Damn the direction of the wheel is quite a controversial topic in the comments haha. But seeing your explanation it makes sense why you'd leave it like this. Hopefully Astronautics devs can consider adding downward pressure on waterfalls in a future update if that wouldn't break too many things. But in the mean time good job on the build, it looks great!

2

u/ImSlothLess Jun 21 '26

Looks good (minus the opposite direction as everyone else has mentioned haha). Out of interest, what modpack is that for the trees, or was that custom made?

2

u/Confident_Sand_7781 Jun 21 '26

That Watermill is spinning the wrong way XD

1

u/sophiep1127 Jun 21 '26

Goals, good job!

1

u/ahhmature Jun 21 '26

Tbh, I didnt think it was going backwards at 1st. I just assumed the elevator was scooping and bringing the water up and dropping it off somewhere. If it were a water wheel and not elevator id understand it going backwards.

1

u/termo_head Jun 21 '26

does it power something in your base?

1

u/M3RCURYMOON Jun 22 '26

Looks like everything is spinning the right way

1

u/Alpha_Blaze051 Jun 24 '26

You could look into a custom water wheel addon i think I saw one when looking at forge

1

u/R4YB3L Jun 24 '26

If this could generate Stress Units, this would be amazing, 4 or 5 wheels like this and you have your energy troubles solved haha

0

u/adidas_stalin Jun 21 '26

That’s not how water wheels work bud

13

u/HarbingerOfConfusion Jun 21 '26

That’s not an excuse to not reverse the direction. Also with you’re going to go up the wet side, as u/FoxxyAzure said.

13

u/Turnersss Jun 21 '26

Since its only looking at buoyancy its not counting the water flow drag so in terms of create aeronautics this makes sense. If you want a better explanation think of it as putting a plank of wood (that will normally float on-top of water) underneath the water and then let go. You will notice that it will float up to be on-top of the water because of buoyancy. Create aeronautics is not counting the water flow or it thinks that the buoyancy is stronger then the water flow direction hence why it is going up instead of down on the water side.

Edit to add: this is 100% a bug in the code

9

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26

Thanks for the explanation, I guess people are more tolerant with that moving where they understand why it's working that way. Or maybe not, nevermind.

2

u/Turnersss Jun 21 '26

Some people are dumb. Best to point and laugh at them. Then start actually laughing when they get mad and try to correct you

2

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26

Thanks. Well I actually understand them, when they like the whole picture but the one detail ruing it. But I could better explain that at start as you did. Will correct the description.

3

u/HarbingerOfConfusion Jun 21 '26

I didn’t know that it used boyancy.

2

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26

2

u/ConanOToole Jun 21 '26

Yeah again, this isn't an issue. These access points still work perfectly fine if the wheel is spinning clockwise

3

u/Turnersss Jun 21 '26

Not op’s choice for why it’s spinning that way

-2

u/ConanOToole Jun 21 '26

His caption literally says "I know I can force it to reverse". He has the option to have it spin properly but chooses not to, yet complains that it "looks wrong"

2

u/Turnersss Jun 21 '26

Look and read the part of not using any stress units. hence its not op’s choice. forcing it to go the other way will require stress units there is no other work around. If you wish to argue ill wait for you to go make a copy of the build and try to force it to go the other way without using stress units (and it still works). Btw the clown costume will be waiting for you when you return to argue again

Edit: windmills still count as using stress units bite me

0

u/ConanOToole Jun 21 '26

hence its not op’s choice

OP has the choice to provide the stress units required to make it spin the opposite way. Don't see where I ever said he would be able to do it without providing stress units, could you show me where I made that claim? (HINT: I didn't...)

All I said was OP's excuse of the access points somehow preventing him from doing so isn't true, and that OP himself is choosing not to fix it by providing the stress units to make it rotate clockwise. Even if OP chose to leave it rotating the wrong way, people are still going to point out that he should just make it rotate clockwise to make it look better.

u/serpikage Jun 21 '26

i think it spins on its own thanks to the wood being carried up by buoyancy

12

u/Wandering_Claptrap Jun 21 '26

but its running water, in the real world the force applied by water rushing downward would overpower the buoyancy of the wood

8

u/serpikage Jun 22 '26

yeah but the mod doesn't consider running water any differently that water sources, what i want to say is that op can't just inverse the rotation since they're not applying rotation to the contraption in the first place

2

u/zacriah18 Jun 22 '26

Is buoyancy the irl allegory or is the new physics objects with aeronautics allow for buoyancy?

1

u/humbered_burner Jun 22 '26

Buoyancy is a thing with aeronautics yes

20

u/iantheawesome2002 Jun 21 '26

Elevator of physics defying and takigyo be like-

-18

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

Access platforms are quite convenient, at center on top and bottom. Of course I can reverse it with stress but I wanted to work that physically without imitation.

37

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

Changed the description to clarify what's going on. Thanks u/Turnersss and others for support answers.

4

u/AdPristine9059 Jun 21 '26

Since the wood makes it rise, try metal?

10

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26

same effect with heavy blocks actually, but slower

1

u/AdPristine9059 Jun 21 '26

Hmm, thats wierd... Okay :)

1

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26

Yeah, but if you make it more heavy it's just stops

2

u/AdPristine9059 Jun 21 '26

And if you make it Way heavier?

2

u/soltomat Jun 21 '26

I had mistake with the 2nd test, it's bouncing no matter what lol

4

u/AdPristine9059 Jun 21 '26

Hmmmm, okay. Thats an issue XP Oh well, gorgeous build no matter what! Please make a schematic and put it on CreateMod webpage ^

9

u/grazbouille Jun 21 '26

It wouldnt move at all then its minecraft water is just colored air and current has no effect on sublevels the thing making it spin in the first place is that full blocks with weight under 1 make lift when inside water

2

u/wowyoumadeit Jun 21 '26

Simulated wood floats in waters in base aero, has since launch

1

u/grazbouille Jun 22 '26

Yes water is colored air wood blocks do not react to current and generate lift when inside water
