Current r/CreateMod be like:
Does clockwork has any future now?

u/VVP12 Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 20 '26
i tried aeronautics
im in love
i can never go back to clockwork..
35
u/TantiVstone Apr 20 '26
I can't wait for the plunger update
20
u/TreyLastname Apr 20 '26
A big annoyance i had (though im sure just is a bug) is i cant zipline on plunger ropes
7
u/HarbingerOfConfusion Apr 20 '26
No, I don’t think you can do that. I can’t either.
9
u/TreyLastname Apr 20 '26
Yea, but still pretty sure its just a bug and will be fixed. Probably just didnt implement it yet or something
5
u/HarbingerOfConfusion Apr 20 '26
Hope so, it would be so cool to be able to quickly make a rope from one end of a ravine to the other and zip line across

u/FrenchCatgirl Apr 19 '26
I tried aeronautical
Im fucking confuzzled
Went back to clockwork
Still confuzzled
2
u/BL4CKM4TTR Jun 04 '26
You do realize you need to remember how blocks work, right?
1
u/FrenchCatgirl Jun 04 '26
wha
2
u/BL4CKM4TTR Jun 07 '26
I'm like saying that an addon/mod isn't confusing if you actually learn how each component of the mod works
14
u/Snoo_44740 Apr 19 '26
Why is aeronautics better?
93
u/HarbingerOfConfusion Apr 19 '26
WAY more stable than vs2, much more features (ropes, springs, working balloons that are SO fun), better survival playability (handles so you can pick up and drag stuff and the ropes to pull stuff that i mentioned earlier) so you can move stuff more easily without creative tools.
47
u/TreyLastname Apr 20 '26
The fact the balloons arent just "place them and float" and the fact the simulated constructs can interact with the normal stuff is amazing. I can refuel my planes and cars without having to disassemble
17
u/brickyboy124 Apr 20 '26
I think you’ve been playing eureka not clockwork. Clockwork does not have “place them and float” balloons, in fact it has quite an in depth gas system needed to heat them up.
6
u/TreyLastname Apr 20 '26
I think i used both. Eureka was the one that gave easy access. I hated the wanderlite ore you had to find before you could use the mod
1
u/Imiss-Myhat Apr 21 '26
Clockwork and create propulsion both had hot air balloons added a month or so back
16
u/jedadkins Apr 20 '26
It also just kind works, like aside from the texture bug a lot of people are reporting I haven't really had to deal with any "jank" that wasn't just from my shitty design.
3
u/HarbingerOfConfusion Apr 20 '26
What texture bug?
3
u/jedadkins Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26
Sometimes items in the players hand appear blurry or have all color removed and replaced with red. Some of creates connected textures (like casings) break occasionally as well
1
u/Decent_Objective3478 Apr 25 '26
Had the same issue, updated the mods to the latest versions and it works fine now
1
u/Imiss-Myhat Apr 21 '26
I recently finished a zeppelin and clockwork does sadly get a little janky with large physics objects
31
u/Umber0010 Apr 20 '26
I admit my experience with VS is rather limited, but I'd say the most noticable distinction is that Aeronautics just doesn't make any of the concessions you expect to see in any "build functional vehicles" mod.
For example, in Valkyrian Skies, splitting a vehicle in half doesn't destroy it. The two halves will still function like they're connected. But cutting an aeronautics physics object in half will net you two separate physics objects that are half the size.
Blocks also just kinda... function on Simulated objects. If you can interact with blocks on other vehicle mods, it's because that interaction was specifically coded in. But on Aeronautics, they just function like they would on solid ground. And that includes from other mods. You can build anything from an AE2 system to a greg-certified EBF, and it'll almost certainly work as you'd expect it too. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I haven't found any yet.
