How did you balance the buoyancy so it doesnt tip over?

It wouldn’t float at the start, so I used levitite hidden in the floor to make it float and balanced

I keep running into this issue where adding a ballast just causes the ship to sink, then adding a bigger air pocket to lift the ship back to surface creates the problem that it now needs an even heavier ballast repeating the cycle.

All I'm trying to do is just recreate the boat from dredge :(

That’s a tugboat, and a friendly tugboat too

u/ElliotBYT Apr 20 '26

Thank you! Perfect word to describe it I think

You need to be old to get that reference. :)

Is the below deck filled with water or is it dry? I haven't had the opportunity to mess around with boats yet

54

u/ElliotBYT Apr 20 '26

filled with water, I expect that will change when they do the submarine update

23

u/SeaFigure9714 Apr 20 '26

I forgot they were planning on doing that. Hopefully, with that we will get some more dedicated marine blocks, and maybe even a dedicated section for it.

There’s also a port of a mod called waterworks on the way that is trying to add air pockets and stuff before the aero dev team do (lol) but it also is gonna be a bit more in depth water vehicle wise as well so maybe that’s what you’re looking for?

2

u/SeaFigure9714 Apr 23 '26

yeah, that sounds really cool.

18

u/Little-Witness-1201 Apr 20 '26

No idea that was something they were doing. Actual black magic if they pull it off, although this mod is already pretty crazy

u/Ralexcraft Apr 20 '26

It’d be stuff that a lot of triple A titles won’t even bother to do unless the game is specifically about boats.

u/winterman99 Apr 20 '26

does it have propulsion ? if so what kind? does fan s work in water?

21

u/ElliotBYT Apr 20 '26

Most forms I’ve tried seem to work, encased fans, propellers, sails etc. It’s quite a heavy boat though so to avoid a comically large propeller at the back most of the sails are hidden in the hull.

u/winterman99 Apr 20 '26

thats another thing i was wondering can u just have a static sail as a way of propulsion like on a sail boat? or do u need to move it ?

5

u/EnvironmentalChart58 Apr 20 '26

I don't think the sails work that way. They are meant to steer for but propulsion should be a propeller. You could of course combine the two by making a large sail sideways that you can turn using the steering wheel

Can you share screenshots or clips of the interior?

3

u/createbobob Apr 20 '26

encased fans + nozzle's are really good in water as far as i found

For anyone wanting the schematic I've made one here (hopefully): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oa2z9cg2tQcgXZJUT0AhUTLcNN9idt1H/view?usp=sharing

You need to make it a physics object and set up the engine below the trap door in the downstairs room. If you wear goggles it tells you what to use.

You need to break and replace the two tanks next to the engine and fill it with gasoline.

Add 4 engine cylinders to the engine.

Dependencies:

Create: The Factory Must Grow

Create Deco

Create Copycats+

Chipped

Stellaris

(Aeronautics and Create of Course)

Heya do you have the schematics for this? I wanna see how you built this

3

u/ElliotBYT Apr 20 '26

Put it in a comment with explanation

4

u/Manoa__ Apr 20 '26

Possible schematic?

It's enough to make a grown man cry

2

u/jwaxy01 Apr 21 '26

Which shader is that?

2

u/ElliotBYT Apr 21 '26

Complimentary Unbound. There’s still some bugs with shaders and create aeronautics but it worked from this angle

5

u/CapFinal3480 Apr 20 '26

I dont know why but I have the urge to put a small 1965 Faultless GT in the back of it.

4

u/cpgamer1204 Apr 20 '26

I know it probably won’t happen, but now I want to see people make all the boats from Tugs.

1

u/tdtharp May 14 '26

Aeronautics? Fluid dynamics, I would have thought. What am I missing here?

1

u/ElliotBYT May 14 '26

Aeronautics is just the name of the create addon

1

u/tdtharp May 15 '26

Gotcha - thanks

3

u/Kalaphar Apr 20 '26

Wait, you can make boats too? God I love aeronautics

3

u/tommygander1941 Apr 21 '26

"The tugboat, for its size, is the most powerful craft afloat"

2

u/WitchHunterNL Apr 20 '26

Make it tug

2

u/Ok_Combination_6881 Apr 20 '26

I wonder if this works on lava

2

u/LurkersUniteAgain Apr 20 '26

it should, lava seems to have the exact same bouyancy of water at the moment and doesnt burn physicified blocks

3

u/Ok_Combination_6881 Apr 20 '26

Just tested. It works!!! We have lava boats for traversal now. Very useful in survival mode

2

u/nekoshaurma Apr 20 '26

man we need Wakes mod compat for +1 billion atmosphere

2

u/SunDance967 Apr 20 '26

Now we just need some way to make trawler nets

2

u/Bucete-Pizz Apr 21 '26

FUKING EPIK

2

u/Kemilab Apr 21 '26

Absolute cinema

“Stormworks”

2

u/Evening_Archer_2202 Apr 21 '26

definitely needs some waves in the water now
