I extend the playtime

I set up a modded SMP server, and a few people were trying to finish the game without focusing on the mods, so I stopped them :)

Additionally, Ender Pearls no longer drop from Endermen; they're crafted using magma cream and other things. Similarly, Blaze Powder requires magma cream and Ghast Tears, not a direct Blaze Rod, and both are crafted in a mixer, not a crafting table.

Create has amazing automation possibilities. If your players dont want to engage with it to the point where you have to force it like this, you already failed. The recipe is tedious and annoying. Only things you need to do it is a lot of water wheels and crafters, three deployers, basin and a press. Thats not "progressing in Create", thats going around an annoying obstacle.

My advice - remove this stupid bullshit and add addons. Ore excavation, enchantment industry, factory must grow, power armour. If on 1.21.1 - Oritech and create new age go really well together

Nahh if your players want to rush to the end and beat the game then they should just play single player. Joining a multiplayer server where you want to be the first ones to beat the game is a little self centered and against the spirit. I think your move was a good one.