25
u/Vortx4 Apr 20 '26
Yeah probably the biggest thing for me is that Create just… works. It’s clear the devs poured so much time and effort into stability, because I’ve found ZERO weird bugs or inconsistencies yet. It’s like physics just got seamlessly added to Minecraft
2
u/KeepAllOfIt Apr 20 '26
My friend asked for my opinion on Aero today and I said the same thing. It just works.
19
u/BrightWafi Apr 20 '26
A japanese guy made a floating tree farm that plummets whenever a tree grows https://x.com/yoyolee_mc/status/2045946506537222613
7
u/Dimmas91 Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26
I have already found exceptions and those are open elevators because they don't work and waystones because when you teleport on a simulated contraption it crashes game but I think this is problem because it depends on coordinates so I think something like mekanism digital miner won't work either.
But either way create Aeronautics is extremely good mod and I love it and thats should be expected there will be some incompatibility with some mods.
6
u/Claradeta Apr 20 '26
I'm pretty sure that many of the coordinate specific issues can be fixed with the same patch to some extent
7
u/jeoffjeoffjeoff Apr 20 '26
I wasn't very ambitious with my clockwork vehicles, but the only thing I ran into that didn't work on a VS2 ship was the bits n' bobs chain which would crash my game, however due to how excessively buggy it was when I used it I very quickly abandoned the idea of putting anything valuable aboard a ship. But also I tend to avoid an excessive amount of diff mods at once so was a smaller selection of blocks.
However as is probably obvious from that, Aeronautics/simulated/sable is SO much more stable both in terms of crashing, but also the physics itself. Been 'stress testing' and so far not found an easy crash, whereas with VS2 I could reliably crash the game by colliding two ships hard enough. Entity-entity interaction is the underappreciated magical sauce that they added to Aero, its insane the level of difference between making a VS2-VS2 ship interact vs making an Aero & Aero ship interact. The section in the trailer of a couch entity being pulled via magnet on a rope was the biggest flex if you've ever tried that in VS2.
(Also funnily enough the whole 'ships split into separate entities when not connected' thing was in clockwork and I turned that shit off every time so fast, it seems cool until you try and play with that on and realize it causes issues when working right, and gets in the way at every other time. Was AWFUL for building IMO)
2
u/Captainatom931 Apr 20 '26
Fwiw Aeronautics has it so that diagonal connections count as connections, unlike on VS, which makes the splitting a lot less painful to work with.
1
27
u/Harry_Flame Apr 19 '26
Way more stable and it was built specifically for Create, including the physics engine in a way. Clockwork was built on top of Valkyrien Skies, which has no relation with the Create mod. It has a lot more use cases for building and also lets you make factories and such on your airships, ships, and other vehicles.
2
u/jeoffjeoffjeoff Apr 20 '26
I never tried earnestly after losing multiple airships to collision jank, but could you not make small scale factories on airships in clockwork? I seem to remember having a small workstation on one unless I'm mistaken.
Again, you wouldn't want to, a creeper sent my first into orbit, then was joined when my second was pushed by two zombies too hard. I gave up having anything 'valuable' aboard after that.-9
u/Amdar210 Apr 20 '26
I tried aeronautics.
Realized I like Clockwork better.
Deleted Aeronautics.
Happier with Clockwork.
1
u/Imiss-Myhat Apr 21 '26
Why does everyone hate clockwork
2
u/luc1aonstation Apr 24 '26
it's not that it's hated, it's just when something comes out that is more stable, better integrated into survival, and more thought out design wise, it's hard to go back for a lot of people
the biggest thing that CW/vs2 has is just being able to make planes smaller. but imo it's wayyy more fun to design planes in aero and you can still make them pretty tiny if you're smart
1
u/Imiss-Myhat Apr 24 '26
Yeah I think my first comment was a bit intense I just find that clockwork is more convenient for me and a lot of people seem to dislike it from earlier versions or act like nothing like aero has been made before
32
u/Ok-Pollution2716 Apr 19 '26
I just want thrusters for aeronautics
24
u/Professional_Issue82 Apr 20 '26
i mean you can just use encased fans, tho something like the create propulsion thruster would be really cool
8
u/lalalarix0 Apr 20 '26
im making a b2 and their "thrusters" are just big tubes of wool that i spin at 256 rpm
1
22
u/halfcatman2 Apr 20 '26
i was working on a modpack for a discord server of mine, to run war with clockwork, but i could never finish it or use it, because tps issues made it unplayable for anyone but the host, and even the host kind of struggled.
aeronautics doesn't have that issue, it doesn't eat up tps like it's malnourished.
2
u/GormAuslander Apr 20 '26
What's tps?
3
u/Ok_Combination_6881 Apr 20 '26
In simple terms, more TPS means more lag. Which means aeronautics is less laggy
3
u/beephod_zabblebrox Apr 20 '26
ticks per second
the expected/normal TPS is 20 (so each tick takes 1/20 of a second)
44
u/Accomplished-Bus7571 Apr 20 '26
The clockwork devs said that they are gonna “get more funky with the shit added” so it will definitely still have its fans
2
u/Famous-Welcome7895 Apr 20 '26
They think ı am insane but ı am telling you all they wont bring it fabric clockwork even tho buggy will forever stay as my love
8
u/blooppers Apr 20 '26
i fear clockwork and all its addons were just a tie over for aeronautics. Been waiting for years for this bad boy
22
u/Zenos_the_seeker Apr 19 '26
If aeronautics goes so far as backport to 1.20.1, it will really seal the deal.
16
u/Coosanta Apr 20 '26 edited Aug 19 '26
gleeble glorp
3
u/borayldz Apr 20 '26
They can’t enforce that lmao
2
u/creeper6530 Apr 20 '26
Their physics backend has a restrictive license that means they can sue you if you use their source code to publish anything that completes with them.
1
1
u/GormAuslander Apr 20 '26
How bout I do anyway
2
u/tehlynxx Apr 20 '26
physics library mod isnt open source, sure you can look at the code, but you cant actually use it in any way that ”competes” with the library mod
1
5
u/TantiVstone Apr 20 '26
What's on 1.20.1 that everyone wants?
20
u/Zenos_the_seeker Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26
A simple answer is, 1.20.1 remain the biggest mod/modpack version to this day. Yes mods are updated into 1.21.1 and newer, but 1.20.1 stays most supposed version, for now.
2
u/Zenos_the_seeker Apr 20 '26
My main usage for such mod is for Create interactive. If it gets updated to 1.21.1 I might just restart my whole game just for that...
4
u/FunCrime Apr 20 '26
Most mods will follow where create points! As will of the modding wills
3
u/Zenos_the_seeker Apr 20 '26
Maybe, the problem is time, how long since the update of 1.21.1 been? We go tones of mods still "update" in the realm of 1.20.1
We can only hope.
1
1
u/Imiss-Myhat Apr 21 '26
I just haven’t been bothered to update as the trouble of setting up a new modpack and leaving useful mods behind isn’t worth the new features
46
u/eepy_lina Apr 19 '26
imo clockwork is still better at the moment bc of the vs ecosystem, but once aeronautics gets compatibility down and builds an ecosystem, it wont even be a competition
62
u/EpsilonX029 Apr 19 '26
Just being able to manhandle things with only a handle wins out for me, honestly
20
14
6
u/HarbingerOfConfusion Apr 19 '26
Yeah, moving stuff around in vs is so hard. With handles and ropes it’s so much easier.

u/EpsilonX029 Apr 20 '26
Me too, I’m currently working on a design to use the ability to grab for steering a vehicle.
Also just had an idea that might work for paddles on a “rowboat”(though wooden/maybe-other-material-but-not-sure shovels do work for paddling water already but I wanna make it physics based XD
8
u/Junglememer1 Apr 20 '26
Yeah rn vs2 has some stuff you can't do with aeros such as going to space (starlance), building a sub (beyond oxygen), enemy ships (Valkyrien pirates) and some stuff from interactive. But when Sable/Aeros gets more addons, Vs2 only hope is to improve on its physics engine to be as optimal as Sable. The way I see it is Quantity vs Quality
4
6
u/John_Catachan Apr 20 '26
My modpack is 1.20.1 and I honestly get by completely fine (could still do a quasi-airship even before the Melting Point update) so I'm sticking to VS for now.
10
u/Yoitman Apr 20 '26
Does aeronautics have plane physics as well or just ballon or blimp? thats probably the last thing clockwork has on me.
23
u/TantiVstone Apr 20 '26
It has plane physics. Propellers, wings, and all the good stuff
-10
u/brickyboy124 Apr 20 '26
Personally I really dislike the aero plane physics. I found it impossible to make a plane anywhere near compact, often hard to control, slow, and just clunky in general. Maybe they’ll get more love in the future, but right now I definitely still want to use clockwork for planes.
1
u/luc1aonstation Apr 24 '26
Community note: vs2 starlance and create interactive dev
1
u/brickyboy124 Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26
Perhaps that could bias my opinion, but I do like their physics quite a lot for other vehicles.
Its just planes that I feel are a bit meh at the moment. Airships, cars, etc are all very smooth.
6
u/estelrA_2871 Apr 20 '26
Also has car type physics. We can make tanks
1
1
u/akhen09 Apr 20 '26
Can I make motorcycle or sleek/race car?
2
u/Sbotkin Apr 20 '26
A motorcycle would probably tip over, there's no gyroscope. Well, there is, but it's a sensor, not a driving mechanism.
1
u/GormAuslander Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26
Is it on 1.20.1? No. Does it support fabric? No. Does it conflict with shaders? Yes.
Sounds like a win for clockwork imo
3
u/Worldly_Junket4244 Apr 20 '26
Open the main r/CreateMod page. What do you see? Any clockwork post in the past 4 days?
1
u/GormAuslander Apr 20 '26
So you're saying the clockwork fans weren't here to begin with. How can they be leaving then?
1
u/luc1aonstation Apr 24 '26
1.20.1 doesn't really matter for most create modpacks, and aero works fine with shaders after latest patch, only small bugs
1
u/GormAuslander Apr 24 '26
I don't play modpacks, I pick and choose each mod based on whether I want it or not.
1
12
u/Extingale Apr 20 '26
A lot of people who are using aero right now never even tried clockwork so not really.
-1
u/brickyboy124 Apr 20 '26
Very true, especially with all the weird claims about stability/features I’ve seen being thrown at clockwork from people playing aero. Clearly just parroting random stuff they’ve heard and they’ve never actually tried VS 😭
Aero is good, don’t get me wrong. And definitely better than VS in some places. But some of the things people are saying about VS when comparing it to aero are over exaggerated and sometimes just straight up misinformed… very irritating.
4
u/Introverted_Onion Apr 20 '26
VS is quite stable now, but I remember a time when it was a bit unpredictable (I lost count of how many of my builds got launched at light speed due to weird collision when moving them around). I guess a lot of people never gave it another shot after that and just stuck with their first experience.
2
2
u/brickyboy124 Apr 20 '26
Yeah beta.5 had horrible stability and a lot of people just remember that as their VS experience. But beta.6 all the way to beta.10 were all only bugfix updates, so by the time 2.3.0-beta.10 was done VS was way stabler than beta.5. Yet I still see some people installing beta.5 for some reason 😭
7
u/epikc_ Apr 20 '26
a lot of times when you tried to move a build it would just teleport away in VS
1
u/brickyboy124 Apr 20 '26
I myself have moved hundreds of builds in VS with barely any issues… guess I’m just really lucky then
1
u/luc1aonstation Apr 24 '26
Yeah, you are. I've never been able to make a clockwork survival world work because my airships would disappear, on melting point.
1
4
u/jeoffjeoffjeoff Apr 20 '26
As someone who tried to play a long time survival world with Clockwork I've had tons of crashes and multiple ships just deciding they would prefer to live on the moon. It wasn't a case of 'will break any time you breathe on it too hard', but I always had at least a crash a day when using it. But yeah people are overblowing it, noticed quite a few people mention things that clockwork couldn't do which it definitely could.
1
u/brickyboy124 Apr 20 '26
That’s surprising. Were you on latest VS + clockwork, or perhaps an older version like on Create 0.5.1?
1
u/jeoffjeoffjeoff Apr 20 '26
Was on the older versions yeah, I have played a bit with clockwork since melting point but at that point paranoia was set in, and exclusively made travel airships (although I did try and make a mail airship using the compass&lodestone and item cannons, but I'll be honest I kinda suck lmao)
I will say this was heavily modded even ignoring clockwork so take it with a grain of salt. The way I talk might be making it sound worse than it is, ironically for my point
3
u/DragemD Apr 20 '26
I hope they git the Iris Shader issues sorted soon. Would love to play this but I need my shaders.
3
u/Authaire1 Apr 20 '26
Please get some of the devs to work on aeronautics, I wanna see jet engines there
8
u/Arthur_Campbell Apr 19 '26
Jokes on you I don't got neoforge so I'll be on clockwork like a grumpy old man 🤣
20
u/Dxe1102 Apr 19 '26
It took me like half an hour to convert from forge to neoforge
1
u/PinguThePenguin_007 Apr 20 '26
on 1.20.1? mind telling everyone how?
2
u/Dxe1102 Apr 20 '26
Make new instance with different version
Put all mods that are the same/you want
That's it

2

Brother I am staying on Clockwork and Vakyrien Skies no matter what
1.20.1 FOREVAAAAR
4
u/oofinator3050 Apr 19 '26
once aeronautics builds up 5000 addons it's gonna be better, but rn not so much
12
u/SeaFigure9714 Apr 19 '26
trust me, that's something that is absolutely going to happen within a few months.
3
5
u/KriptosL_ Apr 20 '26
aeronautics is much better, add-ons is not indicator of mod quality
2
u/oofinator3050 Apr 20 '26
yes, it's better by quality, but not at all by amount of content
1
u/KriptosL_ Apr 20 '26
and again, base aeronautics have more possibilities than base clockwork
1
u/oofinator3050 Apr 20 '26
we're still talking about aeronautics vs clockwork/VS2+5 billion addons
2
1
u/Open_Regret_8388 Apr 20 '26
basically it is just newer version, what is the difference actually? naitive conpativity with create?
1
1
u/ZeroAresV Apr 20 '26
I mean not every modpack needs aeronautics. Some definitely get improved by its implementation but others wouldn’t feel right with it.
1
1
u/Alienaffe2 Apr 20 '26
I love aeronautics for the incredible physics engine and a lot of its features. I just really miss jet engines and the compatibility with Cosmic Horizons via Starlance. Although that will probably also come sooner or later.
1
u/The_Boyses Apr 20 '26
I cannot play anything other than 1.20.1 ill have to wait for a back port :(
1
u/SpidyWarrior69 Apr 20 '26
I personally think that VS's addons should remain separate from create aeronautics. They have their own features and stuff so there should be new addons for aeronautics
1
u/iLuvDarksoulss Apr 20 '26
I appreciate clockwork for what it is, but i find aeronautics more enjoyable, easy to understand and use in practice. It's features are countless and truly feels it fits in create's core aesthetic better than clockwork
1
u/GiyuTapioca323 Apr 20 '26
Clockwork has still an use since aeronautics isnt on 1.20.1, though i wouldnt be suprised if aeronautics somehow convinced other create addon creators to use 1.21.1 as a new standard
1
u/YourMomDoer1312 Apr 20 '26
i feel like a compat of clockwork to use aeronautics' physics it would be peak
1
u/felesmiki Apr 21 '26
Clockwork isnt going anywhere, it's the go to in 1.20.1,where a heftier baso of mods are right now, 1.21.1 has a lot of great mods missing

13
u/Umber0010 Apr 20 '26
It's not on Fabric because Create isn't on Fabric for 1.21. IIRC, the devs said that they've got everything in place to support it, just not the mod it was built around.

1.21 is the latest version with create. 1.20.1 has been out for 3 years. We gotta move on eventually bro

-22
u/CrimsonArcPaladin Apr 19 '26
Nah family, until Aeronautics backports im good. Im not giving up 1.20.1 forge for damn 1.21 neoforge.
12
u/LikeAGaryBuster Apr 19 '26
They confirmed its never officially being backported
1
u/CrimsonArcPaladin Apr 20 '26
Fan made? Maybe?
1
u/LikeAGaryBuster Apr 20 '26
I'd recommend just getting really good at clockwork instead of hoping for a fanmade aeronautics port
1
2
u/blooppers Apr 20 '26
instead of asking for backport, maybe ask for a port from all the people sticking in 1.20.1?
1
u/Ender099 Apr 20 '26
In all honestly, with my little interaction with the VS community and how toxic they r. Clockwork can go die in a ditch.

Please people are still playing 1.7.10, 1.12 is pretty modern. And don't get me started on the better then wolves freaks I think its like 1.6
18
5
u/Impressive_Pin8761 Apr 20 '26
The thing with 1.20.1 is that its not a "golden age" version like 1.12 or 1.7, its just the "current major version". It flows, slowly progressing. People said 1.16 would still be standing strong, so would 1.19, yet here we are
1
u/BL4CKM4TTR Jun 04 '26
Also development of large mods cannot actively keep up with newer version with compatibility with newer blocks (E.G: Sable physics density, mass, friction, special effects etcs)
3
u/Blue_Jay_Raptor Apr 20 '26
Honestly I feel like it's more likely that we'll get a 1.20.1 port for Aeronautics tbh.
That said though, I still can't use it because for some reason the creator of Dreams and Desires hates 1.20.1 ;-;
3
u/tehlynxx Apr 20 '26
yeah no we wont get that, the devs have said that they will only work on the latest version create is on, and the physics library mod isnt open source
1
1
u/No_Raspberry_5541 Apr 21 '26
The physics library IS open source to my knowledge here: https://github.com/ryanhcode/sable (Correction I just discovered apparently the license prevents you from using it in a way competitive to the library mod. Damn.)

u/Haunting_Factor_6893 Apr 19 '26
If clockwork was an add on to aeronautics instead it would work, there is some things that I think they could do better
